First baseman (and, early in career, occassional catcher and third
baseman) with the Detroit Tigers (1934, 1937-1945), Boston Red Sox
(1946-1947[start]), Chicago White Sox (1947[end]), and Philadelphia
Phillies (1948).
Made major league debut on 22 August 1934 (first of 3 games played that
season).
In 1943 led the American League in home runs (34), runs batted in
(118), and slugging percentage (.527).
In 1959 served as interim manager of the Boston Red Sopx for 1
game.
