- With the money made from booking a national print ad for Finishline (2004), Portis invested in music production equipment. Calls his style of music U2pachabel--a blend of hip-hop, classic piano, and 80's rock.
- Portis earned a degree in Chemistry at Cornell College in 2002.
- Can solve a Rubik's Cube in 59.22 seconds. Solved a 5x5x5 rubik's the first time he picked it up.
- Initially, known for being a player for Team Bling on Extreme Dodgeball (2004). Also slated to return for Season 3 (mid 2005).

- While waiting for some friends at Old Navy, in Cedar Rapids, Portis was approached by the same agent that discovered `Ashton Kutcher'. He also participated in the Fresh Faces of Iowa (2000) three years after Kutcher, but did not win.
- Favorite movie of all time is The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). Incidentally, his favorite director is Wes Anderson and his favorite composer is Mark Mothersbaugh . Hershey's favorite song is in the film, "Mothersbaugh's Canon."

- Worked with director, Dave Meyers, twice. Once in a music video and another time in a Playstation Portable commercial. Both times, Portis was getting his hair braided.

- Has never drank alcohol or smoked. And though he may portray a smoker or a drinker in a film, he has vowed never to endorse them in ads.
- Is addicted to jigsaw puzzles.
