The hotel, which opened in 1909, will now be home to the Stanley Film Center, an ongoing horror exhibit curated by Blumhouse in collaboration with the Colorado Office of Film, Television and Media.

The suspect in Saturday’s mass shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs had had a previous violent incident, leaving one state politician to question whether the state’s “red flag” laws had been properly implemented.
Colorado law allows courts to, in some circumstances, seize weapons from an individual if the person is deemed to be a safety risk to themselves or others. The suspect in the shooting, Aderson Lee Aldrich, had a notable encounter with police last year. According to a bulletin released by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office,...

A 22-year-old gunman opened fire in a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, killing five people and leaving more than two dozen injured before he was subdued by “heroic” patrons and arrested by police who were on the scene within minutes, authorities said Sunday.
At a news conference Sunday morning, Colorado Springs Police Chief Adrian Vasquez identified the suspect as 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich, who was being treated for injuries.
Describing the nightclub, Club Q, as “a safe haven for our LGBTQ citizens,” Vasquez said the suspect began shooting at patrons immediately after he entered the venue. As he moved further inside, at least two people confronted and fought him, stopping him from firing. The suspect used a “long rifle” and authorities found at least one other firearm when they arrived at the scene, according to the police chief.

At least five people were killed and 25 injured in a deadly mass shooting Saturday night at an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado that has been called a “hate attack.”
Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Lt. Pamela Castro said in an early Sunday morning press conference that police received calls about an active shooting at Club Q at 11:57 p.m. local time. Upon arriving at the scene, officers immediately located the suspect — who the club said was “subdued” by customers — and transported them to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

The White House was said to be “giddy and gleeful” in the wake of Election Night’s surprisingly strong showing by Democrats. But the administration has nothing on the mood of Bill Maher, as exhibited on Friday’s Real Time.
A week after a downbeat Maher was ready to throw shovels of dirt on America while anticipating its demise at Republican hands, the comedian returned in a jubliant mood. “I haven’t had a text from Joe Biden in three days,” he said in his warmup. “I feel like he’s ghosted me.”
Maher seemed amazed at the turn in fortunes, noting that Pennsylvania may have been the biggest surprise. That’s the state where the polished Dr. Mehmet Oz “lost to a guy who dresses like the airline lost his luggage.”
Noting that ex-President Donald Trump is suffering a backlash, with many now touting the 2024 prospects of Florida Gov.

The second night of the South Park 25th anniversary shows at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado Wednesday night provided plenty of surprises — even, in some cases, for the key figures on stage, not all of whom had been prepped ahead of time about a crowd-rousing musical cameo from two members of Rush.
With an unprecedented number of Kyle, Cartman, Stan and Kenny costumes sprinkled throughout the sold-out crowd, the concert got underway with the co-creators of the Comedy Central animated series (and proud Colorado natives), Trey Parker and Matt Stone, performed a rendition of “Uncle Fucka” that magically brought tears to some of those watching. Despite the expectedly crass lyrics, the song felt more like a ballad, with Parker at the grand piano singing his heart out and Stone on the mic shouting the word “fucka” with the passion of Pavarotti.

California Governor Gavin Newsom headlined a fundraiser on Friday at the Los Angeles home of Ellen Bronfman Hauptman and Andrew Hauptman that raised more than 1 million to back the Democratic Governors Association, according to organizers.
Others on the bill along with Newsom were Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina, Governor Kathy Hochul of New York, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, Governor Jared Polis of Colorado, Governor Steve Sisolak of Nevada and Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, organizers said. All except Cooper are campaigning for reelection this year.
About 40 guests attended the event. Colorado is only one of three states that allows abortion at any phase of pregnancy. It borders five states where the fate of abortion access remains uncertain, if not outright banned. In anticipation of the reversal of Roe v. Wade, the Colorado legislature enshrined the right to abortion access in its laws back in April. “State leadership matters more than ever,” Gov. Jared Polis (D) said when the Supreme Court overturned nearly 50 years of federal abortion rights with its decision in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health on Friday. “We...

Politico reported late today on what it says is a draft Supreme Court opinion that is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, giving states the power to ban abortion. It is reportedly based on a preliminary vote by the court on a Mississippi case before it.
Rep. Alexandra Ocasio Cortez was among the first to respond, retweeting a post detailing how the opinion could impact gay rights and writing, “As we’ve warned, Scotus isn’t just coming for abortion – they’re coming for the right to privacy Roe rests on, which includes gay marriage + civil rights.”
Senator Bernie Sanders said in a post, “Congress must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land in this country Now.”
Actress Amber Tamblyn wrote, “Tonight our highest court declared war on more than half of its citizens— women and birthing people everywhere.”

Updated, April 22: Florida governor Ron DeSantis has signed legislation that removes the special district covering Walt Disney World from the Walt Disney Company. The move is expected to have a financial impact on Florida residents to compensate for the district’s debts. At a lectern, DeSantis claimed that Disney aimed to “inject sexuality into the programming that is provided to our youngest kids.”
“I’m just not comfortable having that type of agenda get special treatment in my state,” he said. “I just can’t do it.”
He added, “We have everything thought out. Don’t let anyone tell you that Disney is going to get a tax cut out of this. They are going to pay more taxes as a result of this.”

If you’ve watched any of the 24 seasons that exist of “South Park,” you’ve probably heard the fourth graders talk about Casa Bonita. In fact, the entirety of the Season 11 episode, appropriately titled “Casa Bonita,” focuses on the kids and their connection to the Denver restaurant.
Despite its popularity on the show, Casa Bonita has been going through hard times because of the pandemic, but “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are hoping to make things a little easier. On Friday, Stone and Parker told Colorado governor Jared Polis that they have tentatively agreed to purchase Casa Bonita, which had entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The pair haven’t said what they plan to do with the establishment but did reveal to Polis they plan to sink some money into the location and improve upon it. “I think everyone knows the potential of what that place can be and we certainly do,...

Someone tell Eric Cartman that Casa Bonita, aka “Mexican Disneyland,” has been saved from the clutches of bankruptcy. Amid fears that the real eatery would be closed for good, “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have struck a deal to purchase the landmark Colorado restaurant depicted on the show.
The Colorado natives met with Gov. Jared Polis Friday to break the good news.
“As of about an hour ago, pending bankruptcy proceedings, we’ve come to an agreement with the owner and we’ve bought it,” Stone told Polis during the livestream held by the governor’s office.
Casa Bonita was a formative piece of both mens’ childhoods (and their TV show). In July, they told The Hollywood Reporter that they’d been dreaming of purchasing the restaurant for years but felt especially motivated once it shuttered due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“We want to buy Casa Bonita and treat it right.

The official number, which is just over $1.02 billion, comprises revenue from marijuana taxes, licenses and fees. Along with the overall revenue numbers, the Cdor said that marijuana sales to date have exceeded $6.56 billion.
“Today’s report continues to show that Colorado’s cannabis industry is thriving, but we can’t rest on our laurels. We can and we must do better in the face of increased national competition.

Liev Schreiber used his “Saturday Night Live” monologue time to get political — but not in a partisan way.
Hosting the Nov. 10 episode of the NBC late night sketch comedy series, the “Ray Donovan” star pointed out that being funny “has just never really been my thing” and said attempts were mostly relegated to “trying to talk to girls in college.” So rather than try to make too many jokes, he decided to talk about the midterm election.
“Before we ramp up the rhetoric again, can we just revel in the fact that over 100 million people got off their butts and voted?” he said, clapping. “That’s the highest voter turnout for a midterm election in the history of this country.
“So regardless of what side of the aisle you sit on — whether you feel like you won or you lost — what that number says to me is that we showed up.

“I want to look and see who’s running, but I’m glad that he potentially will be a candidate, because he seems like a good guy and great candidate,” the Oscar winner told told Variety on Wednesday at the Los Angeles premiere of “They Fight,” a film he co-produced with Freedom Road.
Common said he feels “positive about some of the progress that was made” after the midterm elections earlier this week. ”I definitely wish it more. I wish Andrew Gillum and Stacey Abrams had won, because I really felt they represent the progress of America.”
He added, “Overall, it’s beautiful to see the progress that was being made in America. The first openly gay governor [Colorado’s Jared Polis]; more women in the House.

On Tuesday, November 6th — less than three months after his arrest on first-degree murder charges — Christopher Watts, 33, suddenly agreed to plead guilty to killing his pregnant wife, Shan’ann Watts, 34, and the couple’s two daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3. Members of both of the defendant and the victims’ families were in the Colorado courtroom as Watts, wearing a bulletproof vest, pleaded guilty to nine criminal counts — including murder, the unlawful termination of a pregnancy and tampering with a dead body — as part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid a possible death penalty sentence,...

Jared Polis won the Colorado governor’s race, becoming the first openly gay person to be elected governor in America.
Polis, a five-term congressman, faced Republican Walker Stapleton, the state treasurer, in the race. Incumbent governor, Democrat John Hickenlooper, was prevented by term limits from running again.
After announcement of the win, Hickenlooper tweeted: “Over the last few weeks, Coloradans cast their votes in favor of a bright & prosperous future & tonight we elected @PolisForCO as the new governor of this great state. Congrats to all who stood up, showed up & spoke up.

Over the past few years, journalists, pundits and think-tankers have touched down at Denver International Airport with hopes that the Centennial State can be their crystal ball. Their lofty ponderings range from wondering if Colorado congeniality can straight up save the entire country, to coronating it with premier bellwether status and, as long as they’re here, seeing if the weed is any good. Like Ohio in the 2000s, Colorado maintains a certain amount of swing state swagger. But is the state still as purple as all these people want you to believe?...

Even as the majority of Americans have embraced legalizing marijuana either for medicinal or recreational use, Republican leaders on Capitol Hill have remained staunch opponents of weed. Now led by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, they’ve done everything they can to maintain the nation’s dysfunctional marijuana regulatory system, one that’s pitted the majority of states against the federal government’s continued prohibition of pot. On Thursday, however, things changed at the Capitol, as the powerful House Judiciary Committee unanimously took a historic, bipartisan step to unwind a small,...

The models for the Archer characters are just regular people that the creators knew, and handed over photos to animators to get the look. Find out who they are here, but one description struck me. "As someone who was in a room in the same hospital as Spencer and at the same time, and who is having his own awful and painful heath problems, it is hard to fall into denial about what we still dont know and have yet to find out, to save our own lives, the lives of Spencer, and yes, Larry too. Last week, Colorado and Washington became the first states to legalize marijuana for recreational use -- a landmark vote that is without historical precedent and one that dealt a huge blow to a decades-long drug war in the United States.
So, how did it happen? Well, it's certainly due to changing popular attitudes about the drug as well as the hard work of many people at multiple marijuana reform groups across the nation -- including one person in particular who was at the forefront of Colorado's marijuana legalization effort for years: Mason Tvert, co-director of the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, the group behind Colorado's marijuana legalizing Amendment 64.
On Friday, Tvert dropped by "Real Time with Bill Maher" to discuss the big victory for marijuana.
"You had a big victory, how do you feel, did you get high?" Vocal marijuana reform supporter Bill Maher said to Tvert who responded with,...
