“Call of Duty Black Ops 4” won’t have a single-player campaign, instead developers Treyarch are betting on three zombies mode, a multiplayer mode and battle royale mode, the company announced Thursday.
“It doesn’t have a traditional campaign, instead we’re weaving that into each of the modes,” said Treyarch chairman Mark Lamia.
The game was revealed Thursday in a hanger packed with 900 fans, influencers and press, in an event that was streamed live around the world.
A massive screen counted down to the reveal and after a moment of darkness the three massive screens that lined one wall of the hanger went through a brief video history of the “Black Ops” games.
The event kicked off with Lamia talking about the nearly ten-year history of the “Black Ops Call of Duty” games and how the developer was able to achieve so much, test so many boundaries because of the...

Even now, three months following the November launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops III, it’s still a little odd to see the franchise favoring the PlayStation 4. As part of the agreement between series publisher Activision and Sony, all Dlc for the title will be launching for the top-selling console first, including the Awakening map pack, which is now available.
Following in the footsteps of previous Dlc for the franchise, Awakening brings four new multiplayer maps and a brand new Zombie adventure to Black Ops III. Developer Treyarch, who were responsible for the previous two Black Ops entries, are once again ready to showcase their map-making prowess, and Studio Head Mark Lamia opened up about their commitment to the game over the course of 2016.

Fan favorite map Nuk3town will be heading to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
For those that played, or probably still play, Black Ops and Black Ops 2 there was one map in particular that everyone loved to play, Nuketown. It was a small one dimensional map with a nuked backdrop, and even a song that could be unlocked. In 2 it was re-imagined as Nuketown 2023. Well you should be happy to know it is returning in BO3.
The map will be set in the year 2065 and be revamped to suit the new game mechanics of BO3, which include the new jumping and suit mechanics. You probably played the beta so you would know, right?
How do you get your hands on it? Well it's going to start out as a pre-order bonus. Those that pre-order or get the game on day one will get an in-box code to unlock the map.

With the Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer beta uprooting from PlayStation platforms and making the jump to Xbox, Treyarch and Activision have revealed some interesting statistics from the early bout of testing. For one, both publisher and developer revealed that the beta now stands as the largest ever to grace PlayStation platforms, where it debuted as per the new-fangled licensing agreement between Sony and the IP’s parent company, Activision.
Granted, both parties were light on specifics, though reportedly “millions” partook in the Black Ops III vertical slice while it was live last week. In fact Treyarch even extended the length of the testing for an extra day on PlayStation platforms, which likely had a marked impact on these final numbers.
Here’s the official word from Treyarch’s Studio Boss, Mark Lamia:

Check out the latest Call Of Duty a little early by playing the beta today on PS4, and Xbox One/PC a little later.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 beta has begun today exclusively to PS4 due to a new deal between Sony and Activision. The beta on PS4 will run from today until August 23. Xbox One players and PC players will get their chance starting August 26 until August 30. The beta will not happeon on Xbox 360 or PS3.
If you want for sure access to either groups then you can pre-order the game and get a code. There are other outlets such as contests. I may suggest pre-ordering at Amazon if you insist on not paying 5 dollars up front.
The beta includes three maps and 7 game modes, but Treyarch keeps stressing that 7 is the minimum, so we may see more before the beta ends.

It’s a story we’ve no doubt heard in the past, but Treyarch has claimed that Call of Duty: Black Ops III will boast the franchise’s most complex, engaging plot to date – one that will even boast its own in-game wiki to chart the lore.
Mark Lamia, Studio Head at Treyarch, underlined the ways in which Black Ops III pushes the franchise forward in a recent interview Polygon, claiming that threequel will herald some of the best storytelling and fiction of the franchise thus far.
“We create a very rich fiction. We look at Black Ops 2 and say, ‘Ok, these drone strikes in 2025 occurred. What happens next in the world?’,” said Lamia. “We have a detailed wiki-like thing in the game. You might remember. You could hack into the computer in Black Ops. It’s in your safe house.
“It’s in your safe house. We have detailed out the world.

The Call of Duty video game franchise celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, and it remains a popular choice among fans of first-person shooters. The newest title in the series--Black Ops III--is set to debut in November 2015, and in order to stay relevant in a changing video game landscape, the development team at Treyarch is looking online. In a recent edition of the Official Xbox Magazine, Treyarch developer Dan Bunting explained how the rise of gaming videos on sites like YouTube and Twitch have influenced his team’s decisions.
"I’d be lying if I said that [the emergence of video platforms such as Twitch and YouTube] didn’t factor into Black Ops III’s design," said Bunting. "Now, we have to think not just about whether our game is fun to play, but also what it’s like to watch." As GamesRadar notes, that comment is similar to previous statements from Mark Lamia, Treyarch’s studio head, who...

When Modern Warfare introduced experience-based progression and the prestige system all those years ago, Call of Duty‘s RPG credentials were all but set in stone, as Activision’s blockbuster franchise incorporated a lot of the genre’s tropes to ensure its shooter was chock full of replayability. Now, almost a decade later, Treyarch is setting out to bolster the customization options by allowing players to chose which gender the play as in Call of Duty: Black Ops III‘s main campaign.
This new addition is much more than just a palette swap, too, with the studio revealing that animations and Npc interactions have been retooled to suit both male and female players.
“It’s not just a female head on a male body. It’s a different set of animations for the entire game,” studio head Mark Lamia revealed. “We knew we were going to do fully unique male,...

While it raised its putrid, reanimated head in last year’s Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops III will mark the return of the feature’s founding father, as Treyarch will be bringing back its unique take on the series’ beloved Zombies Mode come November.
In fact, the studio even went so far as to say that the survival-based mode boasts enough content to be a fully-featured game in itself, with a “full, player Xp based progression system” adding to the intoxicating gameplay loop that has ensured its enduring popularity. Speaking during a briefing, Treyarch’s studio head Mark Lamia touched upon Black Ops III‘s Zombies Mode, and all of the new-fangled bells and whistles it will herald.
“Black Ops Zombies will have its own full, player Xp based progression system. That will add even more depth and replayability to what was already an inherently and really replayable mode.

As promised, Activision has lifted the curtain on the first very gameplay clip for this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III, dragging the blistering action that has become synonymous with the franchise into a dark and cybernetic future – one in which technology is king.
The year is 2056. Mankind, having harnessed the power of bleeding-edge tech, has revolutionzed the battlefield and its inhabitants by blurring the line between man and machine. Such an approach has essentially transformed humans into weapons for hire, incorporating tech such as retina implants, DNA upgrades and robotic, superpowered limbs. As such, fans of the blockbuster series can expect a great many changes to the gameplay set-up of Call of Duty, as Treyarch – taking the reigns off of Sledgehammer Games following Advanced Warfare – look to push the series further into the future.
However, Black Ops III will also be taking cues from the studio’s track record; specifically,...

Tomorrow, Treyarch will officially reveal Zombies Mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. To hold us over for the next 24 hours, they’ve released the first screenshots. As reported earlier, it is rumored that Zombies will see it’s own single player or co-op campaign. Whether or not this is all new content or modified versions of the regular single player game are unknown.
Here are some details about Zombies development and a comment that suggests we’ll see an 8-player Zombies Mode:
Treyarch’s Mark Lamia: “[We have given the] zombie team free reign to do pretty much whatever they want with the mode regardless of the direction the campaign is headed in… It’s a totally different frame of mind when you sitting down to play zombies. It’s you and your friends and its coop and it’s blasting Zombies….Black Ops II has the most ambitious zombies that we have ever created.

If you've played Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer there's a good chance you're familiar with Nuketown. You may even be one of the many who've pegged this map as their favorite. After all, it is the most played Black Ops map ever. In fact, it became so popular that Treyarch created Nuketown 24/7, so the fun never had to end.
There were rumors that the famous Nuketown would be making a return in Call of Duty: Black Ops II and earlier today Activision confirmed that the rumors were in fact true. That's right, “Nuketown 2025” will be a downloadable pre-order incentive.
"Multiplayer fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops Love Nuketown," said Mark Lamia, Studio Head of Treyarch. "Flat out, Nuketown was a blast to play before, and we're excited about the reimagined Nuketown 2025 in Call of Duty: Black Ops II. We can't wait to play with everyone come this November.

The single player campaigns of recent Call of Duty titles have been notable for their content but are usually lacking in terms of length. Multiplayer is very much at the fore of the modern military shooter, but it appears that in the future depicted by Black Ops 2, this rather unfortunate trend has been addressed.
Mark Lamia, the studio head of Treyarch, has admitted that previous solo campaigns have been relatively short, and in an interview with The Guardian has revealed that they plan to add meaningful replayability to their upcoming title:
“There is something that multiplayer has, but the campaign hasn’t had so much of: replayability,” said Lamia. “If you look at the Strikeforce levels, and you look at us going after choice and sandbox gameplay, what it does is put replayability inside the campaign.
“Look at the branching storylines: all these things, I believe, will drive people who...

When it comes to “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2″, my biggest question is how Treyarch is going to change-up (if any) the game’s multiplayer play. Campaigns are fine, but campaigns tend to be one-and-done, while the online multiplayer has been the key to the success of the Call of Duty titles for a while now, since every game you hop into is essentially an all new game, depending on who you are up against. Until we learn more about the multiplayer element, find out how “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2″ was made. Basically, lots of people at computers clicking mouses and keyboards and such. I’m pretty sure that’s the full extent of game developing. I could be wrong, of course. Treyarch head Mark Lamia and the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 development team discuss their motivations heading into this exciting entry in the Call of Duty franchise.

Los Angeles (AP) — Is the Wii U right for you?
At last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Nintendo captured most of the spotlight by unveiling the Wii's successor, a high-definition console called the Wii U that utilizes a tablet-like touchscreen controller. Attention alone wasn't enough to declare a victory. Folks weren't, well, feeling it. Critical reaction was mixed, and the Japanese gaming giant's stock dropped.
"Nintendo has an uphill battle this year," said Morgan Webb, co-host of the G4 gaming show "X-Play." ''It's really a branding problem. I think a lot of people are still confused about the Wii U. They're going to have a hard time convincing people that this could be a better gaming experience than the iPad."
At this year's E3 convention in Los Angeles next week, Nintendo Co. will attempt to assuage such concerns by introducing gamers to titles that will be available for Wii U...

Last week it was announced that the new Black Ops game is gearing up to hit your game consoles this winter. With that announcement there have been details on the game plus artwork that have now gone viral. The upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops II is set in the future of 2025, and of course, the ever popular “zombie” mode has returned.
In my opinion, you can thank Black Ops for the resurgence of zombie killing in games within the past few years. With franchises like Resident Evil leaning towards a more dark magic influence on its characters and games like Left 4 Dead focused more on melee, Black Ops chose another direction to go. Already popular with the fans of 1st person shooter games like Halo, Call of Duty, the game was smart to unleash its zombie pack for horror fans. It allowed fans of two genres in gaming to co-exist as one.

Last week, Activision and Treyarch announced their plans to release Call of Duty: Black Ops II on November 13, 2012 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and the announcement came with the launch of the official Call of Duty: Black Ops II website and a new reveal trailer.
Then later in the week, it was announced that the highly popular Zombie Mode would make its way into the new game in some form as well. If that wasn't enough to get you excited for the game, a number of special pre-order incentives were placed on numerous websites across the Internet for purchasing the game early with these companies. However, Gamestop seems to be currently offering the most bang for your buck by allowing customers to unlock waves of pre-order bonuses for reserving early.

Earlier this week, Activision officially revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Developed by Treyarch, segments of the game will be set during a fictional cold war in 2025 and we’ll be getting a more sci-fi version of Call of Duty than any of the previous games. Treyarch is known for including Zombies mode in their games and it has been confirmed that it will return for Black Ops II. We have a some details on the expanded Zombies co-op mode, along with the first teaser art.
During a recent interview, Treyarch head Mark Lamia provided some details on Zombies mode team and what to expect:
“[We have given the] zombie team free reign to do pretty much whatever they want with the mode regardless of the direction the campaign is headed in… It’s a totally different frame of mind when you sitting down to play zombies. It’s you and your friends...

Activision has confirmed that the next installment in their mega-successful Fps Call of Duty series will be a sequel to Black Ops. Call of Duty: Black Ops II will arrive on store shelves this fall on November 13.
The developer for Black Ops II is Treyarch, the same studio that build the first Black Ops (and which sold a record 25 million copies worldwide, making it the bestselling video game ever in the United States and Europe.) However, this time the setting will be in the future, a first for the franchise.
Set in 2025, Black Ops II takes place when a second Cold War has manifested and plunged the world into another game of military brinksmanship. Next generation technology can be used, such as advanced drones, robots and weapons. Activision is also promising that Black Ops II is rethinking the game mechanics of their first-person shooter, coming up with a new angle...

Gamers, hold onto your hats! "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" is on the way. According to the Washington Post, "CoD: BO2" is a direct sequel. It will take place during the second Cold War in the year 2025.
Remember Alex Mason from the previous game? This time around you'll be playing as his son David. Mark Lamia, the Studio Head of Treyarch tells the site, "The original 'Black Ops' took place during the first Cold War, I call it the first Cold War because the new Cold War hasn't happened -- yet."
Don't be sad. You'll get to play Alex again in 1980's flashbacks. He'll be in charge of starting proxy wars with Russia in different locations like Nicaragua and Afghanistan. Both father and son share a mysterious enemy named Raul Menendez who is part of the Reagan-era conflict in Nicaragua.
Remember Frank Woods? He didn't die in the first game.

Sgt. Frank Woods may not have been surprised to see the futuristic war-zone we got a glimpse of last night, but for two straight minutes. I was taken on an unexpected thrill ride through a desolate and war ridden, futuristic haven of all things deadly.
Being surprised is not something generally accustomed to most Call Of Duty fans. For the past few years, Infinity Ward has fed us a steady diet of generally well polished but overall very familiar game play. From the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward proved indefinitely that It could change from the somewhat overdone aspects of european 20th century warfare, into what has today become the norm for the developer.
Treyarch on the other hand seems to be going above an beyond to surprise us yet again. If we include the upcoming release of Black Ops 2; set more than 10 years in the future,...

While it may not be an exclusive, the Call of Duty: Black Ops map-packs would certainly make any self-respecting PS3 owner think so. Time and time again, Black Ops continues to turn a blind eye to Sony's next-generation console, instead favouring the lure of Microsoft's Xbox 360 and their collective online audience of 20+ million.

And finally there is Annihilation, the most recent - and some say final Dlc release before MW3.
