United Talent Agency is making changes to the leadership of its news and broadcasting department, the unit that negotiates on behalf of journalists and news personalities.
According to a memo sent to staff Tuesday by UTA vice-chairman Jay Sures and COO and co-head of UTA Sports Andrew Thau, the agency is elevating Ryan Hayden and Marc Paskin to be co-heads of its news and broadcasting department.
Peter Goldberg, who had led the department since 2017, will stay with the company as a partner and senior agent. Goldberg joined UTA in its acquisition of N.S. Bienstock, the agency that helped create the market for news and journalism talent under the leadership of the late Richard Leibner.
Paskin and Hayden will report to Sures in their new roles, with Hayden also continuing to oversee UTA Sports alongside Jerry Silbowitz, reporting in to Thau.

In the pre-coverage of Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, the speech is being billed as the most important of his presidency, what with his dismal approval numbers and what is shaping up to be very difficult campaign for reelection.
Moreover, so much attention has been paid to the president’s age — at 81, he is the first octogenarian on a major party ticket — that any kind of slip up will be seized upon by his rivals.

Updated: The White House has declined CBS News’ request for a sit down interview with President Joe Biden tied to the Super Bowl, the network confirmed.
This will mark the second year in a row that the White House has bypassed an interview with the Super Bowl host network, which had become annual tradition for administrations given that the event reaches such a huge audience. CBS has the rights to the Feb. 11 event between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.
Last year, the White House declined a Fox News request for an interview when Fox had the rights to the big game. Variety first reported on the declined request.
A White House official confirmed that the request was turned down. But the administration has not given a reason as to why. Biden has been in the midst of the crisis in the Middle East, as the U.

Updated with debate field set: CNN said Tuesday that former President Donald Trump, former Un ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis have qualified for their January 10 debate in Iowa.
But only Haley and DeSantis will be participating in the event, as Trump will be doing some counter-programming: a town hall on Fox News. The CNN debate and the Fox News town hall will begin at the same time, 9 p.m. Et.
CNN’s Dana Bash and Jake Tapper will moderate the debate; Fox News’ Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum will moderate the town hall.

Fox News, for an eighth year in a row, also was the top-rated cable network overall.
In seven-day primetime, Fox News averaged 1.85 million viewers, down 20% from a year earlier. MSNBC averaged 1.22 million, up 2%, and CNN posted 582,000, down 19%. In the adults 25-54 demo, Fox News averaged 212,000, down 38%, while CNN posted 125,000, down 27% and MSNBC had 124,000, down 6%.

Fox News has promoted Gillian Turner to anchor and state department and foreign policy correspondent.
Turner, who joined Fox News in 2014 and has worked as a correspondent and fill-in anchor since 2018, will now cover international and domestic issues at the State Department. Turner has previously covered news events like the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and Donald Trump’s first indictment.
She will continue to work as a substitute anchor on programs like Special Report, America’s Newsroom or America Reports.
Turner previously worked for the consulting and lobbying firm Jones Group International and for the White House National Security Council during the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations.
Turner’s promotion comes just a few months after Fox locked in its top news anchor Bret Baier to a multi-year contract extension, and a week after Fox made changes in its C suite.

Liz Cheney, in a sometimes contentious interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, at one point addressed the network’s viewers with a message: Don’t vote for Donald Trump.
“We can have conservative policies without having to torch the Constitution,” Cheney said. “And so what I would urge people watching today who are going to be voting in those caucuses and in those primaries, vote for somebody else. Do not vote for somebody who already tried to seize power.”
Now an outcast from the Republican party for her criticism of Trump and her warnings about giving him a second term, Cheney has made numerous appearances across other media outlets as she promotes her book, Oath and Honor. Her first big sitdown was with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, and there was some question as to whether she would appear on Fox News at all. On CNBC, Cheney criticized Fox News host Sean Hannity for “enabling” Trump.

Bret Baier’s recent Fox News interview with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman took up less than 36 minutes on the cable outlet’s “Special Report.” Behind the scenes, preparations took months.
Baier spent time in the U.S. with Princess Reema, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, and made a special trip overseas to meet with various ministers and the head of state himself to test their rapport. “I went over on a flier,” says Baier during an interview in Fox News Channel’s New York offices. “I said there was not going to be any laying out of what the questions are, that it was going to be tough but fair. And we came to the end, and he said, ‘I think I’m going to do it.’ It took a few months after that to get it locked down.”
What Baier got was something of a surprise.

Update: Fox News’ Bret Baier said that the planned televised joint interview on Monday with speaker of the House contenders is off, after pushback from other lawmakers.
“They had all agreed, the pressure built, and that’s what happened,” Baier said on Fox News on Friday afternoon.
He said that he is still planning to bring his Special Report to Capitol Hill on Monday with different guests.
Baier said that on Thursday, Steve Scalise and Jim Jordan had said that they would participate. The plans were for a third congressman, Kevin Hern, to participate as well, with the idea that he will have declared by that he was running for speaker by the time the event was announced on Special Report on Friday evening.
Then, news of Baier’s involvement in an event with the speaker candidates leaked out on Friday morning, with reports that the Fox anchor would be...

In fact, when his rivals gather at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library for the second debate on Wednesday, the question will be whether the event on Fox Business and Univision can match last month’s figures for the first gathering: a higher-than-expected 12.8 million viewers.

Fox News Bret Baier sat down with Saudi Arabian leader Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman tonight and, to Baier’s credit, asked some pointed questions which Mbs – as he is known – answered in turn with degrees of candor and deflection.
Among them were queries about the reported $2 billion the Kingdom invested with Jared Kushner shortly after Donald Trump left office, the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, the normalization of ties with Israel, Liv Golf, Russia and, maybe most important to many Americans, the Saudi government’s role in the attacks of 9/11.

Fox News has extended Bret Baier’s multi-year deal where he will remain in his role as chief political anchor for the network after the conclusion of the 2024 presidential election.
Baier will continue to serve as the anchor and executive editor of “Special Report.” He will also remain as the co-anchor of the network’s 2024 election coverage and the host of “The Bret Baier Podcast” on Fox News Audio.

The Fox News anchor, who hosts the afternoon program Special Report and serves as Fnc’s chief political anchor, has signed a contract extension with the cable news channel.
“I am honored to continue anchoring Special Report and alongside my dedicated team and co-anchoring our election coverage for many years to come,” Baier said in a statement.
Baier last signed a contract extension in 2021, in a deal that was set to run into 2026. It was not immediately clear how long Baier’s new contract runs, though Fox says it is a “multi-year” extension.

The singer-songwriter responsible for the unexpected summer hit Rich Men North Of Richmond released a video statement on Friday that lamented the way that it has been “weaponized” by political figures, including the way that GOP candidates addressed it at Wednesday night’s presidential debate.
“It was funny seeing it at the presidential debate, because it’s like I wrote that song about those people. So for them to have to sit there and listen to that, that cracks me up,” said the singer-songwriter, Oliver Anthony. “It was funny kind of seeing the response to it.”
At the debate, Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum noted that Anthony’s song speaks “of alienation, of deep frustration with the state of government and of this country. Washington DC is about 100 miles north of Richmond.” The song was essentially a jumping off point for the candidates to deliver introductory messages, including attacks on President Joe Biden.

Wednesday’s debate in Milwaukee, which featured eight candidates looking to challenge former president Donald Trump — who decided not to take part — averaged about 13 million viewers across platforms, according to Nielsen ratings and Fox’s own streaming measurement. While that’s way below the 24 million who tuned into the first GOP primary debate in 2015, when Trump’s campaign was just taking off, it did beat the 12.5 million for Fox News’ last primary debate without Trump. When debate moderator Bret Baier asked a stage of 2024 Republican presidential hopefuls to raise their hands if they would support their absent rival Donald Trump’s nomination even if he was convicted in one of the many court cases he’s currently facing, all but two of the eight candidates present raised their hands.
