Despite a best actress nomination for her brilliant turn as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in Jackie, Natalie Portman won't be at the Oscars tonight. No, it's not because she's joined Matt Damon in feuding with the award show's host, Jimmy Kimmel. The actress is currently in the late stages of her second pregnancy, so she'll likely be enjoying the Oscars from the comfort of her couch. "Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Independent Spirit Awards and the Academy Awards," she said in a statement. "I feel so lucky to be honored among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends." This is Natalie's third Oscar nomination, following her 2010 best actress win for Black Swan.

After the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences blew through this year's nominees in record time, we wouldn't fault you if you needed a second to recover from whiplash and get a quick refresher on who actually did get nominated. Do that here. And despite everything being mostly as predicted, there are certainly a few snubs and some big surprises. Let's get into 'em.

Sean Avery, the ex-nfl player who competed on season 18 of Dancing with the Stars, quit his off-Broadway play in dramatic fashion Tuesday night.

Avery, 34, made a hasty exit on Tuesday from Negative Is Positive after proving to be a volatile person to work with. On Monday, he stormed out of rehearsals, and by the next day he had a full-on meltdown and walked away from the off-Broadway show. “He’s a playwright’s worst nightmare,” Negative writer Christy Smith-Sloman told Page Six.
What set Avery off on Tuesday? An offer of pizza. A stage manager named Natalie asked the former athlete if he wanted a slice of pizza. He said no, and then after mistakenly hearing Natalie call him an a--hole, proceeded to flip out, according to Smith-Sloman.

The actress - who played Miranda Hillard in the 1993 comedy - said that her character's divorce from Robin Williams's Daniel could rule her out of appearing in the follow-up movie.
Asked about the sequel on The Late Show with David Letterman, she said: "I don't know. They didn't call me, but I was the mother that divorced [him], so she's probably off on the Al-Qaeda ranch somewhere."
However, she did suggest that she would be open to appearing in the film if she is asked to be involved.
When Letterman suggested that she won't be in the film, she replied: "Why? I don't know."
Last week, it was announced that Williams is set to reprise the role of Mrs Euphegenia Doubtfire, with Chris Columbus (Harry Potter) set to direct the film.

Captioning the picture, "Share your speedo shot #myspeedo @speedousa #jeah," the 29-year-old has clearly kept himself in great shape since winning five gold medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
The pic comes from the 184-lb athlete's behind-the-scenes look at his latest Speedo photo shoot, and he also posed alongside famous swimmers, Jessica Hardy, Nathan Adrian, Eddie Moses, Natalie Coughlin and Cullen Jones.
Lochte has high hopes to compete at the 2016 Olympics, and has also launched his own Florida based yogurt business in 2013, along with modeling careers with Vogue, Men's Health and Ralph Lauren.
Of his training regimen, Ryan told Team USA last summer, "I've always been able to separate my training from everything else. I just know I have a job to do in the pool and I won't let anything get in the way.

By the power of high-speed lifts, a close hold, love from their moms, and quite possibly Disney movie mind-control, Princess Jasmine and Wiladdin Wonka a.k.a. Meryl Davis and Charlie White have become the first U.S. Olympic champions in Ice Dancing. Their training companions, the Vancouver gold medalists and non-Disney characters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir of Canada, settled for silver. And Russian youth sorcerers Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov took the bronze after Monday’s finals in the Iceberg Skating Palace — indisputably the Planet Mirrorballus of Sochi, Russia.

12-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin knows a thing or two about staying physically fit. Even when she's not competing, the swimming champ loves to work out hard and is passionate about healthy eating. The California-native sticks to a mostly plant-based diet and even grows her own vegetables.
"My diet has been so important for me as a swimmer because I'm constantly tearing down my body-whether it's training five to six hours a day, competing or just running around and being busy," reveals Natalie to Healthy Hollywood.

Da Vinci's Demons spreads its wings tonight.

Patrick Duffy says he'd like to participate in a Step by Step reunion movie and that it would be interesting to see how the Lambert family grew up. I just hope such a series spawns a serious topical drama that desperately adds a laugh track when ratings tank, giving the Tgif generation a The Bradys of their own.
You've seen me complain that the dark side of a golden age of television is a too-full DVR that make it challenging to keep up with all the good shows (as well as the guilty pleasures and hate watching) available. It also means that shows like Southland and Switched at Birth don't quite get the attention they deserve. I'm still looking for time to get caught up on Game of Thrones, much less time to get to that third episode of Top of the Lake.

First it sounded like genius, then absolute madness. Deadline reports that ABC is thinking of giving Once Upon a Time's Mad Hatter a spin-off. The project hit a wall when it turned out that Sebastian Stan was unavailable to commit to a series... so then ABC decided it could just recast Sebastian Stan. Really, ABC? Really?
At this point, I'm willing to recommend just about any article that praises Enlightened, a difficult-to-love show from Mike White that's completely worth the effort. It may be great, but it's future remains a big question mark, which is frustrating because, as the Av Club explains it, Enlightened is TV's best show right now.

Actors are calling up hair and makeup to make videos in support of the president – while Romney cancels on The View. Oops
In today's political celebrity news: while Mitt Romney cancelled a planned appearance on The View, a show he previously described as "high-risk because of the five women on it, only one is conservative, and four are sharp-tongued and not conservative", the ladies of Hollywood have been busy making endorsement videos for Barack Obama.
It's good for us to remember that actors are people too. And if they care about our country enough to call hair and makeup and recite a few lines in front of a camera, we say go for it, good citizens of Los Angeles.
The videos, most of which can be seen on the Barack Obama YouTube channel, range in quality from the sappy, highly produced and musically scored to a couple that I could...

Ryan Lochte's been lobbying for a spot on Dancing With the Stars, and sure — he seems like a good choice to shimmy around and delight the grandmas of America. Plus, Olympians love DWtS: Apollo Anton Ohno, Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson, Evan Lysacek, Hope Solo, Maurice Green, Natalie Coughlin, and Misty May-Treanor have all done the show. But why stop there, when there are so many other ways to be on TV? Lochte's just one of many, many athletes coming out of London with buzz and fame that can only mean one thing: reality television. Here, we help these budding entertainers leave the dignity of sport for the degradation of having to do "confessionals."Oscar Pistorius Should Be The Bachelor Especially now that Lochte says he's not interested. For many an athlete, there is no greater honor than representing your country in an Olympics.
And success at one of these events can be a life-changing experience, in the form of professional contracts (assuming they're still amateurs), commercial endorsements and universal respect. Some can even wind up set for life off their performance during one 17-day span.
And nearly all of them will tell you their first time standing on the podium receiving their medal while their national anthem plays is an overwhelming experience, one that goes by like a blur.

In the first few days of the Olympics, the London games have already been marred by racism-tweeting athletes, cheating Badminton players and black-eye-distributing female soccer players. But the biggest controversy might just turn out to be one that may not exist.
Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen, 16, has been as on fire as someone can be while in water, taking gold in the 400-meter medley on Saturday and breaking the world record by a full second - even kicking things up during the final 50 meters to beat the speed of men's gold medalist Ryan Lochte. On Monday, she returned - and set the Olympic record for the 200-meter individual medley. Naturally, with any such performance these days comes an allegation best summed up in a word and a punctuation mark: Steroids?

The second day of the London 2012 Olympics was filled with more teeth-clenching and heart-wrenching moments than last night’s episode of True Blood.
