Update: NBC also has picked up to pilot Warner Bros TV-produced drama The Mysteries Of Laura, from writer Jeff Rake, Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. The project, based on the popular Spanish series Los Misterios De Laura, had a production commitment and I hear has a cast-contingent order. It follows the life and relationships of a female homicide detective who can handle murderous criminals — but not her evil twins. Wbtv, where Berlanti Productions is based, is producing. Rake wrote the adaptation and will executive produce with Berlanti and Kaplan, while Berlanti Productions’ Melissa Kellner Berman co-execute produces. Originally set to have a back-door pilot in episode 20 of Arrow, the character of Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is now set to make his costumed debut in his own pilot. Of course, that's provided Gustin impresses when he debuts tonight on Arrow (8Pm Pst/Est on The CW). David Rapport Casting has handled casting duties on Arrow and The Tomorrow People so it should come as no surprise that they're doing the same for The Flash. Iris West should be no surprise as she's Barry's long-time love interest but it looks like Iris' father/brother (?) (Detective West) will play a prominent role as well, at least in the pilot. Exclusive: There has been a change in the CW‘s plans for The Flash. Originally, the character, played by Grant Gustin, was supposed to appear in three episodes of Arrow this season — No. 8, No. 9 and No. 20, the last one serving as a backdoor pilot directed by David Nutter. Episodes 8 and 9, in which the superhero is introduced only as his alter ego Barry Allen, have already been shot. But now the CW has opted to film a traditional stand-alone Flash pilot instead of doing a backdoor pilot as Arrow‘s Episode 20. With Episodes 8 and 9 serving as an origin story, the plan was for The Flash character to make his debut — red costume and all — in Arrow‘s Episode 20. He will now do it in the pilot. The creative team remains the same, with Arrow co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and series scribe Geoff Johns writing the pilot and Nutter, who helmed the pilot for Arrow,...

We caught wind of three new series in the works at The CW which, while not strictly horror-based, should still be of interest to genre fans. Read on for the details!
First up is an original project called "Sick" from Trey Callaway (co-executive producer of "CSI: NY") and Sean Hood (Halloween: Resurrection, Fear Itself, and "Masters of Horror"), who wrote the script and sold it directly to The CW. "Sick" is set in a world where youths are quarantined after a mysterious virus makes adults allergic to teenagers. Described as a cross between Contagion and The Hunger Games, it centers on a band of teens who escape from their containment units and go on the run from authorities.

We’ll have to wait until October 10 to see the premiere of the hotly anticipated series Arrow on The CW, so we’re always happy to get tidbits of information on what’s to come while we drum our fingers impatiently. Today we’re naming names – a villain and the lovely man who will portray him.
We now know that we’ll be seeing the evil Deadshot in episode 3, and he will be played by Michael Rowe. Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim told Green Arrow TV:
The episode – I think it’s pretty amazing … Especially as a third episode, because it already takes the existing paradigm and plays with it. And also, just the nature of a character like Deadshot, who is Oliver’s equal in every, way, shape or form, and maybe even his superior in certain ways… it just creates the opportunity for amazing action very, very early on in the series.

ABC Studios senior vp drama Morgan Wandell has departed his post to run Greg Berlanti's studio-based production company.
Wandell's No. 2, vp Channing Dungey, has been upped to senior vp and will take over the drama department.
Wandell inked a multiyear deal with Berlanti Television to oversee its scripted, reality and Internet programming under the eight-figure new deal Berlanti recently inked with the studio.
Berlanti TV's programming executive Melissa Berman is staying on and continues as co-producer of "Dirty Sexy Money" and "Eli Stone," two of Berlanti TV's three ABC/ABC Studios series on the air, along with "Brothers & Sisters."
Wandell oversaw the development of all three at the studio, working with Berlanti.
"It is going to be a joy to go from building great series to building a great company together," Berlanti said.
Under Wandell, ABC Studios' drama portfolio expanded rapidly to 17 series on six networks and in first-run syndication. After a brief stint at the studio in the late '90s, Wandell returned as head of drama in 2004, following a four-year tenure as resident of programming at teen TV news network Channel One.
A four-year veteran of the ABC Studios drama team, Dungey has supervised such series as "Grey's Anatomy," "Criminal Minds," "Reaper," "Army Wives" and "Private Practice" and has worked closely with such studio-based producers as Mark Gordon, Shonda Rhimes, David Hoberman and Matt Gross.
"Channing understands how to encourage and nurture creative voices and visions," ABC Studios president Mark Pedowitz said.

Greg Berlanti is going solo. The Everwood creator has parted ways with producing partner Mickey Liddell and has renamed his Touchstone TV-based company Berlanti Television. Berlanti has tapped Melissa Berman as president of production at Berlanti TV, which already has set up two projects at ABC. Eli Stone, a high-concept legal drama, has received a pilot order from the network, and an untitled project from writer Craig Wright has been given a script commitment. The split between Berlanti and Liddell, who worked together since Liddell produced Berlanti's 2000 indie feature The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy, is said to be amicable.
