Amid the bad optics of appearing on social media with Kim Kardashian at a Dolce & Gabbana show in Puglia, Italy as SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP contract talks went down to the wire, the actors’ president Fran Drescher, along with the guild’s National Executive Director and chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, blasted “employers” at the SAG-AFTRA Strike presser this Am for stirring up the bad ink against The Nanny actress.
“That wasn’t a selfie!” exclaimed Drescher in fielding a question about the incident earlier this week, which Deadline first told you about. Kardashian posted the photo with Drescher on her Instagram Stories thread.

With days to go before SAG-AFTRA’s current film-and-tv contract expires, union president Fran Drescher was photographed smiling for the camera with Kim Kardashian, who snapped a photo with the actress at a Dolce & Gabbana event in Puglia, Italy.
Drescher drew harsh criticism from Hollywood insiders, who pointed out the poor timing and optics of the photo amid a potential SAG-AFTRA strike. Kardashian, who shared the photo on her Instagram stories, recently faced controversy after reportedly crossing the WGA picket line in New York to film the upcoming season of American Horror Story.

Exclusive: After getting flamed by writers on social media for posting about being on the set of American Horror Story while striking WGA writers were outside picketing, Kim Kardashian’s at it again.
While all Hollywood has been hanging on with worry about the potential SAG-AFTRA strike, Kardashian posted a pic with the guild’s president Fran Drescher for a Dolce & Gabbana show, mugging for the cameras in Puglia, Italy. See it below.
Kardashian posted the photo on her Instagram Stories thread, and while Kardashian makes her coin by living life in a fishbowl, many in town think that the optics here look terrible for Drescher, whom many figured would have been sweating at the negotiating table in hopes that a deal might prevent many from potentially losing their homes if the business shuts down. Drescher, who chairs the guild’s negotiating committee, is returning to L.A.

Exclusive: As SAG-AFTRA prepares for a possible strike next week, Fran Drescher, the guild’s president, said in a recent email chain that she was willing to go on strike in 2021 over Hollywood’s Covid vaccination mandates.
Drescher, who had been the leading voice among union leaders against the mandates, on Thursday told critics who accused her of not doing enough to end them that “If it were up to me, I would have asked to strike over it, but a union cannot strike with a handful of members when repeatedly, even today with all the controversy, the majority as seen in the LA local meeting, overwhelmingly disagree with you or have changed their thinking on this issue.”
The mandates were approved by the studios, guilds and unions as part of the industry’s Covid return-to-work protocols and allowed employers to require vaccinations as a condition of employment. First implemented in June 2021, the mandates ended,...

Chicago – Ava DuVernay’s Sundance award-winning drama “Middle of Nowhere” is a confident, engaging drama strengthened by genuine, moving performances, particularly the stunningly good one at its center from Emayatzy Corinealdi. The movie sometimes falters due to some melodramatic, on-the-nose dialogue, but there’s an honesty, compassion, and genuine quality here that’s too often missing from adult dramas. It’s a striking debut.
Like so many Sundance dramas, “Middle of Nowhere” tells a relatively simple story but does so with enough artistic intent and truth of character that the common story that it tells becomes uncommonly good in its telling. There are strong performances across the board here but the film belongs to the stunning Emayatzy Corinealdi, who is in nearly every scene and imbues her performance with the kind of believability that is lacking from too many films like this one. I kept marveling at the sense...
