- After retiring as a player, he became an NHL broadcaster, known for phrases such as "Jiminy Cricket," "Golly gee willikers" and "Stop it right there!".
- He won rookie of the year honors in 1947 after scoring 27 goals and 45 points in 55 games.
- He won four Stanley Cups with the Toronto Maple Leafs (1947, 1948, 1949 and 1951), and was the oldest living Leaf.
- Also member of Can. Parliament for Waterloo South 25 (June 1951 - 9 August 1953).
- Meeker was a noted advocate for better quality protective hockey equipment for children.
