Exclusive: Motion Picture Exchange (Mpx) has sold North American distribution and Nft (non-fungible token) rights of Brian Baumgartner (The Office) music-comedy Electric Jesus to 1091 Pictures.
The 80’s throwback movie charts the story of a never-famous teen Christian hair metal band which spends the summer of 1986 playing rock music meant to ‘make Jesus famous’.
Written and directed by Chris White, the film features Baumgartner alongside Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club), Shawn Parsons, Rhoda Griffis and Claire Bronson. Pic is produced by Chris White and Emily Reach for Hair Band Glory, LLC.
1091 Pictures and Mpx have specifically negotiated rights around the films’ Nft and digital merchandising rights, marking one of the first market deals for these rights in the independent space.
James Andrew Felts, CEO of Mpx commented: “The practical application of non-fungible media rights will have a material impact on deal structures similarly to the SVOD rights craze of the mid-2000’s.

Following its initial release on AT&T Audience Network back in 2019, the entire third season of Mr. Mercedes (based on Stephen King's Bill Hodges trilogy) is coming to Peacock on March 4th, joining the first two seasons on the streaming service:
Press Release: Based on the best-selling Bill Hodges trilogy by Stephen King, Mr. Mercedes returns for its much-anticipated third season. When beloved local author John Rothstein is found murdered, Hodges, Holly, and Jerome, along with local police, must track down his killer. But this case is more complex than the cold-blooded killing of an American icon. Unpublished novels of Rothstein’s were stolen from his home, and they are worth millions. As the case unfolds, the trio learns that although Brady Hartsfield may be gone, his depravity lives on in the lives of his victims.
Season three of Mr. Mercedes premieres on Thursday, March 4 on Peacock. All 10 episodes will drop at once.

Greenland, a cinematic disaster epic scheduled for August, has released a trailer showcasing extinction-level devastation for humanity, whose survival—in a manner akin to many recent disaster epics—rests on the shoulders of Gerard Butler.
In the case of Greenland, Butler headlines as a man who, joined by his estranged wife (Morena Baccarin) and young son (Roger Dale Floyd), embarks on a dangerous journey to prospective safety after the planet becomes bombarded by a planet-killing comet and its scattered fragments. However, expect the apocalyptic backdrop of the film to simultaneously highlight the bravery of humanity while indicting its more unstable elements. The film’s cast also consists of Scott Glenn, David Denman, Claire Bronson, Gary Weeks and Andrew Bachelor.
With that set, check out the Greenland trailer just below.
As the official logline for Greenland fully explains of the film’s plot:
A family fights for survival as a planet-killing comet races to Earth.

I recently joined my fellow Gold Derby contributors Riley Chow and Zach Laws to dissect the drama guest acting races (watch the video slugfest above). Everything took a rather unexpected turn in the spring after the TV academy moved “American Horror Story: Apocalypse” from limited to drama, and Hulu submitted the final three “orphaned episodes” of “The Handmaid’s Tale’s” second season that aired outside of last year’s eligibility period.
SEEIs ‘The Handmaid’s Tale”s Emmy gamble a genius move?
“This is between Jessica Lange, Carice van Houten and Cherry Jones,” I boldly proclaim regarding the drama guest actress race. While our panel is an agreement that all three are safe bets to get nominated, along with perennial nominee Cicely Tyson (“How to Get Away With Murder”), we slightly disagree on who’s the likely front-runner: I’m putting my money on Lange (“American Horror Story: Apocalypse...

Get ready for a potential “Ozark” Emmy sweep, as the gritty Netflix series could receive nominations in all four main acting categories: Best Drama Actor for Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, Best Drama Actress for Laura Linney as Wendy Byrde, Best Drama Supporting Actress for Julia Garner as Ruth Langmore and Best Drama Supporting Actor for Peter Mullan as Jacob Snell.
As of this writing, Gold Derby’s racetrack odds peg nominations for Bateman and Linney and a victory for Garner, with Mullan in seventh place to receive a bid. Then there’s new cast member Janet McTeer as Helen Pierce, who’s also a dark horse contender for a supporting actress nom.
See‘Ozark’ is about to explode at the Emmys, just like ‘Breaking Bad’ did 10 years ago
