To say The Cabin in the Woods isn’t your typical horror story would be an understatement. In Cabin, writers Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard flip the horror genre on its back and inject it with dark humor and a healthy dose of science fiction. Much like the Expendables 2, this movie is designed for genre lovers. If you know the rules and the cliché archetypes – and more importantly enjoy them – then, you will be able to savor this audacious tale of organized, chaotic horror.
Cabin also has a touch of mystery and suspense in the tale, which is cleverly revealed with each dismembered morsel. There are a few oddball moments and some sketchy CG effects in the end, but it never takes away from the film. The Blu-ray release gives viewers thorough behind-the-scenes tour of Goddard and Whedon’s genre bending blood fest.

The Cabin in the Woods is already going down as the one film this year you’ll urge all your friends to see, but won’t tell them anything about it. While the trailer spoiled a few money shots, all the joy and horrific pleasures of Drew Goddard‘s feature debut remain unspoiled. This is the rare type of horror film: the surprising kind.
The set up is basic as five college buddies – Curt (Chris Hemsworth), Marty (Fran Kranz), Holden (Jesse Williams), Dana (Kristen Connolly) and Jules (Anna Hutchison) – head up to a “cabin in the woods” for a weekend of boozing and other typical college kid activities. Once they get there, the trip does not go as planned. Without spoiling anything, two government-esque employees, Richard Sitterson (Richard Jenkins) and Steve Hadley (Bradley Whitford), have a hand in why.
That’s a trite-sounding sell, but Goddard and Whedon go beyond it.

How a liberal should read, and even appreciate, the confessions and the revelations of Decision Points.
What, you were still sleeping off Tuesday's elections? Too bad, Democrats. George W. Bush is back, thumbs in belt loops, striding across the literary world with a new memoir. The idea of repressing the aftertaste of Bush's eight years in office is now officially impossible, what with the Decider on with Matt, Oprah, and the apostles of the Fox News network.

So if lefties can no longer avoid Bush, what should they do about him? Engage in a fresh round of Bush-bashing? Ignore him? Or-gasp-even begin to forgive? Our guide below:
So? Pretend you're briefing Bush and give me the short review of Decision Points.
Fascinating. Earthy. Sympathetic at certain turns and wildly unconvincing at others. And-a surprise for me-well-written.
How would you describe Bush's literary style?...
