David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s The X Files is widely regarded as one of the best-ever shows created and aired on Fox. Even today, after around half a decade since its eleventh and final season aired in 2018, the 218-episode-long mystery/thriller drama series doesn’t cease to amuse its viewers with all the incredible storylines the writers and showrunners curated.

But not many know that there was once a time when all of that drama, mystery, and sci-fi thrills almost didn’t happen. This was because the media broadcasting company wasn’t originally looking for such genre projects at the time, and thus, it almost ended up making a disastrous call for this masterpiece series that has been loved by 93% of Google users to date.

Chris Carter's 1993 TV series "The X-Files" is an undeniable staple of sci-fi television. However, it's also incredibly dated. It came out in the early years of the Bill Clinton administration, a few years after the end of the Cold War, right when Gen-x was growing up and America was experiencing something of an identity crisis. Without a war or a Great Depression to unite us, the sociological arguments went, America was culturally adrift. Having no enemies abroad to rally against, Americans began to look inward for enemies, sussing out where our violent impulses went. We found our own government to be suspect, and grew increasingly paranoid that a lot of dark information was being hidden from us.
In "The X-Files," '90s freeform paranoia manifested -- perhaps curiously -- as shadowy government conspiracies to cover up the existence of aliens, UFOs, and other unexplained paranormal phenomena. Only oddball FBI...

Freeform is developing a “Dante’s Inferno” drama series, a reimagining of the 14th century epic poem set in present-day Los Angeles, a spokesperson for the network told TheWrap.
The series is described as following Grace Dante, “who thought her life sucked. Between parenting her drug addict mother and her troubled brother, our 20-something hero has had to give up all her dreams. Then one day everything changes and her dreams start magically coming true, school, career, love… but the godfather of all this good fortune is the Devil himself. And to outwit him, she’ll have to journey through Dante’s Inferno.”
Dante Alighieri’s narrative poem “The Divine Comedy,” widely considered one of the greatest works of Western literature, is told in three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso, or Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. The poem tells the soul’s journey towards God in the afterlife, told from a medieval world view.

Exclusive: The Devil Wears Prada helmer David Frankel has signed on to direct NBC’s comedy pilot Girlfriend In a Coma, which had been dormant for the past four months. The network, writer Liz Brixius and producers, Wolf Films and Universal TV, made the decision to push the project in late March, shortly after the exit of Christina Ricci, originally cast as the lead. The pilot, whose script had been a favorite of NBC brass, is now headed to production again with Frankel on board, joined by original cast members Miranda Cosgrove and Daniel Stern whose options were extended. Based on Douglas Coupland’s book, Girlfriend In A Coma centers on Karen, a woman who was in a coma for many years and unexpectedly wakes up to find she has a 17-year-old daughter, Evie (Cosgrove). Stern plays Karen’s dad who has been raising Evie with his wife. Dick Wolf,...

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.
The Peacock did not have a good year. Only one of its new shows, "Revolution," was a true hit. Another, "Chicago Fire," got renewed by the skin of its teeth whilst the fate of a third, "Hannibal," remains uncertain.
None of last year's new comedies survived, neither did two mid-season dramas, which leaves the network with some big holes to fill. Three dramas and three comedies will debut in the Fall ahead of three more dramas and two comedies mid-season. Two further dramas and a comedy are presently unscheduled.
Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't become series including the high-profile Charlize Theron-produced drama about the Hatfields and McCoys, the Bruckheimer-produced...

The new fall season is closer than you think, and NBC has released their full schedule. Apart from reality favorites The Biggest Loser and The Voice, they are mixing things up quite a bit.
Take a look at a complete preview of the shows coming your way, and mark your calendars. It looks good for NBC this year, and while I’m not sure all of these look like winners, I think you’ll find at least a couple that you’re really going to like.

Question: Why is the cast of NBC’s Parenthood jumping for joy? Answer: Well, it probably has a little something to do with today’s announcement on behalf of NBC by President of Entertainment Jennifer Salke that the best show you’re probably not watching has just been renewed for a full twenty-two episode season in 2013-14. What’s more, the cast of Parenthood isn’t the only one who has reason to be celebrating today. For joining one of the small screen’s best dramas is Revolution, Chicago Fire, Grimm and Law & Order: Svu. Full press release of which can be found after the jump.

NBC has tacked another hour on to the freshman season of drama Chicago Fire, bringing its order to 24 episodes. The network first ordered one extra episode last week, followed by another episode pickup yesterday. After a slow start, Chicago Fire has found its groove, enjoying a ratings surge in January when its three originals posted the series’ three biggest overall audiences to date and three of its four highest adult 18-49 ratings. The show has now topped its premiere 1.9 demo rating four times and its premiere viewership (6.6 million) six times, including with the Jan. 2 show which posted Live+Same Day series highs of a 2.4/7 in 18-49 and 8.5 million viewers overall. The order upgrades for Chicago Fire come amidst disappointing premiere ratings for NBC’s new midseason drama Do No Harm (0.9 in 18-49) and the second season of Smash (1.2). Chicago Fire is exec produced by Dick Wolf, Danielle Gelber, Michael Brandt,...

Now that NBC's 2012-2013 lineup and schedule is set, the network has released trailers for some of its upcoming new series.
From a (presumably failed) adoption attempt in the trailer for Ryan Murphy's "The New Normal" to Matthew Perry's character's effort to have everyone in his grief group to share their sob stories in five seconds in "Go On," each trailer hints that the 2012-2013 will be a unique season for NBC.
Check out the trailers for "Go On," "The New Normal" and more below:
"Go On" Misery loves company. Unless you're sportscaster Ryan King (Matthew Perry) who thinks misery should just be left alone. After taking some time off, Ryan –- who recently lost his wife in a car accident -– is now ready to get back to work. In advance of their official Upfronts presentation on Monday, NBC jumped the gun to be the first network to unveil their complete 2012-2013 schedule on Sunday.
The biggest story? "Community" is moving to Fridays, along with sophomore sitcom "Whitney," which will kick off that rather random new night of programming.
"Smash" is also being bumped -- all the way to midseason -- to make way for the premiere of "Revolution," a new thriller from J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke, which will air after "The Voice" on Mondays. And yes, that means "The Voice" will be back in the fall, giving it two cycles a year, as predicted.
NBC will also try their hand at airing comedies on Tuesday nights, with Matthew Perry's "Go On" and Ryan Murphy's "Th New Normal" getting paired together.
Also being saved for midseason are new sitcoms "Save Me," "1600 Penn" and "Next Caller," and new dramas "Do No Harm,...

Chicago – NBC revealed their Fall schedule today and there were multiple surprises including comedies moving to Tuesday and Friday nights (we were wondering where all of the sitcoms would go) and a Fall cycle of the hit singing show “The Voice.” Other major news is that “Smash” is being held for mid-season. The network also revealed that six new shows — two dramas, four comedies — will premiere in the Fall.
The big news for comedy fans is that Thursdays have been tinkered with again as the final season of “30 Rock” will kick off the night at 7pm Cst, followed by “Up All Night,” “The Office,” and “Parks and Recreation.” In the 9pm Cst timeslot that was the kiss of death last season with “Prime Suspect,” “The Firm,” and “Awake,” the network has given up and will air the low-rated but inexpensive “Rock Center with Brian Williams.”

When there’s two rival Beauty and the Beast projects, you gotta think a trend is forming. Following the success of ABC’s top-rated new drama Once Upon a Time (and to a lesser extent, NBC’s Grimm), broadcast-network pilot season seems to have a greater than usual number of projects with fantasy or supernatural elements — along with a ton of shows about federal agents, everyday cops, doctors, conspiracies, and cults. The magical-realism trend is partly a continuation from last year’s pilot season. This time around, however, there seems to be fewer head-turning TV reboots ideas in the mix...
