In 2020, campaigning at the height of the global pandemic, the Biden campaign leaned heavily on influencers to reach young voters. Republican rivals called it a cop out — they said Biden was “hiding in his basement” — but it was hard to argue with the results of that social media-intensive strategy: Biden won voters under the age of 29 by a 26-point margin.
In 2024, the Biden campaign is doubling down, with plans to add even more than the roughly two dozen staffers who worked on the campaign’s influencer program in 2020. But this time around,...

When you think of places with baller PR strategies, the White House probably isn’t the first that comes to mind.
But it’s trying to change that–and Christian Tom, President Biden‘s Director of the White House Office of Digital Strategy, thinks content creators are the key.
Tom was a Biden campaign staffer during the 2020 election, and was responsible for the campaign’s digital strategy, which included things like giving hundreds of content creators access to the White House for filming opps and info briefs, a partnership with Portal A to deploy a pro-Biden “#ImVotingFor” sweep on Instagram and Twitter (with upward of 100 creators...

The latest U.S. lawmaker to interact with politically-minded creators is Ro Khanna. The U.S. Congressman (D-ca) hosted a live stream that took place outside the White House and included input from streamers like Vaush and Emma Vigeland.
The three-hour stream ranged across hot-button issues like climate change, affordable housing, and student debt. The influencers joined Khanna in groups, with Vaush (real name Ian Kochinski) and Vigeland helping the Congressman kick off his broadcast.
The creators who linked up with Khanna are some of the strongest political voices on platforms like Twitch. Vaush has made headlines thanks to the lively debates he’s engaged in on social media. According to The Washington Post, another creator who met with Khanna in D.C. is Clara “Keffals” Sorrenti, who has used her platform to fight back against transphobic trolls.

When VidCon makes its East Coast debut in Baltimore, its first keynote speaker will come from just down the road. Christian Tom, an official Assistant to the President and the Director of the White House Office of Digital Strategy, will share some opening remarks to kick off VidCon Baltimore.
Tom will use his keynote to share details about his office’s creator partnerships and influencer-focused campaigns. The Biden administration has used digital platforms to appeal to young voters since the 2020 campaign. After moving into the White House, President Biden continued to court TikTok stars — even as he mulled a federal ban on that same app.
“Our efforts to reach all Americans online are rooted in meeting people where they are. This increasingly means not only by creating White House content from White House channels, but also working with a wide range of creators, on topics that matter to them and their audiences,...

San Francisco, Jan 20 (Ians) The Joe Biden team has launched a Snapchat lens that will virtually take users to the Capitol Hill as the new US president is sworn-in on Wednesday.
The Snapchat lens will also play a message from Biden addressing Snapchatters: "Hey Snapchat!! It's me, Joe. Welcome to inauguration!"
"Once the inaugural lens is selected in the Snapchat reel, users can take a selfie in front of the Capitol as confetti falls from above," reports The Verge.
If users flip the camera around, they'll be greeted by a Biden Jumbotron in front of a crowd of inauguration attendees.
The lens will also direct users to a live stream of the inauguration event.
"This year's inauguration has allowed us to create new, innovative, and creative tools for Americans across the country to participate in inaugural traditions and ceremonies while staying home to keep everyone safe," said Christian Tom, digital...

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is apparently so big with potential voters that 2020 presidential candidates want in. Starting right now, players can scan a Qr code to add Joe Biden/Kamala Harris yard signs to their islands. Currently, users can download four different yard signs through the Nintendo Switch Online App. You can check out a guide to how to find Qr codes for the game and download them here.
The news was first reported by The Verge, who spoke to the Biden campaign about its Animal Crossing plans.
“Animal Crossing is a dynamic, diverse, and powerful platform that brings communities together from across the world. It is an exciting new opportunity for our campaign to engage and connect Biden-Harris supporters as they build and decorate their islands,” Christian Tom, director of digital partnerships for the Biden campaign, told The Verge. “As we enter the final campaign stretch towards November, this...
