Demi Lovato and her fans were moved to tears on Friday night as two of her friends got engaged onstage at her concert at The Forum in Inglewood, California. She invited American Idol alum Rayvon Owen onstage. His partner and Lovato's other friend Shane Bitney Crone then surprised him by entering via a trapdoor onstage. Crone then took Owen's hand, professed his love for him, got down on one knee and proposed as the singer watched from the side. Owen said yes and the men kissed as the audience cheered. "Yay!" Lovato said, running to hug them both. "What some of you don't know is that these are two of my really close friends and I've gotten to watch Shane go...

Like millions of Americans, Lance Bass was compelled to donate blood to help some of the 527 concertgoers injured during Sunday’s deadly Las Vegas shooting.
But the Federal Drug Administration prevents men who’ve had sex with other men within the past 12 months from donating blood — preventing Bass, who is openly gay and married to husband Michael Turchin, from donating.
“How is it Still illegal for gays to donate blood??!!” the 38-year-old singer wrote on Twitter Monday night. “I want to donate and I’m not allowed. ”

Lee Daniels, the only ever gay black nominee for the Best Director Oscar, was the honoree at this year’s Outfest Legacy Awards, and because planned presenter Gabourey Sidibe (the Oscar-nominated star of Daniels’ Precious) couldn’t leave the set of American Horror Story: Coven fast enough to get to the awards, she submitted a video tribute. A replacement star ended up singing Daniels’ praises in person: Jane Fonda.
And not just any Jane Fonda: This was Jane Fonda in a zebra-print jumpsuit and boots. The room exploded. Fonda talked about encountering homophobia when living in the American South for 20 years and how it inspired her hopes for Lgbt acceptance. Afterward she discussed the vitality of Daniels’ work as a director.
“I think of him as an actress’ director — now, that’s not politically correct, we say “female actors” now — just ask Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, Gabourey Sidibe, Halle Berry,...

"Bridegroom," is a powerful documentary that spawned out of a heartbreaking viral video, and now Indiewire has gotten a hold of an exclusive clip. Virgil Films released it onto DVD and iTunes this past Tuesday. From the synopsis: On May 7, 2011, a young man named Shane Bitney Crone tragically lost the love of his life, Tom Bridegroom, to an accident. Because they were't married (and despite the partners having been together for six years), Shane had no legal claim to Tom after he died. Tom's family banned Shane from the funeral, he was unable to say goodbye to his love, and he received no survivor benefits. On May 7, 2012, the first anniversary of Tom's death, Shane posted a video on YouTube titled "It Could Happen to You." He created it to honor his partner and show the world what can happen when two people committed to each other are legally barred from...

The sudden death of Shane Bitney Crone‘s life partner Tom Bridegroom was the catalyst for the Youtube video “It Could Happen to You“. Crone created it to honor his partner and show the world what can happen when two people committed to each other are legally barred from the rights and protections afforded by marriage. Since its posting, that video has racked up more than four million views, and it has now been developed into a feature length documentary called Bridegroom. Linda Bloodworth-Thomason (Designing Women) produced and directed the feature which previously aired on Own and is available for purchase and download just today.

It was only May of last year when Shane Bitney Crone posted a YouTube video called “It Could Happen To You,” a very sad and moving 10-minute clip about his love Tom Bridegroom, who died after falling from a roof while taking pictures with friends. Bridegroom’s family never accepted their son’s gayness and they forbade Crone from attending his funeral, threatening him with violence if he tried.
Now Crone’s harrowing story has moved off of YouTube and into the documentary circuit. Bridegroom (which is out on DVD Nov. 19 and available on Netflix Instant now) aired on Own in early November and inspired rave reviews from Own heroine Oprah Winfrey and scores of celebrity admirers, including President Bill Clinton.
Perhaps that’s not terribly surprising considering Bridegroom‘s director Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, who created Designing Women and Evening Shade as well as several episodes of M*A*S...

It instantly went viral and continues to rack up millions and millions of views. Now, Shane has expanded that 10-minute video into a full-length documentary that shares his love story with Tom and calls for equal rights for the Lgbt community. Bridegroom is a moving and disarmingly straightforward documentary about a gay couple’s relationship that was cut short by a tragic accident. The surviving partner later posted a tribute on YouTube that garnered millions of views and inspired this film. Writer-producer-director Linda Bloodworth Thomason, best known as the creator of television’s Designing Women, wisely decided not to preach or take to a soapbox. Her film is effective because it tells one couple’s story and allows it to implicitly represent thousands of others. Shane Bitney Crone came from a conservative family in a small town in Montana. Tom Bridegroom was the pride of his family in Indiana, an honors student who...

"It was a four-story fall—from the top of the roof to the concrete pavement below. He had just passed his 29th birthday." Bridegroom, a gripping documentary that pivots on brutal familial homophobia, opens with a voiceover that marks the very moment a young gay couple's shared life comes to its end. A tearjerker that charms, infuriates, and devastates, director Linda Bloodworth-Thomason's film uses home movie clips, interviews with family and friends, re-created text messages, and a chilling 911 call to detail the stories—and then, tragically, the story—of Tom Bridegroom and Shane Bitney Crone. Part of the doc's power lies in the way it deftly captures the masks and struggles so many gay men live through as they forge their identity—from the...

You may recall a heartbreaking viral video (posted below) from early last year, in which Shane Bitney Crone detailed the beautiful relationship he had with longterm partner Tom Bridegroom before his tragic death the year prior. Bridegroom's family -- who had never accepted his sexuality or his relationship -- shut him out of the funeral. Crone decided to make the video, which got over 4 million hits and and attracted the attention of Linda Bloodworth-Thomason (who notably created "Designing Women" in addition to creating several promotional films for the Clinton family). She assembled the massive amount of footage Crone and Bridegroom had filmed together into "Bridegroom," an endlessly affecting documentary (which raised $384,375 on Kickstarter, becoming the most-funded documentary film project in the history of crowd-funding to date).
