Justin Smith was born Justin David Smith in the small town of
Marshfield, Wisconsin to Jeff and Tracy Smith. His dad is the founder,
CEO, and President of a building service contracting firm. His mom is a
home worker and is on the board of directors of an unmarried mothers'
shelter. He has one older brother, Christopher whom he greatly admires.
Justin graduated from Spencer High School in 2002 and took a shot at a
two year college with a Major in Criminal Justice and a Minor in
Psychology. After his first semester, and thinking of his future
family, Justin decided that he didn't want to be on the SWAT Team after
all. He changed his Major to Music Performance and played in the
College Jazz Band as first chair. That's when he started to think about
acting. He heard some rumored auditions that were taking place for the
college play. He auditioned without any prior training, and much to his
dismay, he didn't get the part. His anger and rage caused by the
cruelty of the casting director only fueled his inner desire to become
a successful actor. During this last semester he met aspiring artist
Jessica Anderson. They continued to date even though Jessica had moved
to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to go to the University there, and in the
summer they got engaged. He then got accepted to a four year college,
the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. There he maintained his Music
Performance Major but his dreams started to change and become more
clear. The second semester of his second year in college, he changed
his Major to Theatre Performance. And during this time, his
relationship with Jessica started to dwindle. Although it was primarily
prompted by Jessica to end the relationship, Justin was forced to break
it off. After this emotional breakdown, Justin knew what he had to do.
He had to get away and with nothing holding him back. So he applied to
one of the most prestigious film schools, The New York Film Academy at
the Los Angeles location, and got accepted. He and his brother
Christopher took a U-Haul and moved Justin out to Studio City. After
living in Los Angeles for two days, Justin quickly got a job offer to
be a production assistant on the visual affects stage for the new Mike
Judge film Idiocracy starring Luke Wilson. He then got hand picked by
Mike Judge to be one of Luke Wilson's "Rodies" in the film. Throughout
his schooling Justin kept up his naturalistic people skills and started
getting more and more contacts in the industry. And at the beginning of
that year, he started dating Sonja Long, a third grade school teacher
in Arkansas and commuted frequently from Los Angeles to Arkansas in
between school and independent films. After his schooling was finished,
Justin got his first Studio Feature Film supporting role in Creepshow 3
as the heroine addict Ronald. Since then, Justin has appeared in over
30 independent films, and when he's not acting, he works as a
Lumberjack and tours with his band Fragile, out of Wisconsin. Justin
and Sonja tied the knot on November 5, 2006.
