Tyler Perry and BET are continuing their fruitful business relationship.
The cable outlet and Perry have signed a new, multi-year content partnership that will have Perry create and produce hundreds more hours of programming for BET and its streaming service, BET+. The deal, which runs through 2028, extends and builds on a relationship that dates back to 2017, when Perry entered into a similar partnership with the conglomerate then known as Viacom (now Paramount Global).
Perry also expressed interest in buying a majority stake in BET when Paramount considered spinning it off last year. The company ultimately decided not to go forward with a sale, and Perry expressed disappointment with the bidding process.
That did not, however, prevent Perry and BET from continuing their partnership. The new deal includes renewals for BET series Sistas, The Oval, Assisted Living and House of Payne and BET+ shows Zatima, Ruthless, All the Queen’s Men and Bruh.

The billionaire owner of Allen Media Group pursued BET over the summer, but Paramount pulled the asset from the table.
The word “no” can serve as a goad for many, but especially for billionaires. It often turns out that the best way to get more money from a wealthy mogul is to pretend that you don’t want to sell them the thing that they’re interested in, and Paramount may have followed that strategy to the letter this year. New reports indicate that Byron Allen, founder of Allen Media Group, is in hot pursuit of BET Media Group once again after Paramount had toyed with the idea of selling to him earlier this year.
Allen has reportedly offered Paramount $3.5 billion for BET Media Group, which includes BET and VH1. Reports of his renewed interest surfaced after the possibility of BET’s sale to a management-led investor group arose this week.

When Tyler Perry and BET partnered in 2019 to create content for both the cable network and its new streaming service, BET+, they had a clear goal: Cooperation, rather than competition. BET CEO Scott Mills compares BET’s relationship with the “Madea” creator to how Pixar changed the animation game for Disney.
“If BET, by analogy, is to Black viewers what Disney is to families, then when Tyler Perry came up on the scene, it was similar to when Pixar came onto the scene,” Mills said. “Disney had an animation business that was just shocked by the extraordinary success of Pixar. Disney ultimately had this great vision that as opposed to competing with Pixar, they should bring Pixar onto their side.”
Instead of dividing and conquering, they would join forces to build and expand together. And according to Nielsen’s ratings among Black viewers, that has been a recipe for success.

Paramount Global has been looking to cash in its chips for BET for most of 2023. Now, the media conglomerate is going to have to decide just how much it is willing to let the brand go for. In March, it was originally reported that the company was interested in selling Black Entertainment Television Group — which includes cable channels BET and VH1, as well as the BET+ streaming service - after turning down a $3 billion offer for Showtime. Since then, numerous people have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the brand from media mogul Byron Allen to Shaquille O’Neal and 50 Cent. However, the candidate that emerged as the most likely new owner is one of the current owners.

Everyone's favorite Scottish singer, songwriter, and musician Lewis Capaldi is opening up about his love life. Capaldi, 26, has been pretty secretive about his romances, but at the Brit Awards in February, he was spotted cozying up to Ellie MacDowall. In an April 2023 interview with BBC Radio 2, Capaldi - who released his "How I'm Feeling Now" documentary earlier this month - opened up about their relationship for the first time.
Per Cosmopolitan, while discussing his new single "Wish You the Best" with host Scott Mills, Capaldi explained the song's meaning, saying, "All you say is, 'good luck, I'm really happy for you,' but actually you are dying inside and want to tell them all the things you miss about them and why they should stay with you, so it's just a really happy song for the summer."
Mills then asked Capaldi if he's in a rush to settle down.

Sean “Diddy” Combs is entering the race to buy BET, joining fellow media moguls Tyler Perry and Byron Allen as they vie to purchase a majority stake of BET Media Group amid reports that owner Paramount Global is exploring a sale of the asset, Variety has confirmed.
Run by CEO Scott Mills, BET Media Group includes BET, BET+, VH1 (which was moved under the group in a restructuring at Paramount last November) and BET’s production arm, BET Studios.

Another source familiar with the situation tells Variety, that while Combs has expressed interest in acquiring BET, he is not yet considered to be in talks with Paramount to purchase a majority stake.

Paramount is exploring a potential sale of a majority stake in its BET business, which includes BET, VH1 and the BET+ streaming service, a source familiar with the matter tells The Hollywood Reporter.
A second source tells THR that Tyler Perry, a longtime partner of BET, is engaged in conversations to buy the stake. Perry’s deal with Paramount, which began in 2017, is said to be coming up, and the BET purchase, if it happens, would give him ownership of the brand that airs many of his shows.
The sources both cautioned that discussions around the sale are still in the early stages, and there is no guarantee of any transaction taking place. Other parties are also said to have expressed an interest in the BET businesses.
They added that if a deal closes, Paramount expects to maintain a minority stake in the business, as well as a commercial relationship.

It’s a sad day for Radio 2 listeners. Today, Ken Bruce is leaving the mid-morning slot he’s occupied for three decades. Never a showy broadcaster – like Terry Wogan before him, he identifies as a shy man – the 72-year-old Scot was an avuncular anchor in the day. To hear that he had decided to leave came as a shock. The mood curdled when it transpired Radio 2 bosses had refused to let him work out his contract, insisting he get his slippers out from under the desk by lunchtime today.
“It’s entirely within the BBC’s right to ask me to step away a little early,” he told Radio 4’s Today programme. “But for the sake of 17 days, which was all that was remaining [on my contract], it seems a shame.” He pointed out that he’d stuck to an old-school work ethic that meant that “over the last 46 years, I haven...

The next series of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? will be Jeremy Clarkson’s last, it has been confirmed, following backlash to the columnist’s words on Meghan Markle.
Last year, Clarkson’s future on the show was called into question after reaction to a column he wrote in The Sun where the former Top Gear host said he hated the Duchess of Sussex on a “cellular level”.
Clarkson apologised and later said that he had reached out to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex over the article. However, Harry and Meghan issued their own statement claiming that Clarkson had only apologised to Harry.
At the time, ITV said that Clarkson would remain as the host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, a role he took on in 2018, “for the moment”.
Production is currently underway on the series, but it has now been announced that the forthcoming series will be his last.

The BBC has confirmed that The Reckoning, a high-profile drama about the life and crimes of Jimmy Savile, will air later this year despite reports of delays.
The series stars Steve Coogan as the Top of the Pops presenter and infamous paedophile, whose prolific, decades-long history of child sexual abuse came to light in 2012, roughly a year after his death.
Due to its sensitive subject matter, the series, which is being produced by ITV Studios for the BBC, has provoked some controversy since its initial announcement.
The Reckoning was first announced by the BBC back in 2020, with filming taking place the following year.
It had originally been expected to air late last year, but the BBC is still yet to confirm a transmission date.
In a statement, a BBC spokesperson said: “We are currently in post-production for transmission later this year. An exact date will be announced in due course.

Ozzy Osbourne has confirmed he will go back out on the road, if his health allows it.
The news comes just one month after the 74-year-old rocker announced his official retirement from touring.
Back in February, the former Black Sabbath frontman cancelled his UK and European tour dates and released a statement saying he was not well enough to perform.
The decision stemmed from an accident Osborne suffered at his home in 2019, during which he injured his spine. The injury caused ongoing health problems.
Osbourne also suffers with Parkinson’s disease, which he revealed in 2020.
But now, the singer has said that if his doctor approved it, he would get back “out there”.
“If I can ever get back to where I can tour again, fine,” Osbourne clarified to Billy Morrisonon his Ozzy’s Boneyard SiriusXM show.
“But right now, if you said to me, ‘Can you go on the road in a month?...

Scott Mills has revealed that he had to cancel a holiday after being locked in his electric car for five hours.
The BBC Radio 2 DJ shared the unfortunate anecdote with listeners during Monday’s (27 February) instalment of his radio show.
Mills had set off on Friday, with his fiancé, Sam Vaughan, intending to spend the weekend together in Amsterdam.
However, a flat car battery meant that Mills and Vaughan were stuck inside his car near the BBC’s Wogan House studios.
“I’ve had quite the weekend,” he said. “I said goodbye to you on Friday. Me and Sam agreed to head to the airport in my electric car at 4pm. Flight is at 8pm.
“Get in the car. Car doesn’t start. In fact, nothing works. I go to get out of the car. I can’t get out. Sam tries his door. Nothing. Also cannot leave the car.

Robbie Williams has explained why he “messed up” the chance to romance Kylie Minogue.
The singer duetted with Minogue for the single “Kids”, which appeared on his 2000 album Sing When You’re Winning.
Williams has now revealed that, during their time working together, he fancied the Australian star.
During a new programme for BBC Sounds, titled Robbie Williams: My Life Thru a Lens, the former Take That band member was asked by Scott Mills: “You and Kylie – what was going on there?”
Williams, who has been married to Ayda Field since 2010, replied: “Not as much as I wanted it to be, unfortunately. Messed that up.”
The singer said he did this “just by 13 whenever I was around her”.
He added: “Like it’s the girl in the year above me, ‘I don’t know how to speak to you.’ My crush of all crushes.”
He previously said he has “the longest crush” on Minogue,...

Singer Robbie Williams said that he can see a lot of similarities between himself and Harry Styles when it comes to their careers as he opens up about the ‘lonely’ side of fame. Just like Styles, the singer, 48, found fame after joining a boy band before breaking off to launch his own solo career with his debut album ‘Life Thru A Lens’, reports mirror.co.uk.
Speaking to friend and presenter Scott Mills in celebration of the album, which features the hit ‘Angels’, Williams was told by Mills, 49, that he sees similarities between the two performers.
Williams replied: “Absolutely. I see a lot. This is inconsequential but the algorithm on my YouTube threw up a video of Harry Styles talking in between songs and what he was talking about was a bit of nonsense, like I talk about, just a bit of banter.”
“It was like, I see what he’s doing.
