Dylan Dreyer’s big announcement while on NBC’s Today left her at a loss for words later.
The meteorologist and host for Today’s 3rd Hour appeared alongside her colleagues Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, and Al Roker to share her news.
“Well, this is a very special morning. Not only because of Caitlin Clark’s possible big thing, but we’ve got a big announcement from Dylan,” Roker said as others clapped and cheered.
“Her new bestselling Misty series has the latest installment. This one is called Misty the Cloud: The Thing About Spring,” he said.
Dreyer then spoke about how she loves the Step Into Reading books because her son Calvin is reading them, and another of her sons is close to starting to read them.
She described her latest book as good for kindergarten and first-grade-level readers, as it has simple sentences, simple words, and easy-to-understand concepts.

Eva Longoria has been selected to receive the Ruderman Family Foundation’s annual honor recognizing prominent cultural figures who do advocacy work on behalf of the disabled.
Longoria founded the organization Eva’s Heroes in 2006 to help those with intellectual disabilities. The cause is personal to Longoria, whose older sister Liza was born with an intellectual disability. In 2012, Longoria also established the Eva Longoria Foundation to help advocate for Latino women through education and entrepreneurship.
“I’m so honored to be recognized as the recipient of this year’s Morton E. Ruderman Award. My older sister Liza was born with an intellectual disability, so my mom instilled in all of us early on the importance of giving back to our community, which is why I founded Eva’s Hereos to provide a platform to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities around the country,” said Longoria.

"Suits" continues to have a monumental run over on Netflix, having just eclipsed "Ozark" for the record of most consecutive weeks at number one at the top of the Nielsen ratings. During the show's initial nine-season run on USA Network, the legal drama's popularity attracted a number of actors who helped share the spotlight with the core cast to help bolster ratings and fill in new storylines. Throughout the series, appearances from legendary athletes like Charles Barkley and Michael Phelps ended up happening after both of them made it clear that they were huge fans of the show on social media. Adding fresh faces to interact with the cast isn't always a slam dunk, however, and a quick cameo from the wrong actor or celebrity could end up throwing off the natural chemistry and subtle alchemy between the main stars of the show.
Thankfully, "Suits" or its spinoff show "Pearson" never ran into that problem,...

The new streamer will top out at $20 per month, and offers a wide range of sports from football to gymnastics.
It can be very difficult to find youth sports on even the most sports-forward streaming platforms. Services like Nfhs Network do a terrific job of streaming high school sports, but for lower levels of competition there simply aren’t that many services out there carrying a large selection.
NBC’s new SportsEngine Play is now available. Service offers “more than 30,000 youth sports organizations.” Users can access video editing tools to help create their own highlight reels.
NBC Sports Next, a subsidiary of NBC Sports has created a new streaming platform to help fill this programming gap. The streamer is called SportsEngine Play, and it offers live youth sports games, instructional videos from pro athletes like Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Phelps, and Maria Sharapova, and much more.

Forget the NFL or NBA, NBC is betting that the next big thing in streaming might be your local high school football game.
The media giant is launching a new streaming service that’s part ESPN+, part YouTube and part MasterClass, meant to appeal to families, schools and communities with amateur sports teams.
The service, SportsEngine Play, will stream live matches from amateur teams (think high schools, etc.). The company says it has 90 cameras installed in 85 venues; however, coaches or spectators can also stream matches live to the service via their own smartphones or iPads, and NBC Sports is trying to encourage as many schools and coaches as possible to take advantage of the streaming capabilities.
Matches will also be available on-demand.
The service will also launch with complementary content featuring professional athletes, a MasterClass-esque offering with guides for specific sports and general advice for dealing with pressure or mental health,...

NBC Sports Next, a subsidiary of NBC Sports focused on golf as well as youth and amateur sports, has launched a new streaming outlet called SportsEngine Play.
The service is billed by the company as the first of its kind, providing a range of live and on demand video of youth and amateur sporting events and filling a void in a growing sector of American corporate and social life. While a number of digital players offer various features for youth and amateur team members and families, the market is fragmented and social media giants hosting youth sports video don’t offer bespoke services. SportsEngine Play, which is created on a foundation built by NBC Sports, is aiming to be a centralized hub for organizations, leagues, coaches and parents.
Recent estimates from analysts have pegged the global youth sports market at more than $37 billion, which is twice the size of the NFL.

Four years ago - before Flyana Boss were running across our TikTok FYPs with their viral hit "You Wish" and rapping about "sugar, spice, Kanekalon, and cinnamon" - the formidable duo were just two ordinary besties living in Los Angeles. But Bobbi Lanea and Folayan, hailing from Detroit and Dallas, respectively, knew they were "a match made in heaven" from the moment they met at LA music college Musicians Institute. "We just loved each other," Lanea tells Popsugar. "We thought each other were funny and talented and we're like, 'Oh, this is so cute.'"
After realizing they were bonded by more than just music, Flyana Boss decided to take their friendship to the next level and declared themselves the next big act to run the music game.
"Now, we do everything together," Folayan says. This includes molding their imaginative "Flyana Boss universe," which has skyrocketed in more ways than one.

Fall Out Boy hit the stage during the MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night to perform their updated version of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”
The rock group released the song earlier this summer, writing new lyrics for Joel’s iconic hit song, which included references to significant events that happened from the years 1949 to 1989, including everything from the Cold War to the cola wars and Joseph Stalin to John F. Kennedy.
Fall Out Boy’s version covers the years from 1989 to 2023 and references Iron Man, MIchael Phelps, Taylor Swift, Colin Kaepernick, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, MySpace and the deaths of George Floyd, Prince and Queen Elizabeth, among other topics.
Bebe Rexha introduced the band at the VMAs, which are airing live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center. During the show, Fall Out Boy — decked out in suits — performed outside the arena on a stage filled with flames.

Naomi Osaka was part of a panel at this year's US Open that included legendary Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, and she admitted that she was selfish during the press conference drama.
Osaka created a lot of drama at the 2021 Roland Garros by refusing to speak to the media to protect her mental health. It created a lot of drama for everybody involved as the event promised fines for Osaka for every skipped one while other players were asked questions about it.
Eventually, Osaka decided to remove herself from the equation and withdraw from the event because of it. She spoke about it a few times since then , regretting the choices she made there while still being proud of speaking up about herself.
She's become an advocate for Athlete's mental health, a very overlooked part of sports and the human experience. Public figures like Osaka speaking up about it destigmatize the topic,...

Exclusive: The skies are cloudy over LA and still thick over NYC today, but for over 1,000 studio and “struck companies” staffers their Black List membership just went dark.
In support of the Writers Guild of America’s over one-month long strike, the Franklin Leonard founded platform has suspended the access that approximately 1,300 have to its services. In addition, the nearly 20-year-old script curation organization has slashed material fees for writers until their battle with the studios and streamers is resolved with a new deal.
“Writers remain the most undervalued constituents of the film and television ecosystem, and it should be unsurprising that the Black List backs them in their pursuit of equitable pay and protections reflecting their vital and economically significant contributions to the industry,” Leonard told Deadline today. “When writers win, the entire industry wins.”

Amid an industry overwhelmed by an ongoing writers’ strike and a push to streaming, the notion of genuine independent cinema is as fragile as ever.
With the streamers cutting costs and focusing on content that large swathes of viewers might actually watch, the content for content’s sake spending booms that allowed indie cinema to temporarily flourish seems to have come to an end. Is all hope lost?
In a recent panel hosted exclusively by TheWrap, titled “The State of Independent Filmmaking,” Franklin Leonard argued that while investing in independent film if widely considered a financial risk or act of altruism, his work as founder of The Black List has proven that the opposite is true. The best screenplay is the best business plan.

Rounding up the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, as voted on by hundreds of film executives, The Black List has been a strong resource to clue one in on projects to potentially anticipate, but first, to kickstart Hollywood on bringing them to screen. Today we have this year’s edition, as voted on by over 300 film executives.
Topping the 2022 edition is Catherine Schetina’s Pure, with a logline as follows: “Obsessed with food purity, Hannah’s trip to her sister’s destination wedding descends into madness when she contracts a mysterious foodborne illness that threatens to destroy her from within.”
Other scripts feature a look at the employees of Four Seasons Total Landscaping on November 7, 2020, the makings of It’s a Wonderful Life and the Madden videogame, a dark comedy about the Hindenburg Disaster, biopics on Dolly Parton, Michael Phelps, and Jerry Springer, and quite a heaping of sci-fi stories.

Scripts about Dolly Parton’s rise to fame (Todd Bartels & Lou Howe’s Dumb Blonde) and a musical drama about the life of Britney Spears (Cerina Aragones’ It’s Britney, Bitch) are among the 2022 Black List of Hollywood’s most liked unproduced screenplays.
This year’s Black List was compiled from the suggestions of more than 300 film executives, contributing the names of up to ten favorite feature film screenplays that were written in. Scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included.
The most voted-for script is Pure from The Bear writer Catherine Schetina, with other top-voted scripts including Pizza Girl by Jean Kyoung Frazier. Other entries include features about Four Seasons Total Landscaping, the small business made famous after the 2020 presidential election, the making of the holiday classic It’s a Wonderful Life, and the post-Olympics life of swimmer Michael Phelps.

The Black List revealed its annual list of the best unproduced screenplays on Monday, honoring 74 feature film screenplays by a total of 80 writers that have spent the year circulating through Hollywood. Scripts were voted on by a jury of over 300 top film executives.
“It is absolutely staggering that this is my 18th December asking people about their favorite unproduced screenplays, but the success of Black List scripts and the writers we’ve spotlit speaks for itself, I think,” Black List founder Franklin Leonard said in a statement. “However unacknowledged, the life blood of this industry has always been great stories well-told, and that begins with great writers writing. No one can do anything else until they do what they do. It remains an absolute nerdy joy to build a metal detector that finds needles in a near infinite field of haystacks and to serve those folks who do exceptional work.

A week after Young Thug used his Twitter account to ask Olympic champion Michael Phelps if he could swim a hundred miles in the ocean – and Phelps hilariously responded that he could – Georgia prosecutors successfully used the exchange to win a clampdown on evidence shared in the Grammy-winning rapper’s Rico case.
Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams, dictated the “innocent” tweet over a recorded jail line to a friend who controls his social media, defense lawyer Brian Steel told a judge Thursday after prosecutors invoked the tweet at a hearing in Georgia.

Chicago – Mental health and sports have been in the spotlight the last couple of years. The high profile breakdowns of tennis star Naomi Osaka and Olympian Simone Biles, as well as the confessions of swimmer Michael Phelps, has drawn scrutiny towards sports and mindful stress. Director Darryl Roberts explores this in his new doc, “I’m Fine, (Not) Really.”
“I’m Fine, (Not) Really “ is a documentary about the mental health struggles that elite athletes suffer when criticized in the media or in experiencing negative fan interaction. It has been only recently that athletes have become vocal about their emotional issues and the added pressure of toxic fans, whose causes range from a lack of empathy in a society that teaches athletes to “walk it off,” to the ever-increasing escalation of sports as a lifestyle and culture. Mental health experts believe that healing can begin only when sports figures speak out,...

This first-time director’s tale is about an Australian kid heading for the Olympic trials who also has to deal with violent family
It’s a generic title, and this brooding Australian indie sports drama itself feels a bit generic: you’ll probably guess the ending seven minutes into the movie. Still, it’s well-acted, particularly by Levi Miller who plays 15-year-old swimming prodigy Benjamin, known to everyone as “Boy” – a transcendent athlete gifted with Michael Phelps levels of talent. Miller impressively looks the part: strong legs, broad back, shoulders as wide as the Sydney Harbour Bridge. What’s more, he manages to bring a spark of personality to a character who for chunks of the movie is a super-focused obsessive swimming machine.
The film begins four months before the Olympics trials. Scouts from an elite sports institute in Brisbane are sniffing around; but then Boy’s dad Rob (Jason Isaacs...

As has become Olympics tradition, NBC has spent every night of its primetime coverage unveiling the stories of top U.S. athletes like it’s selling a weepy drama about their lives. Figure skater Nathan Chen came to Beijing to banish bad memories of his last botched Olympics, the humiliating clip of which NBC will whip out at a moment’s notice to underline his plight. Biathlete Leif Nordgren had to meet his new daughter virtually, live on air, as he blinked back tears. Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin is trying to mount a comeback through debilitating grief over the recent death of her father, whose grin always used to wait for her beyond the finish line. For NBC, these segments represent “heartwarming” tales of resilience and pride, especially if the athletes involved manage to beat the odds and land a medal. When they don’t, the dial turns to “heartbreaking...

With her recent Tokyo Olympic wins, Katie Ledecky is on her way to catching Michael Phelps's medal record. On July 27, the 24-year-old became the first-ever gold medalist in the women's 1,500-meter freestyle final at the Tokyo Olympics. This is the first time that women have been able to compete in the 1,500-meter race, although it's been a men's event since the 1908 Summer Olympics. Her recent win brings her career Olympic medals to a total of 10, with six of them being for individual events. Katie now has more individual Olympic gold medals than any other woman in the history of the sport.
"Thank you, Tokyo, and thank You All for the tremendous support this week and over the years to get to this point," Katie said in a post on Instagram. Teammates Natalie Hinds and Lilly King then showed their support for Katie on their Instagram Stories, while former Olympian...

Michael Phelps Supports Simone Biles After Her Olympics Team Competition Withdrawal "Broke My Heart"
Michael Phelps has a lot on his mind after Simone Biles' surprising withdrawal from the women's gymnastics team final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 36-year-old swimming icon spoke to NBC's Mike Tirico on Tuesday, July 27, where the 23-time gold medalist offered compassionate support to Simone following her decision to exit the team competition earlier in the day. Her exit came after she suffered an uncharacteristic misstep on her vault routine. "The Olympics is overwhelming," Michael shared. "There's a lot of emotions that go into it. Michael Phelps may be the most decorated Olympian of all time, but even he's afraid of Katie Ledecky. In fact, during his Olympics commentary on Sunday, Phelps admitted the 24-year-old U.S. superstar swimmer would've wiped the floor with him in 2016.
Phelps, the greatest male swimmer of all time, has been serving as both a commentator and correspondent for NBC at the Tokyo Olympics, giving his insights on the biggest races in the pool. And though Ledecky ended up taking silver in the 400m freestyle on Sunday, Phelps said "she's the Goat" right now, even compared to him.
"I had the privilege to train with her at the last training camp, in 2016. I'm very happy that she didn't do the exact set with us that day because she would've destroyed me," Phelps said with a laugh. "Oh my gosh, her long course, when she trains -- oh, she's incredible."
