Reed Timmer enjoyed five seasons on TV as one of the central figures in the Discovery Channel's Storm Chasers series. However, before he ever drove by tornados on cable, he did it on YouTube, where he has run the TornadoVideosDotNet channel since early 2007. The channel's up close twister footage has been a constant hit, and Timmer is now looking to leave more of a mark on YouTube. In addition to joining up with Collective Digital Studio, he has successfully completed a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for Tornado Chasers, a web series based on his heavy weather adventures. Timmer's channel posts regular live streams of his storm chasing exploits, but Tornado Chasers features a cleaner, documentary style, similar to the TV series that provided the meteorologist with his major claim to fame. Thanks to the amount of money he has raised (now over $135,000), Tornado Chasers will include seven additional episodes with behind-the-scenes footage,...

The 'Storm Chasers' are back, and judging by all the insane natural disasters we've seen on the Weather Channel and in our own cities this year, they're gonna have a very action-packed new season.
The 2011 storm season was unlike anything this country has seen in a long time, and the guys of the Dominator, Tiv and Twistex teams were right at the heart of the storms, including the tragic and infamous tornado outbreak of over 200 twisters that tore through Alabama and Mississippi back in April.
In their continuing mission to figure out the science of these storms to save lives with better early warning systems, the guys have also upgraded their high-tech storm-chasing vehicles this season, so look out for the reveal of Reed Timmer's new Dominator 2.

On Sunday, May 22, Discovery's "Storm Chasers" team takes viewers into the belly of the biggest tornado beast of them all -- an EF5 -- in a special called "Tornado Rampage 2011."
On Wednesday, April 27, according to the National Weather Service, Mississippi and Alabama experienced not one EF5 tornado, but three, striking Preston and Smithville, Miss., and Hacklesburg, Ala.
There were also several EF4 tornadoes, including one that ripped through Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, Ala.
EF5 represents the strongest tornado on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which uses the degree of damage to estimate wind speeds and the strength of the storm.
One of the fictional storm chasers in the 1996 thriller "Twister" referred to an EF5 (then called an F5) as, "The finger of God."
Among the many on the trail of these storms, and surveying the damage afterward, were the scientists and filmmakers of the reality hit "Storm Chasers," which was shooting its current season,...

The beginning of the endings has come on, with many shows having their season finales tonight and many more coming in the next few weeks. Some will hang on into June, but not many, and then we will face summer which does have a couple interesting prospects (I'm intrigued by "Wilfred" and curious if not hopeful about "Franklin and Bash") but mostly a series of shows that weren't worth putting in direct competition with shows who have a solid audience. So prepare now, load up your Netflix lists or shop for DVDs, maybe find a hobby or two to take you out of the house a couple evenings out of the week, or just resolve to sit around and pout. Up to you. Here's your Monday night TV:

Reality programs and documentaries make a surprisingly good combination, we've already discussed shows like this. Storm Chasers however mixes these two elements with the pace and excitement of an action movie. If you're not familiar with the show, it works a bit like Twister - a group of adventurous scientists are hunting for storm in order to study them. Since tornados and other weather catastrophes seem to occur in a random pattern, it's important to catch them on time as the results may bring forward new data that may be able to help avert similar catastrophes in the near future. Although we don't see many flying cows in the series, Storm Chasers outdoes fiction in several respects: our heroes use almost futuristic vehicles and equipment and when we think about that what we see happens for real, we get a real appreciation of these men's job. Compared to the director or the cameraman,...

The wind-heavy, parts-flying, adrenaline-rushing action of "Storm Chasers" is returning to the Discovery Channel. The show, which will be heading into its third season, takes viewers smack dab in the middle of the country's most dangerous tornadoes.
