Where can you meet likeminded UFO and paranormal enthusiasts from around the world? Check out these conventions.
At most comic cons and fan events, one expects to run into people dressed as supernatural entities, extraterrestrials, and mysterious creatures. But at paranormal, cryptozoology, and ufology events, fans are discussing the existence of them – and often gather to actively go looking for them.
And as much as I move about in the world of comic cons, for the past decade or so, I have spent weekends traveling the world to talk as a journalist and researcher about ghosts, demons, curses, aliens, UFO, and monsters. During the day, the world of paracons closely resembles most fan events, and there is quite a bit of cross-pollination between them. There are panels, vendor rooms, and signings by notable authors, television personalities, and occasionally actors from paranormal pop culture. But at night, the activities continue with a skywatch,...

A legend in the world of ghosts, on this plane of existence and perhaps the next, has passed on.

The team faced off against a Civil War era mortician on the season finale of "Haunted Collector." They headed to investigate an antique shop in Florida after the owner reported being attacked by ghosts.
They learned that a Dr. John Palmer had owned the house during the Civil War. He was a chemist and mortician, but there were rumors that he experimented on the dead bodies he received. When they brought up the rumors during their Evp session in the house, they got a chilling response.
“Did you do any of the experiments in this house?” John Zaffis asked.
A voice could clearly be heard responding, "Yes."
They determined that an old medical device that would have been used to drill into patients skulls as a treatment for mental illness -- or even simple headaches -- was giving off some unusual energy. After the te3am removed the drill, the...

On "Haunted Collector," John Zaffis and his crew headed to the Hollywood Hills to investigate the house Orson Welles lived in while he was working on the classic film, "Citizen Kane." The homeowner reported a lot of strange things happening in the night, that certainly had the familiar feel of paranormal activity.
He had heard footsteps in the night and even saw a shadowy figure in the basement. John thought that perhaps it was the famous filmmaker's ghost still roaming the halls of his old home. He felt that he got confirmation when he was able to make a sort of contact with what he believed was Welles' ghost.
"Orson Welles, are you in here?” he asked in one room. As if in response, a pool cue flew off the wall. He and his team were also able to hear the footsteps the homeowner had reported.

The trail took the team from "Haunted Collector" to Joplin, Missouri this week. The city was devastated by a tornado in May 2011, nearly two years ago now, and still there are many areas of the city in need of relief. For John Zaffis and his team, though, their focus was on resident Bob Wilson.
The family had been experiencing paranormal activity, including shaking furniture and visible spirit figures. The team used their Evp recorder to ask a possible spirit if it had been affected by the tornado. They could hear the word "yes" in response.
Bob was overwhelmed by the evidence. He said that he'd been out helping people in the tornado. The emotions were still very raw for Bob as he told John how he had stayed beside one injured man until the man passed away.
"I stayed with him until I saw the light and the light leave his eyes,...

Fans of "Haunted Collector" may never be completely comfortable in their showers again. The team was visiting a woman's house where Iroquois Indians were killed during the Revolutionary War, and she reported experience paranormal phenomenon in her home, and in the show. She said she's seen apparitions, and even been scratched by ghosts.
When the team did their investigation, they had an encounter, too. "“We see a very small form," team leader John Zaffis recalled later. "I don’t know exactly what it was -- a child, a little person -- but there was something there."
After some more digging into the local history, the team discovered that when the Iroquois were driven out of the area, they left behind a 4-year-old white child. The boy, who was starving at the time, was taken in by a soldier and given the name Thomas, but he wound up passing away from...

It’s true; no matter what certain networks may claim about their “winter finales,” winter doesn’t actually start until December 21, and isn’t over until March 20. Syfy, at least, understands this, and has announced their appropriately-titled winter schedule accordingly.
Happily this means that, starting on Monday, January 14, 2013, we will have some great television to get us through the cold months, including the return of Being Human and Lost Girl, and the premiere of Continuum, and later in the week, the return of Ghost Hunters and Face Off.
Here’s the schedule of premieres, along with series synopses:

One of the most difficult things to achieve on the myriad spirit hunting television shows is an actual visible spirit on film. "Haunted Collector" went to the Iao Theater in Hawaii and managed to do just that.
Performers at the theater reported seeing a female spirit on stage. Investigators found an old silent film reel that featured footage of a woman's face. The theater used to play silent films.
They set up the reel on stage and during their overnight investigation, and then they caught the moment they'd been hoping for.
"We see this white misty form actually moving across and then stopping at the table where that tin was," John Zaffis said.
In the end, the investigators theorized the spirit was looking for recognition, so they made a presentation out of the tin. It didn't seem to work, though, as the spirit is still being seen.
"Haunted Collector" continues Wednesdays at 9 pm.

In the end, the investigators theorized the spirit was looking for recognition, so they made a presentation out of the tin. It didn't seem to work, though, as the spirit is still being seen.

On the latest episode of "Haunted Collector" (Wed., 9 p.m. Et on Syfy) John Zaffis and his team headed to Warwick, New York to investigate a supposedly haunted house.
They heard screams in the night and what seemed to be ghostly voices. They also filmed a bunch of fresh flowers wilting in one particularly spooky room in a matter of minutes.
Eventually they discovered an old watch, which they thought may have been giving off some bad energy. After the team removed it the homeowners said the ghostly activity had stopped.
The ghost-hunting continues on "Haunted Collector," Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Et on Syfy.

On the latest episode of "Haunted Collector" (Wed., 9 p.m. Et on Syfy) John Zaffis and his team headed to Boonville, New York where they investigated reports of paranormal activity at an inn.
The Hulbert House certainly had some surprises in store for them.
When the team explored an unused part of the inn they found water running in bathrooms, and at least one team member thought she detected a ghostly presence pulling her hair.
They also found grisly evidence suggestive of the inn's rumored Mafia past in the shape of a garrotte, which was hidden in the attic.

The seemingly endless wait for the Syfy summer schedule is finally over! There is good news and bad, and one thing that is both good and bad. Let’s start with that: the Eureka Season Finale. We love Eureka, so every episode is good news; the fact that it’s a series finale, not so much. Mark your calendars – and have plenty of Kleenex in stock – for July 16 at 9/8c. Right after Comic-Con, which is early this year. We’ll see if that means a panel or not.
The good news: Warehouse 13 and Alphas return on July 23. The hmmm news is that Lost Girl will move to Fridays at 10 on July 20. Hey That’S Haven’S Spot. So Where The Heck Is Haven? Admittedly we had a head’s up that Haven would be pushed to fall when we learned that the DVDs for Season 2 weren’t being released until September but Argh.

Syfy premieres a new reality series, Haunted Collector, another in the genre of reality investigation shows, but with a twist. Rather than a ghost or particular entity, the show focuses on objects that have some sort of energy associated with them. John Zaffis, a paranormal investigator for the past 30 years, leads the team along with his son and daughter. John recently spoke to MediaBlvd and Sci-Fi Vision about the new series, and the background of their investigations.

The people at Syfy love everything and anything that is haunted. They have added a new reality show to their already spooktastic lineup which includes more Ghost Hunter spin-offs than CSIs. Called Haunted Collector, the show follows paranormal researcher John Zaffis and his quest for haunted objects. More after the jump. When Zaffis locates an object, he identifies the source of the haunting, then seals it away in his "paranormal museum," specially built to "negate the negative effects of the haunted objects." Sounds like a reality version of Friday the 13th: The Series. Haunted Collector premieres Wednesday, June 1st at 9pm on Syfy.

By now, we've all seen the trailers of creepy shadow people, a boy with strange writing all over his body, and women screaming when the shower curtain attacks them. All this, and more, is the movie The Haunting in Connecticut, and to top it off, there's that ubiquitous tag: "Based on a true story." But just how much of what is depicted in the movie is true? Who was the family, and what really happened in that house? The answers to those questions are complicated and, much like other "true" stories, mired in controversy.
The Story:
In 1986 Carmen and Al Snedeker moved to the small town of Southington, Connecticut, with the purpose of being closer to the hospital at which their oldest son was being treated for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Having fallen on hard financial times, the family jumped at the chance to rent what appeared to be the perfect house.
