- Semeli was born and raised in Munich. She finished high school in Cyprus, before she left for London where she trained for four years as an actress and director at the Acedemy of the Science of Acting and Directing.
Her father Nicolas Economou was a concert pianist and film composer who was from Cyprus but left for Moscow at the age of 11. Her mother is American.

- The main difference between acting and directing is that as a director you have to create and re-live every single character's life. As an actor you're only responsible for your own character. I guess that's why I love directing. It helps me understand human nature on a much wider scope and prevents me from being self centered.
