We're big fans of fantasy booking and speculating wildly here at /Film, which means today's announcement regarding a new series from Jason Bateman and Jude Law for Netflix has thrown our imaginations into overdrive. As first reported by Deadline, Bateman and Law are joining forces to develop a one-hour limited series called "Black Rabbit," with the duo both attached to star and executive produce.
Bateman and Law are two fan-favorite actors at the top of their craft that have yet to share the screen together. "Black Rabbit" would mark the first time the duo will act opposite one another, which should certainly constitute an immediate green light. However, it does need to be mentioned that "Black Rabbit" is still in the development stages, and there's no guarantee that Netflix will see the series to fruition. After all, the streamer has been known to cut shows in the middle of production.

Whether onstage or onscreen, Ruth Wilson has never shied from intimate and demanding scenes, and she’s got plenty in her new film, True Things.
Based on the book by Deborah Kay Davies, it casts Wilson as Kate, a benefits worker who can’t resist a torrid affair with an ex-con known only as “Blond,” played by Tom Burke. Wilson says the pair and filmmaker Harry Wootliff loved working with “the queen of intimacy coaching,” Ita O’Brien.
“She was brilliant,” recalls Wilson, who reportedly left The Affair over issues with the way nude scenes on Showtime series were handled, among other concerns. “I’m really hoping it results in more interesting sex scenes on our screens because there’s a dialogue now and there wasn’t one before. Having an intimacy coach now means the discussion can happen in a pragmatic, practical, rational way.

“True Things,” which world premieres Saturday in Venice’s Horizons section, is the fruit of a collaboration between the production companies of two stars, Jude Law and Ruth Wilson, the first feature film that she has produced, as well as The Bureau, a production company with a stellar track-record for delivering arthouse hits.

Harry Wootliff, one of Britain’s rising women filmmakers, is in Venice for the world premiere, in the Horizons section, of her second feature, “True Things,” starring Ruth Wilson and Tom Burke. The film also plays at Toronto. Variety spoke to the writer-director, and the producers, Wilson, Jude Law, Tristan Goligher and Ben Jackson.
The film, based on Deborah Kay Davies’ novel “True Things About Me,” was initially developed by Jackson and Law’s production company Riff Raff U.K. and Wilson’s Lady Lazarus. When they brought on board The Bureau’s Tristan Goligher, he recommended Wootliff, with whom he was working on relationship drama “Only You.” That film went on to earn her a BAFTA nomination for outstanding debut, and the British Independent Film Award for debut director.
“True Things” follows Kate, a single woman in her early thirties, working in a dead-end office job in an English coastal town.
