Since its debut in 2000, hundreds of castaways have played the game of “Survivor.” While many have been injured on CBS’s reality TV show, no one has ever died during filming. Sadly, several former players have passed away since leaving the island. In our “Survivor” deaths photo gallery above, we take a moment to remember all of the people who we’ve lost over the years, including most recently Sonja Christopher of Season 1 fame. Their torches will live on forever in our hearts.

Cassandra Anne “Angie” Jakusz, a former contestant on season 10 of CBS’ reality show “Survivor,” died Jan. 8. She was 40 years old.
Jakusz was born and raised in Waukesha, Wis. but lived in New Orleans, La. at the time of her entry onto “Survivor: Palau.” Prior to living in New Orleans, Jakusz resided in San Francisco and New York City.
A former “Survivor: Palau” contestant who competed with Jakusz, Coby Archa, told People Magazine that Jakusz’s family made it public that Jakusz had cancer.
“We had heard from her family 3 years ago that she was battling cancer,” Archa said. “We raised some money for her treatments. She wasn’t into the fame, just the experience of Survivor. She came, she played, and she went back to her life in New Orleans. She liked her life that way.”
An obituary for Jakusz reads, “Angie was an incredibly passionate person with an extraordinary lust for life.

Angie Jakusz, a contestant on the CBS show Survivor: Palau, died January 8 in New Orleans from cancer at age 40, according to news reports.
Born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Jakusz lived in San Francisco and New York before moving to New Orleans.
Jakusz was cast on the show in 2005 while working as a bartender. She immediately attracted attention on the show because of her colorful tattoos. However, she confounded low expectations and became a popular contestant with viewers. She survived several tribal councils before being voted off.
She was last seen by fans at the ‘Survivor’ 10-year anniversary party in 2010. Survivors include her husband, Steven Calandra, her parents, a brother, niece and nephew.
