CBS’ decision to pull Partners and swap in sitcom repeats on Monday at 8:30 promptly paid dividends: A warmed-over Two and a Half Men last night drew 6.4 million total viewers while scoring a 2.1 demo rating, improving on Partners‘ final performance by 17 percent.
That in turn teed up 2 Broke Girls (9.74 mil/3.4) for a gain of 6 percent, while Mike & Molly held steady-ish at 9.24 mil/2.9.
Opening CBS’ night, How I Met Your Mother was flat with 7.9 mil/3.0, while Hawaii Five-0 closed things with 8.8 mil/2.2, up 11 and 5 percent week-to-week.

Every now and then a film or television series comes along that has a long-lasting impact on its respective genre and sets a benchmark studios attempt to duplicate and improve upon. In the case of TV, there’s no doubt Friends carries on in how networks choose sitcoms and the style of humor they shoot for. If you doubt Friends’ influence, just look at the proliferation of the ‘20 and 30-somethings hanging out’ ensemble comedy that we have today: How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, The New Girl, Community, and Happy Endings. And while each of these new iterations on that concept has its unique twist, none have quite achieved the massive following that David Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc did as Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, and Joey. However, Friends wasn’t without fault, and its highs and lows are...

On the one hand, "How I Met Your Mother" gave Victoria a pretty good sendoff in Monday's (Nov. 5) episode: Her parting with Ted in "The Autumn of Breakups" was one of the more evenhanded, grown-up splits Ted has made with a non-Mother, non-Robin girlfriend in the show's history.
On the other hand, strong final scene aside, it's hard not to wonder why the show would make such a big deal out of Victoria's return only to under-use her so much.
As a whole, "The Autumn of Breakups" was not a very good episode of "Himym." The side stories -- Barney and his wing-dog, Marshall finding his inner Gayle King and Nick's tortured culinary catchphrases -- were scattershot at best, and the main story about Ted and Victoria realizing they weren't the ones for each other didn't feel like it had nearly enough foundation.
It's not that Victoria's request that Ted...

One of our "One Tree Hill" faves has landed another comedy guest spot. Danneel Ackles, who played mean-girl-with-a-heart-of-gold (as in gold digger) Rachel on the long-running CW series is set to appear on ABC's upcoming midseason comedy "How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life)."
The series follows Sarah Chalke's character, single working mom Polly, as she's forced to move back home with her parents after her divorce. It's further complicated by the fact that her parents (played by Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett) are extremely eccentric, free-love, sexually liberated types... and Polly is determined to raise her daughter in a more structured way.
Ackles plays Olivia, who Polly befriends and decides to set up with Julian (Jon Dore)... Polly's ex-husband. Awkward! In the first episode, Julian is described as an "unemployed gambler with a pasty-white beer belly" -- so he's not exactly a catch.

This year is the fifth season of ABC’s dramedy Castle, and one thing makes it stand out from the rest: Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic), after four seasons of romantic tension, are finally together.
“Will they or won’t they?” is the TV equivalent of “What came first: The chicken or the egg?” — everyone asks it, and no answer is for sure. But the question that should be asked more frequently in TV is, “Should they or shouldn’t they?”
Most series approach this crossroads. And many consequently fear the Moonlighting curse, which references the ABC’s 1980s crime drama and its decline in popularity once leads Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis got together.

Ouch. This past week certainly hasn’t been easy for those of us who are a little too unhealthily involved in the lives of television characters. Glee, How I Met Your Mother and Grey’s Anatomy all had major relationship shake-ups, just a few weeks into the fall season. (Spoiler Alert! for this past week’s episodes ahead). On Monday, after an episode-long tease over who exactly would break up, Barney and Quinn called it quits over on How I Met Your Mother. It was hard to feel too sad about that one, though, not with an ending that had...

Good morning!
Lea Seydoux talked with IndieWire about her role in the upcoming lesbian romance Blue. She said "it's a very dramatic love story." I think she pulls off the blue hair wonderfully.

Rizzoli & Isles is back November 27. That's something to be thankful for!
Four states are voting on marriage equality soon and if you know any one in Maine, Maryland, Washington or Minnesota, post this on your Facebook page or some equivalent so perhaps someone on the fence can watch it.
Out X-Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan said her grandfather didn't know she was gay until he read it on the Google. His response?
"We’ve got loads of grandchildren, one of them was bound to be gay.”

Perfect! I'm still searching for the other gay in my family. I can't be the only one!

Leaving the planet seems to have had little impact on Howard’s relationship with his mother, who still loudly beckons for her son in this promo for The Big Bang Theory’s upcoming season 6, which kicks off Sept. 27.
Back on Earth, however, there seems to be a little trouble with another pairing — Sheldon and Amy! We’d go into detail but it would ruin the myriad of emotions you’ll feel while watching their part in the promo below. Goes something like: “No!” “Aww!” “Wait.” “Oh, Sheldon.”

We hope you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Now that it's time to get back to work, Zap2it has 10 TV teasers to get your week started off right. Remember, it's a short week and your DVR is waiting for you.
This week, our Kickstart includes scoop on a spooky "Vampire Diaries" party, a tense "Suits" moment, and some serious "Sons of Anarchy" vengeance.
"The Vampire Diaries": Though we won't see the Mystic Falls gang celebrate Halloween this year, we'll definitely get into the spooky spirit of the holiday. Damon, Elena, and Bonnie will visit the nearby college where Bonnie's Grams used to teach -- and, yes, where Aunt Jenna was working on her degree. While on campus, they all get invited to a fraternity's annual "Murder House" party, where revelers dress up as their favorite murder victim or murderer. (The Ripper of Monterey, anyone?)

Good morning, Brewbies!
I'm glad you're here!
After Lea Michele tweeted a photo of herself and Chris Colfer reunited at last on the New York set of Glee, Vulture visited the set to see if the Kurt and Rachel Show is really turning into the long-fabled spin-off Ryan Murphy has been teasing since like 1998. Their verdict: Yeah, probably. And apparently things are a lot racier in a 9:00 timeslot outside of Ohio. The article mentions a lot of humping and grinding and hands headed "downtown" during Rachel's performance of "Oops! I Did It Again." It's Glee all grown/raunched-up.
Elsewhere in Lima: "When we wandered back to Brittany’s bedroom in Ohio, the track for Spears’s super sad break-up song “Everytime” kicked in. There was Heather Morris lying face-down on her bed, miserable without Santana, who’s far away and cheerleading for the University of Louisville.

"The Price Is Right" might be known for its sparkly prizes and beautiful ladies, but the show is revamping its format by launching a search for a male model.
CBS announced Monday that "The Price Is Right," currently hosted by actor/comedian Drew Carey, is searching for its first male model in nearly 40 years.
The male model search will air as part of a five-episode web series competition and fans will be able to vote online for their favorite hunk, according to the official website.
An open call is scheduled for Aug. 30 in Los Angeles.
Male model hopefuls will be judged on “qualities such as their verbal skills, posing and ability to properly showcase a product,” a press release revealed, according to Entertainment Weekly. The show's producers and female models will pick the six finalists.
Those six finalists will be revealed on Sept. 28, and viewers will then be able to vote online on PriceIsRight.

Ross, Joey, Rachel and the rest of the "Friends" gang seem to have invaded China.
The popular Chinese sitcom "Ipartment," which features a group of attractive 20-somethings who live in adjoining apartments in Shanghai and hang out in a coffee shop, is being accused of being a little too much like "Friends." One of the characters is even a university lecturer (Ross, anyone?)
"Is ['Ipartment'] only intended for those born after 1990, who have not watched 'Friends?'" a viewer wrote on Weibo, the "Chinese Twitter," according to the Global Times.
"We didn't copy the American sitcom," a show rep said in an interview with Southern Metropolis newspaper. "Comedies have stereotypes, like the handsome man, the gorgeous woman, the cheap man and so on. They have that in many comedies. Our creation is not plagiarism, but more a homage to the American sitcom."

I love Kenny Powers. I have done since the moment his foul mouthed mullet of a head came on screen courtesy of HBO. And with the third Season having only recently ended on the leviathan of a network, it seemed that this was the end. Yet last week HBO ordered more episodes of the successful comedy for a fourth season, but something just doesn’t feel right about it. And as much as I will be returning to watch whatever Danny McBride and Jody Hill have planned for Kenny and show-stealer Stevie Janowski, I will be doing so with trepidation.
In the shows first season Kenny had been dropped from the majors due to a number of factors, none more so than the fact he was overweight, over confident in an ability which had faded and that he had a penchant to do a lot of drugs and cause a lot of havoc.

Between now and June 28, the deadline for Emmy voters to return nomination ballots, EW.com is running a series called Emmy Watch, featuring highlight clips and interviews with actors, producers, and writers whom EW TV critic Ken Tucker has on his wish list for the nominations announcement on July 19.
How I Met Your Mother closed its seventh season on the top of its ratings game, ending the broadcast season with a 3.4 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic, its best stat since the ’08-’09 season. But can ratings success translate into Emmy success? Executive producer Craig Thomas isn’t so sure.

As we count down to tonight’s New Girl finale, it’s safe to say that roommates Jess and Nick (played by Zooey Deschanel and Jake Johnson) are making inroads to becoming one of TV’s great “will they/won’t they?” couples. Like Sam and Diane, Ross and Rachel, and Blair and Chuck before them, the chemistry between the new girl and the snarky bartender has reached a steady simmer this past season. Between lingering glances over the bathroom sink and an almost kiss, the two have gotten shippers all sorts of frothy over their opposites-attract dynamic.

This month's Vanity Fair includes an oral history of everyone's favorite ten-season sitcom, "Friends," an excerpt from former NBC president's upcoming book "Inside the Rise and Fall of Must See TV." And according to the piece, Monica Geller's sex life became something of an issue for the network -- specifically Don Ohlmeyer, NBC's West Coast president at the time.

Last Sunday’s penultimate Shameless of the season was off the hook! Any idea if we’ll ever see Ian’s very-random hook-up again? — Nick

Cooler still, unlike the Shameless’ first season, which ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger, Sunday’s second season ends on more of a positive note for those already dreading the interminable nine month wait until Season three.

As viewers, we've all had the experience of watching a show and just not connecting with a character. There are always going to be characters populating the dial that just annoy us. What can shows do to make these characters more palatable? How about embracing the very things people don't like?
On an episode of 30 Rock, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) tells a 127 Hours-esque story about ice climbing in which, after hurting his leg and getting stuck, he had to climb down into the crevasse to freedom. I bring this up not only because I relate to life almost exclusively through 30 Rock quotes, but because I've noticed TV show runners do the same with problematic characters. Instead of ignoring a character's irritating attributes, sometimes shows just turn right into the skid. When the narrative acknowledges flaws, those same flaws can become endearing parts of what make a character great.

In the world of reality television, Survivor is known as the show where contestants go to “outwit, outlast, and outplay.” But that wouldn’t seem like such a bad motto for the current season of The Bachelor. On Monday night’s installment, set in scenic Park City, Utah, Ben’s tongue made alliances with five other women’s tongues (Rachel, Kacie B, Courntey, Nicki, and Jennifer); a group date found an octet of bachelorettes fly-fishing for their survival; and two future spinsters had their love-torches brutally snuffed. Here’s a game. Who wrote the classic British sitcom The Office? And who wrote the classic American sitcom Friends?
Answers at the end please. Now let us begin.
Cup of tea. Check. Raining outside. A lot. Check. Feet up. Check. ‘Insert pet’ fed. Check. Put on the tele to watch something before you start your homework/drinking/both. Check.
What is on? Check now. How often can you put on the television and stumble across the middle of an episode of The Office, and just watch on until the end? Rarely. What about good old-fashioned British comedy like Rising Damp or Dad’s Army? Never. But what about Friends? Or Glee? Or The Big Bang Theory? Or How I Met Your Mother? Always. The difference? American.
From the outset I am a huge comedy fan of work from both sides of the Atlantic. I was brought up on Monty Python and Blazing Saddles.

Los Angeles -- Katy Perry is in the popular clique now.
The singer-actress won the most People's Choice Awards at Wednesday's 38th annual fan-favorite extravaganza, but viewers wouldn't have known it from watching the ceremony. An absentee Perry was honored in five categories, including favorite female artist, tour headliner, song of the year for "E.T." with Kanye West, music video for "Last Friday Night" and TV guest star for "How I Met Your Mother."
Despite originally being touted by the show's organizers as among the nominees expected to attend, Perry told fans on Twitter earlier this week that she wouldn't make it to the show but that "I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed!" It would have marked Perry's first public appearance since British actor-comedian Russell Brand filed for divorce from Perry last month after 14 months of marriage.
