Hollywood’s getting a little better at telling stories that incorporate more diverse perspectives, with women and people of color getting more opportunities both in front of the camera and behind it. While that kind of representation is important in superhero films, action flicks, and comedies, it’s essential when you’re telling historical stories. In its reflection on Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed Dunkirk, a Guardian essay from author Sunny Singh argues that the film’s lack of diversity hurts not just the movie but also the history upon which it shines a light.
Singh points out that the film not only erases the Royal Indian Army Services Corp. companies that transported supplies during the battle, but it also fails to depict the reality that the French army was filled with soldiers from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and other colonies. She continues, “It also ignores the fact that by 1938 ...

Luv Ranjan who has just delivered a walloping surprise success at the box office with Pyaar Ka Punchnaama 2 is in no hurry to carry the franchise ahead. "It took me three years to put together a sequel. It may take me another three years or even more to come up with another Punchnama film," confesses Luv Ranjan, as he gets set to celebrate the film's success with his producer Abhishek Pathak, cast, team and friends on Wednesday with a party. "Its a small unplanned celebration for those who cared for our film and believed in my belief that successful films can be made without big stars," says Luv whose previous film the seriously-toned Akaash Vani about a marital misalliance was a box office failure. But Luv Ranjan is undeterred by the suggestion that a non-Punchnama film may not work at the box office. "The fear of the unknown cannot turn...

The sequel to the popular comedy about a bunch of girl-chasing boys serves up a variation on the original theme – but can’t disguise its basic hostility to its women characters
Although Luv Ranjan’s battle-of-the-sexes comedy Pyaar Ka Punchnama (off-putting English translation: Postmortem of Love) opened to some commercial success back in 2011, it generated much the same mixed critical response that The Hangover had received two years before. Introduced to three young bucks who swore, partied and displayed the dismayed reactions to women common to many young men, plenty simply relaxed in its company. Equally, though, there were those who found the casual denigration of the fairer sex as scolds, teases and worse besides suspect in the extreme. If Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, a more-of-the-same sequel, isn’t a Hangover II-style atrocity, it nevertheless perpetuates a similarly divisive, problematic worldview.

Remember Pyaar Ka Punchnama (Pkp) that released in 2011? Well the film that enthralled the audience with its more than witty dialogues is set for a sequel Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (Pkp 2) that is slated for release on October 16. Now we hear that while the Central Board of Film Certification (Cbfc) had granted the first film a UA certificate its sequel has received an 'Adults Only' certification from the Cbfc. Confirming the same Kumar Mangat the film's producer says, "Yes we have received an 'A' certificate from the Cbfc but we always knew that we would get the same. In fact the board did suggest a few alterations to the film with which Pkp 2 would have received a UA rating, but we preferred to retain the objectionable portions and go with an Adults only rating." Further adding Abhishek Pathak says, "Since the release of Pkp in 2011, there have been...
