Ryan Gosling is Colt Seavers, a stunt man for the movies, particularly doubling for famous action star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). As the film begins, it’s established that Colt has a relationship with Jody (Emily Blunt), but the relationship is severed after Colt breaks his back with a stunt gone wrong. After a year goes by and he’s healed, Colt gets a call from Movie Producer Gail (Hannah Waddingham from “Ted Lasso”), hiring him back to work on a film that Jody is directing. When a murder occurs and Colt is framed for it, he suddenly involved in more than just stunts

Ryan Gosling is back at the box office, but he’s ditching his “Barbie” fur coat for a stuntman’s jumpsuit.
His latest movie, “The Fall Guy,” has arrived in theaters and made $3.15 million in Thursday previews at the box office.
The film is expected to open around $30 million this weekend, with some estimates as high as $35 million or $40 million. It will need to hit hard at the box office and carry good word-of-mouth, because it carries a budget of $130 million.
Gosling stars as seasoned stuntman Colt Seavers in Universal’s “The Fall Guy,” which is based on the ’80s TV show of the same name that starred Lee Majors as a stuntman turned bounty hunter. After a grisly accident, Colt retires from the stunt life and breaks up with his girlfriend and camera operator Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). Don't look now, but Hollywood is going back to its old-school roots with "The Fall Guy." Director David Leitch's throwback blockbuster (reviewed here by /Film's Jacob Hall) not only gives stunt people the overdue celebration that they heartily deserve, but it uses some very tried-and-true methods to do so. Relying almost entirely on the star power of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt along with the undeniable chemistry sizzling between the two leads, the rom-com masquerading as an action film might as well be shaking audiences by the collar to remind them why we go to the movies in the first place. Although based on a lesser-known television series, this adaptation doesn't resort to the same kinds of gimmicks as typical franchise films.

Stunt work is all about selling an illusion. When the medium of cinema was first invented, it was initially marketed and thought of as something akin to a sideshow attraction, a wondrous magic trick where a series of pictures put next to each other and illuminated in rapid succession gave the illusion of movement. After this initial novelty gave way to artists utilizing the medium to tell stories, the craftspeople making movies realized that the concept of illusion extended to every aspect of filmmaking.
Where theatre was traditionally bound to a stage or perhaps a circus tent, the movies could expand the canvas of what could be done physically — if cameras could capture it, it could be performed. It's no surprise, then, that films saw people like Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and others push the boundaries of physicality and feats of derring-do in the cinema.

This weekend, "The Fall Guy" kicks off blockbuster summer with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt starring in an endlessly entertaining blend of incredible action, charming romance, and Hollywood satire that makes for a spectacular time at the movies. The film follows Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers (Gosling) as he gets recruited to track down A-list star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), the actor Colt used to double for before a freak accident took him out of the stunt game. If Ryder can't be found, it could end up derailing the blockbuster movie "Metalstorm" being directed by his estranged ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno (Blunt). Explosions, intrigue, car chases, fights with fists and bullets, and much more ensue while trying to solve the mystery and save the movie.
But did you know "The Fall Guy" is actually based on a classic TV show from the 1980s?...

Based on the television show of the same name that ran for five seasons from 1981-86 and starred Lee Majors and Heather Thomas, director David Leitch’s new film, The Fall Guy, employs the same combination of action and sexual tension that fueled the show (albeit not necessarily between the two main characters). This approach makes for an entertaining and somewhat nostalgic aura around a film that, if approached a different way, could have resulted in another disappointing cinematic adaptation of a popular television property.

The new action-comedy movie The Fall Guy is being criticized for a joke involving Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.
As you’re probably aware, Amber and Johnny got married in 2015 and then ended their marriage just over a year later. They ended up in a legal battle for years over several claims from both sides, including domestic violence allegations.
In The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling stars as Colt Seavers, a battle-scarred stuntman who, having left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health, is drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie — being directed by his ex, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt) – goes missing.
The Amber-Johnny joke in the movie is delivered by Hannah Waddingham, who plays producer Gail Meyer.

Gail walks into a messy trailer on set and remarks, “It’s like Amber and Johnny were just in here.

Spoiler alert: As much as Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt remain the undeniable draws of "The Fall Guy," there are multiple contenders in the cast for the sought-after crown of "Best Scene Stealer." You have Aaron Taylor-Johnson, an inspired bit of casting as the insufferable A-lister casting a long shadow over Gosling's stuntman Colt Seavers. Then there's the great Hannah Waddingham, chewing up the scenery (and then some) as the no-nonsense producer Gail Meyer who stops at nothing to keep the show on the road. Heck, you could even go with either of the two dogs that portrayed Jean Claude, the Australian Kelpie that only responds to French commands and takes on an unforgettable supporting role amid all the action.
But more than anyone else, it's Winston Duke who walks away with one of his funniest and most memorable performances in recent years as Dan Tucker, a veteran stunt coordinator...

A line of dialogue in The Fall Guy is already causing discourse among some viewers, prior to it opening in theaters.
In the David Leitch-directed action-comedy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, Hannah Waddingham’s character, Gail Meyer, at one point makes a reference to Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s turbulent relationship.
In the scene, Waddingham, who plays an executive producer in the movie, reportedly walks into a trailer while looking disheveled and tells director Jody Moreno (Blunt), “It’s like Amber and Johnny were just in here.”
Some viewers have since taken to social media to criticize the line, with one user writing on X (formerly Twitter), “‘The Fall Guy’ made a distasteful “joke” about the domestic abuse amber suffered at the hands of johnny. it’s 2024, why are we writing these kinds of lines into movies? nasty work.”

Colt Seaver seems to have it all. He has one of the best jobs in the world as the stuntman for the world’s biggest action star, Tom Ryder. On top of that, he has fallen in love with camera operator Jody Moreno.
Everything seems perfect. But when a stunt on Ryder’s latest film goes wrong, Colt finds himself severely injured. No longer feeling invincible, he withdraws from everything… including his relationship with Jody.
Eighteen months later, Colt finds himself at rock bottom when the phone rings. Producer Gail Meyer wants him to return to stunts for Tom Ryder.
Colt is initially skeptical until Gail tells him that Jody is the director of Tom’s big blockbuster film, and she has requested him to do stunts. Seeing an opportunity to rekindle the flame with Jody, he immediately hops on a flight to Sydney to join the production.

With the WGA and actors strikes resolved and summer blockbusters starting to roll in, May is filled with both big budget flicks and new indie releases.

David Leitch’s action-comedy The Fall Guy isn’t the normal kind of stunt Hollywood usually relies on to herald the start of the summer box office, but these aren’t normal times.
Outside of the pandemic era, that job belonged to superhero tentpoles, and specifically Marvel Studios fare (including all four Avengers movies). And Marvel returned to do the honors last year when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 debuted to $118.4 million over the May 5-7 weekend. But Hollywood was thrown off kilter again by last year’s labor strikes, with the release calendar put in disarray. Then there’s the not so-little-issue of superhero fatigue, which has forced both Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment to regroup, although Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine should a long way to aiding Marvel.

Hype can kill a great moviegoing experience. And frankly, there was a lot of hype even before I stepped into David Leitch’s take on the classic series, The Fall Guy. Thankfully, this time, it’s beyond well warranted. Starring the ridiculously charismatic Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, this love letter to the amazing world of stuntwork shines. The action is predictably glorious – it’s David Leitch, the man excels at this – and the performances are perfection. It’s that rare cinematic treat that manages to do nearly everything well, and it works. Whether or not you are familiar with the cool as hell Lee Majors series (1981-86), you will fall for Leitch’s amazing work.

Beavis and Butt-Head made an unexpected red carpet debut at the Los Angeles premiere of “The Fall Guy” on Tuesday night.
Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day appeared on the carpet together dressed as live-action versions of Beavis and Butt-Head, respectively, from the infamous “Saturday Night Live” sketch.
After initially posing for photos in a mint green monochromatic suit, Gosling disappeared while his “Fall Guy” co-star Emily Blunt, along with the rest of the cast and crew, did interviews. When he returned to the carpet, Gosling — wearing a prosthetic nose, blonde wig and Beavis’ signature “Death Rock” T-shirt — had a peculiar plus one by his side: Butt-Head (Day).

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt arrived at the L.A. premiere of The Fall Guy, the action-comedy film directed by David Leitch.
Gosling, accompanied by Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day, also appeared on the red carpet dressed as Beavis and Butt-Head. The duo spoofed the animated series from earlier this month on the NBC late-night show and made Heidi Gardner lose it on air.

Despite David Leitch’s background as a stunt actor and coordinator, not to mention the fact that his co-directorial debut, John Wick, set a bar for hard-hitting action, there’s been a certain weightlessness to every film he’s made since his sophomore film, Atomic Blonde. From Deadpool 2 to Bullet Train, they all glide along as briskly and smoothly as, well, a bullet train. They’re sleek, sure, but they’re also free of any heft or tactile quality.
The Fall Guy, then, is a modest improvement, in that there’s at least a sense of physicality to some of its action sequences, though that’s to be expected: As this is a film about the making of a movie, so much of the action that we’re watching has yet to be beefed up by chaotic editing and CGI noise. And thanks to magnetic performances by Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt,...

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are ready to leap into action later this week when The Fall Guy races into theaters. As the blistery winter winds blow away and the summer heat increases in certain parts of the world, the duo’s new action-packed homage to stunt performers arrives to take the box office (and your wallet) by storm! Analysts expect The Fall Guy to reach $30M+ in its opening gambit, with some studio execs saying the film could reach $35-40 million.
While a box office opening in the 30s would be solid for an original action film, The Fall Guy cost a reported $130 million to produce. If you like the film, be sure to sing its praises from the rafters. Word of mouth goes a long way with films like this, regardless of the fact that two of Hollywood’s heaviest hitters lead the charge. Meanwhile, The Fall Guy...

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, two essential ingredients in the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, will leave Barbieland and Los Alamos behind them as they team up for “The Fall Guy.” But will audiences turn up in force to see the “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” stars when their new action comedy debuts this weekend?
Well, “The Fall Guy” isn’t going to hit those films’ box office heights, but it should have no trouble topping charts as it kicks off the summer movie season. The film is expected to earn north of $30 million, with some rival studio executives pegging the opening at between $35 million to $40 million. The catch is that movie wasn’t cheap to produce, boasting a healthy budget of $130 million, so “The Fall Guy” will need strong word-of-mouth if it’s going to leg it out on the long path to profitability. It will also need to do well overseas. “The Fall Guy...

On Saturday, WeAreMovieGeeks.com got a sneak peek at the Fall Guy Stuntacular at Universal Studios Hollywood. Based on the upcoming reboot of the 80’s classic TV series, The Fall Guy Stuntacular is a limited running show at the popular movie theme park. Presented just before the Water World stunt show at Universal, this new show features many of the big stunts from the movie. And as if that wasn’t enough, Ryan Gosling, star of the new film was on hand to treat the invited audience to the first look at the stunts and the stunt men and women who make it all possible. Gosling called the film, “a love letter to the stunt community” that has been overshadowed for years. Laughs were also abound, as Gosling doubled down on his likeability and comic chops, joking with the crowd and director of the film David Leitch who was also in attendance.

Plot: After being gravely injured, a stuntman named Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) tries to win back his ex, a movie director named Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt), by finding the star of her mega-budget action movie, who’s gone missing after falling in with a dangerous crowd.
Review: The Fall Guy is director David Leitch’s love letter to the stunt profession. For those not in the know, Leitch, before becoming a director known for blockbusters like Bullet Train and Deadpool 2, was a stuntman, having worked on a slew of action classics. With this, he pays homage to an industry that was best described recently by Nicolas Cage, who said in an interview, “Every movie star needs to be a stunt man, every stunt man needs to be a movie star.”

It's no secret that the first third of 2024 has been at best uneven as far as the box office goes. Ticket sales are lagging way behind this same point in 2023, in no small part thanks to movies like "Abigail" and "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" underperforming on the same weekend. Thankfully, the summer movie season is on the horizon and Hollywood, as well as theater owners, will hinge their hopes on a varied slate being able to sell an outsized number of tickets. That all begins next weekend with the release of Universal's "The Fall Guy." The question is, can Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt strike gold in the summer season once again after last year's Barbenheimer phenomenon?
"The Fall Guy" will be the first blockbuster to hit theaters in May, which typically ushers in the summer for Hollywood. Currently, the big-budget action/comedy is looking at an opening weekend in the $40 million range,...

Getting ready to hit the cinemas pretty soon, David Leitch’s The Fall Guy starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt is kicking it off on a good note. Though the movie is still a week away from its official theatrical release, the first reviews are generally promising and The Fall Guy can even boast of a solid 88% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite all the stars aligning for the film’s success, not everything in the upcoming comedy is that funny — and one single joke currently makes the first viewers crash the entire movie.
The scene that makes everyone rage about it shows Game of Thrones and Ted Lasso’s star Hannah Waddingham walking into a trailer that looks extremely messy — apparently, after some kind of fight that happened in there.
Glancing the entire room over, Waddingham’s character notes “It's like Amber and Johnny were just in here.” The phrase comes...

But did you know that in this list of her admirers, Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling’s name exists too? Well, as surprising as it may be, it most certainly does, and the actor himself admitted to it.

Praise from a movie veteran like Steven Spielberg has to be more than anything an actor can wish for. After doing his most recent film, The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling got the stamp of approval from the legendary director.

David Leitch’s The Fall Guy is an action-packed comedy with elements of thrill to complement the narrative starring Gosling and Emily Blunt. Certainly, the movie deserves attention not just for the star power but for the action and narrative point of view as the movie went on to claim the accolades from Spielberg.
