Exclusive: Picture Tree International (Pti) has acquired international sales rights for Icelandic box office hit Grand Finale (Fullt hús) for an EFM launch.
The Nordic comedy is the debut feature of Icelandic actor, writer and producer Sigurjon Kjartansson who is best known internationally as the showrunner of hit series Trapped and co-creator of Netflix’s Katia.
Have premiered domestically on January 26, Grand Finale is currently at the top of Iceland’s box office charts with a ticket share of 28% on the opening weekend.
The dark comedy revolves around a chamber orchestra working out of a rundown theatre in Reykjavik on a shoe-string budget.

Triangle of Sadness, Ruben Östlund’s biting takedown of the one percent, was the big winner at the 35th European Film Awards, landing four trophies including the top prize of Best European Film at the gala award ceremony in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Saturday.

The 35th European Film Awards are underway at the Harpa concert hall in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavík. The awards have been voted on by the 4,400 members of the European Film Academy. (Watch the ceremony here.)
“Close,” “Holy Spider” and “Triangle of Sadness” lead the nominations tally, with four apiece, followed by “Corsage” with three.

Talent from “Trapped” and “Sense8” have joined the cast of the anticipated Icelandic crime series “Sisterhood,” the first project coming out of Sagafilm and Sky Studios’s development and distribution deal.
Leading Icelandic production house Sagafilm enlisted Lilja Nótt Þórarinsdóttir, Jóhanna Friðrika Sæmundsdóttir (“Happily Never After”) and Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir (“Trapped”) to headline the cast of “Sisterhood.”
The crime series, which starts shooting this week, “Sisterhood” follows three women whose are forced to face the horrors of their past after the remains of a 13 year-old girl are discovered 25 years after her mysterious disappearance. “Sisterhood” also centers on Vera, a newly-promoted investigator who is assigned the case, and explores how the three women have gone through their lives carrying the heavy burden of guilt which has marked them all in different ways since their teenage years.
