Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui
Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Vaani Kapoor
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor
The most modest praise for this wonderful film would be that it is by far the best post-Covid Hindi release. Which is not saying much, considering the abysmal near-unpalatable fare that Bollywood has been shamelessly shelling out since the Pandemic.
Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is quite simply the film everyone must see. It tell us about tolerance, and acceptance without getting preachy and screechy. Director Abhishek Kapoor manages the near-miraculous feat of keeping the tone blithe and buoyant even when the going between the couple gets really rough.
There is a disarmingly fine-tuned moment of pathos running into humour without collision when the film’s lead pair has a showdown on the street of Chandigarh. Two cops, concerned about ‘Bahenji’ stop to inquire.
You have to see the rest of the sequence to know what fluent screenwriting is all about.

But not just that, I am thrilled with the overall response the trailer and the film has been getting across,” says Leena. Interestingly, the screenplay of Leena’s debut film ‘Shabd’ too is a part of the collection at the Oscar library. “Yes, it is twice as nice for me. It’s encouraging as a filmmaker,” she adds.

Ajay Devgn, Producer, says: “‘Parched’ is about the small battles that woman must fight to win the big war. Films like ‘Parched’ need to be made, seen, and discussed. Then maybe along the way we can correct some of the many wrongs that women have suffered since eternity.” Parched is about a rural Indian village called Ujhaas, where three ordinary women begin to break free from century-old traditions that have kept them locked in servitude.
Parched is one of the most highly awarded film internationally in recent times with almost 18 awards including the first ever ‘Impact Award’ at Stockholm International Film Festival. Other awards include – Audience Award (Best Film) and Jury Award (Best Actress for...

The 14th of July could well go down in history, not only as the opening night of the 2016 London Indian Film Festival (Liff), but also as the day that a film festival began to change the world. It may sound like a bold claim but it’s backed up by the festival’s diverse and pioneering programme which brought a wide variety of brand new features, documentaries, and short films which challenge the firmly held stereotypes of India and South Asia.
The festival kicked off with the powerful and deeply moving Parched, directed by Leena Yadav who is another of the steadily expanding group of famous female Indian directors who are gaining recognition on the world stage.
Before the movie, the director, producer Ajay Devgn, and the stars of the film Tannishtha Chatterjee, Chandan Anand, and Lehar Khan had the full red-carpet experience. This gave the assembled...

Starring – Tabu, Katrina Kaif, Aditya Roy Kapoor and above all, Kashmir
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor
There is only one hero in Abhishek Kapoor’s massively disappointing and bogus adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. And it’s not Aditya Roy Kapoor. It’s Kashmir. The film, purported to be a romance between the bewitching Katrina Kaif and the besotted Aditya Roy Kapoor, romances just the Kashmir Valley. The rest is all mystery.
I recommend Fitoor be used to promote tourism in the Valley. As for Charles Dickens and Great Expectations, thankfully the author is not around to see how far his novel about forbidden love has been taken away from its roots.
Dickens’ title, as it turns out, proves prophetically ironic. You enter director Abhishek Kapoor’s snow-swept stunning world of stillness and turbulence, with a whole lot of expectations. You come away feeling cheated, betrayed and also angry for...

After his book inspired 3 Idiots, India’s biggest blockbuster of all time, Chetan Bhagat is set to see another one of his bestsellers ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’ made into a movie by the acclaimed director Abhishek Kapoor. Abhishek’s subtle and nuanced understanding of characters and friendships, which he handled brilliantly in Rock On!, makes him the only film maker who could have directed Kai Po Che!
Utv has officially bought the rights to the bestselling book that was first published in May 2008 and had an initial print-run of 420,000 copies with many reprints after that. Abhishek Kapoor dons the director’s mantle for the first time since Rock On! with a screenplay also written by himself, Pubali Chaudhuri, Supratik Sen and Chetan Bhagat.
The film, which has dollops of fun, friendship, masti, and highlights the coming of age of a group of three middle class youth, starts shooting in April.
