- Yilmaz Karakoyunlu served as minister of state of Turkey from 2001 to 2002.

- Karakoyunlu graduated from Diyarbakir Ziya Gökalp High School and Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences (1959).
- He attended Vezneciler Altinci Primary School and the secondary class at Pertevniyal High School.
- He was a Turkish writer and politician.
- The film Salkim Hanimin Taneleri, based on his novel, won the Best Film Award at the Antalya Golden Orange Festival.
