After retiring as a player, he became an NHL broadcaster, known for phrases such as "Jiminy Cricket," "Golly gee willikers" and "Stop it right there!".
He won rookie of the year honors in 1947 after scoring 27 goals and 45 points in 55 games.
He won four Stanley Cups with the Toronto Maple Leafs (1947, 1948, 1949 and 1951), and was the oldest living Leaf.
Also member of Can. Parliament for Waterloo South 25 (June 1951 - 9 August 1953).
Meeker was a noted advocate for better quality protective hockey equipment for children.
