Spike Lee is directing a new Oldboy with Josh Brolin, and now the Weinsteins are getting in on the South Korean action. Their Dimension Films has just picked up the rights to The Man From Nowhere, and given Shawn Christensen the translation job.The original film was written and directed by Lee Jeong-beom in 2010. It starred Won Bin as a former black-ops man for the Korean government, now living a hermetic existence as the owner of a pawn shop. He's forced to break out his martial arts bad-assery when he unwittingly takes delivery of a camera bag containing drugs, and attracts the attention of its original traffickers. They're not nice guys - they're also into slavery and organ harvesting - and when they take Bin's next door neighbour and her daughter as insurance, it's go time...The Man From Nowhere was Korea's highest grossing film in its year of release...

The Hollywood Reporter announced that up and coming director Trevor Cawood is in negotiations to helm this project. Warner Bros. has had this script, written by Stellastar front man Shawn Christensen, for a while now. Here is the synopsis that THR gave:
The story centers on a professor who engages in a game of cat and mouse with a corrupt detective after he's told his dead wife of five years might still be alive. He uncovers the existence of a secret organization responsible for faking her death but suffers the consequences of that knowledge
Cawood is not a familiar name to the masses but he has been in the industry for a little bit. Here is what he has been up to:
Cawood made a name for himself with his shorts and commercials. One that caught Hollywood’s eye was an arty and unique film titled Terminus and featured a...

Warner Bros. has selected Trevor Cawood to direct their long-in-development sci-fi project, Karma Coalition . First purchased by the studio in 2008 , the script arrives from Shawn Christensen, better known as the lead singer of the rock band stellastar* (named for Caroline Munro's character in the cult 1978 film Starcrash ). The story involves a fugitive racing against the end of the world to prove his innocence and find out who was responsible for the death of his wife. Dan Lin ( Sherlock Holmes , Terminator Salvation ) is producing and, with Cawood aboard, the project is likely to gain some speed. Cawood will make his feature debut with the project, but has previously worked in commercials and shorts. You can watch his previous sci-fi short, "Terminus," in the...

Back in May Bloody-Disgusting was invited to the first-ever screening of director Jack Heller's independently-produced mystery/thriller Enter Nowhere, about three strangers who find themselves stranded at a remote cabin in the middle of the woods and must learn who or what has brought them together and for what purpose. The film, which is akin to mind-bending genre fare like Lost and The Twilight Zone, was penned by writing team Shawn Christensen and Jason Dolan and stars Scott Eastwood (Clint's son!), Katherine Waterston and Sara Paxton (The Last House on the Left). Though the film is currently still in search of distribution at this time, I recently chatted with Heller already a successful Hollywood producer and manager who made his directorial debut with the project to pick his brain on how the production came together...

Organisers of the Tribeca Film Festival have announced this year's line-up of 60 short films, 22 of which are world premieres.
The international festival was founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, producer Jane Rosenthal and real-estate investor Craig Hatkoff to help revitalise Manhattan's Tribeca neighbourhood following the 9/11 terrorist attack.
The 2011 event - presented by founding sponsor American Express - will run from April 20 to May 1. The 60 shorts represent 21 countries, including the UK, and feature stars from around the globe.
In a new development this year, the recipient of the Tff Best Narrative Short award will qualify for consideration in the Short Films category of the Oscars without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with Academy rules.
The short film program, drawn from 2,862 submissions, will be presented in eight thematic programs, which are detailed below.
There is a broad spectrum of styles and storytelling, from zombies taking over Manhattan to the humanitarian effort in Haiti.

The Black List started in 2005 when Franklin Leonard was working for Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company. Leonard was getting drowned in sub-par spec scripts, so he sent an e-mail out to his industry contacts looking for the best unproduced scripts out there. The 2005 Black List and the 2006 Black List were undeniably important in getting a fresh batch of writers on the Hollywood scene. Since then, too many people know about the party and the studio system has learned that people are paying attention. That means that increasingly, scripts have been lobbied into the Black List. [Note: I have no actual evidence I would be able to share, disclose or show you that proves this, so file that assertion under: "Things Dave thinks and gets to write because he's squatted on that soapbox long enough to get squatter's rights."]This year: the majority of the Black List Top Ten has already been sold or optioned. I'm not sure how helpful it is to make a list of good In Production scripts. Certainly less helpful to writer's churning out material that keeps getting passed over (or people who have Not starred in Prison Break...

The Black List has been released. The annual list is compiled with a poll of 300 (up from last year's 250) development executives and high-level assistants, and contains a ranking of the hot screenplays making the rounds in Hollywoodland, which were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2010 and will not be released in theaters during this calendar year. Basically, the black list contains the hottest projects in Hollywood that you haven't heard of yet. Note: The headline is a slightly inaccurate, because a lot of these screenplays have already been acquired (six of the top ten listed), a bunch are in production now, and some have even finished production. One of this year's top ten screenplays, J.C. Chandor's Margin Call, about the last 24 hours at now-defunct investment bank Lehman Brothers is already in the can and set to premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival with Chandor at the helm...

Described as “Lost” in a forest by THR, the new supernatural movie “Enter Nowhere” will find Sam Waterston’s daughter Katherine (“The Babysitters”) and Clint Eastwood’s son Scott (“Invictus”) playing strangers who, along with two others who find themselves stranded inside a mysterious forest. The strangers seek shelter in a cabin and must work together to survive, but being that the film is described as a “supernatural thriller”, it probably means there are more than just things going bump in the woods around them. According to "Entertainment Weekly," Taylor Lautner who plays Jacob Black in the very popular Twilight,New Moon, and Eclipse movies has just landed yet another role in what is tapped to be a Bourne Identity-type movie called, "Abduction." Taylor Lautner just celebrated his 18th birthday with this new movie role, and about a couple $million for this flick, I'm sure, because he has about five movie studios fighting or bidding over the rights to script for this film. The script was written by Shawn Christensen, and it made its rounds last night to all the interested movie studios.
