Once a rapidly growing Latin American economy, and fertile ground for influential indie pop and neoperreo movements, Chile has become the center of socio-political discord that’s swept the region over the last several years. Since October 2019, millions of Chileans have taken to the streets in waves of protests and civil unrest dubbed el estallido social, or the social outburst. Their goals: dismantle the neoliberal policies of the Seventies that fostered staggering income inequality, abandon the archaic Pinochet-era constitution, and draft a new magna carta to codify institutional gender parity...

90 Day Fiance personality Tom Brooks and his girlfriend, Mariah Fineman, say a fellow reality star, Rock of Love alum Daisy de la Hoya, is “stalking” them.
The couple claims Daisy — who was runner-up on Season 2 of Rock of Love, which featured Poison’s lead singer Bret Michaels — has been harassing the pair in and around their Las Vegas apartment complex.
According to a police report obtained by TMZ, Mariah and Tom alleged that Daisy began stalking them in January.
The 90 Day Fiance stars told police that Daisy chased Tom down in their neighborhood, got in his space, sniffed him, and declared her love for him.
Tom also claimed that Daisy would call out his name and frequently invite him inside for dinner.

The Masked Singer now has another glam-metal alum among its ranks after ex-Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach was revealed as Tiki on the singing competition show on Wednesday night (December 6th).
Inspired by previous appearances from Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider and Poison’s Bret Michaels on the show, Bach was convinced to don the massive head-to-toe disguise, becoming Tiki — a literal walking tiki cocktail. Fittingly, Bach performed a song by fellow rock legends Kiss (“I Was Made for Lovin’ You”) before the big reveal, as he was eliminated during the semifinals.
Panelist Nicole Scherzinger was correct in guessing that the former Skid Row frontman was Tiki, having previously shared a bill with Bach in 2006 and picking up on a clue related to Skid Row’s “Monkey Business.”

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from Wednesday’s episode of The Masked Singer, including the identities of the eliminated contestants.
It was a double elimination night for The Masked Singer, and two contestants got the axe during rock night.
Despite a rendition of “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” that got the audience and the judges going, Husky was first on the chopping block, sending Tiki and Sea Queen into the battle royale. After making it through several rounds of The Masked Singer, it’s hard to believe the artist behind this mask almost declined the chance to perform at all.
“My agent gave me a call and said that they wanted me on the show, and originally I said no,” Ginuwine told Deadline a few hours before his unmasking. Luckily, he had a change of heart.
“I’m pretty much a person [that likes] space to myself,” he said. “So I figured,...

For fans of the two masters of their own trades, getting to see the trademark eeriness of Roald Dahl’s symbolism-infused short stories mingle with Wes Anderson’s auteurist approach would be nothing short of a dream come true. Netflix’s acquisition of the rights to the celebrated author’s collection of stories only brought that very dream strikingly close to materializing. The result? Four of Dahl’s obscure stories get to fit into the signature Wes mold and are reshaped to take up the form that complements the director’s vision.
Spoilers Ahead
Harry Pope cries snake in Poison, In the dollhouse-like structure that the director deems a fitting home for something vile, the stakes shift at an odd moment, and the threat shapeshifts to take on a human form. Benedict Cumberbatch, the ferocious racist bound to his bed by an imaginary fear, grows more appalling with every passing second.

Wes Anderson has returned to the world of Roald Dahl with The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a short film set to debut on Netflix later this month, but it isn’t the only short based on Dahl’s stories that Anderson has on his slate.
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling. The film recently had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and will debut on Netflix on September 27th. It will be followed by adaptations of The Swan, The Rat Catcher, and Poison on September 28th, 29th, and 30th, respectively. Wes Anderson gave a rundown of the shorts while speaking with Deadline.
“Well, there’s one where Ralph Fiennes plays a rodent exterminator,” Anderson said.

Despite fears for the future of film in the new, seemingly disposable digital era, there are still many auteurs holding on out there in the modern movie landscape. For example, there’s Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan and even Michael Bay. But few directors are as instantly recognizable as Wes Anderson. Nothing happens by accident in a Wes Anderson movie: the camera moves are perfectly choreographed — sideways tracking shots are a specialty — and the sets don’t even begin to aim for realism. Clothes are tailored, hair and makeup is scrutinized all the way down to lipstick and nail polish, and music is key, creating a subtle, sometimes melancholy and always wholly effective emotional backdrop.
Even when Anderson branched out into animation, with Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009), he took that sensibility with him.

Even though he's already had a well-liked film in cinemas this year (Asteroid City), Wes Anderson has also been hard at work crafting a series of shorts based on Roald Dahl stories for Netflix. The first, The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar, lands on the streaming service in a couple of weeks and you can see the trailer below.
The short stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular Sugar, a rich guy who learns of a guru (Ben Kingsley) who claims he can see without using his eyes.
Sparking to the notion that this could help him win even more cash, Henry Sugar looks to learn how to do it himself.
Anderson wrote and directed the short, which also features the likes of Wa repertory company members Ralph Fiennes (as Roald Dahl – he pops up in the other shorts) and Dev Patel, plus Richard Ayoade.
The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar lands on Netflix on 27 September.

Shane Hawkins, the son of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, sat behind the kit with his dad’s covers band Chevy Metal at a couple of recent California gigs. As you may know, Druids have been one of Diablo 4‘s best endgame classes since the game launched. What you may not know is that Diablo 4‘s Season 1 update actually made leveling a Druid significantly less annoying than it used to be.
Before we take a look at the leveling build that actually makes Druids fun before Level 50, please keep in mind that this is a pure leveling build. In other words, it’s designed to get you to World Tier 3. While you can probably use a variation of this build beyond that point, you’ll want to start taking advantage of the increasingly powerful Legendary Aspects, Gear, and Paragon Points you’ll slowly gain access to in higher World Tiers. Even then, there are better options.

Todd Haynes’ May December will open the New York Film Festival on September 29, organizers said today.
The film had its world premiere in Cannes and its North American rights were acquired by Netflix for $11 million after an all-night bidding war. New York will host the film’s North American premiere as the kickoff to its 61st edition. Haynes and members of the cast headed by Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore are expected to be in attendance.
While the New York fest has sometimes opened with major world premieres like The Irishman in 2019, its DNA as a “festival of festivals” based in a media-rich city has led it to program plenty of non-premiere openers. The 2022 fest opened with White Noise, which had world-premiered in Venice. Even after an opening night featuring an established festival title, this year’s NYFF is likely feature quite a few world premieres during the course of its 17-day run.

Todd Haynes is cooking up his next film, which he’s described as “a gay love story set in 1930s LA.” And it looks like he’s found the right co-writer in Joaquin Phoenix, who Haynes said pushed him to “go further” with the script so it’d wind up with an Nc-17 rating.
“The next film is a feature that’s an original script that I developed with Joaquin Phoenix based on some thoughts and ideas he brought to me,” Haynes told IndieWire recently while at Cannes. “We basically wrote with him as a story writer. Me and Jon Raymond and Joaquin share the story credit. And we hope to be shooting it beginning early next year.”

Joaquin Phoenix is taking it up another notch after Ari Aster’s “Beau Is Afraid,” teaming up with Todd Haynes for an Nc-17-rated gay romance film.
Haynes spoke to IndieWire at the Cannes Film Festival following the Saturday premiere of his romantic drama “May December,” starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore. In the interview, Haynes teased an upcoming project he co-developed with Phoenix.

Philadelphia post-punk band Poison Ruïn have released their new album, Härvest, via Relapse Records. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.
The buzz surrounding the group is well-deserved, as proven by the title track. It offers a rare blend of lo-fi post-punk and classic Sst hardcore, with the trebly vintage production evoking Hüsker Dü and modern lo-fi auteurs Molechat Doma. Comparisons to ’80s deathrock/hardcore acts such as Christian Death and early T.S.O.L. are also warranted.
Meanwhile, the medieval aesthetics of the music video and Härvest artwork have more in common with black metal or dungeon synth. As singer-guitarist Mac Kennedy explained, the album’s lyrics and imagery rework fantasy themes “as a series of totems for the downtrodden, stripping it of its escapist tendencies and retooling it as a rich metaphor for the collective struggle over our shared reality.”

Mötley Crüe has never been shy about sharing the dirt, but guitarist Mick Mars has revealed one big secret his bandmates may have wanted kept quiet.
According to a profits participation lawsuit filed Thursday by the 71-year-old six-stringer in Los Angeles Superior Court, Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil and Tommy Lee have been fake-playing and pre-recorded some of their vocals for the tour. The allegation from Mars not only puts the self-described “world’s most notorious band” in an uncomfortable spotlight, but it also may not go down so well with the millions of fans paying Sixx, Neil, Lee and new touring guitarist John 5 big bucks to see them on tour this year.
The bad blood that led to today’s pulling back of the rock veil on the rest of the Crüe seems to have started last year, when Mars, who suffers from ankylosing spondylitis, told the boys and management...

After the debacle that was the 1993 live-action Super Mario Brothers movie adaptation, the creators of the new animated version clearly felt the need to restore the faith of the wildly popular video game’s legions of fans. While devoted players will weigh in on whether the film fulfills that goal sufficiently, The Super Mario Bros. Movie feels like a labor of love that should easily weather any nitpicking from purists. It should also prove a major cash cow for co-producers Nintendo, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures, with sequels and spin-offs virtually guaranteed.
While Matthew Fogel’s screenplay won’t win any awards, it builds a reasonable framework for the 90 minutes of nearly nonstop mayhem that ensues. The film provides an origin story for Mario (Chris Pratt) and his younger brother Luigi (Charlie Day), first seen as regular joe Brooklyn plumbers starting their own business, much to the derision of their former boss,...

The Season 2 premiere of “Euphoria” opens with a 10-minute prologue that is, even by the fearless standard set in that show’s first season, astonishingly provocative. In telling the origin story of drug dealer Fezco, writer-director Sam Levinson breathlessly races through a sex-, violence-, and cocaine-fueled set piece with camera moves as propulsive as any conjured by Scorsese at his most frenetic. What binds the incendiary content and dynamic visuals is the music, an in-your-face parade of 10 anthemic songs that range from Billy Swan covering Elvis to Poison’s hair metal hit “I Want Action,” with some Harry Nilsson and Bo Diddley thrown in for good measure.
And that’s just the prologue — then the opening title comes up to the tune of 2Pac’s “Hit ‘Em Up” and we’re in an entirely new musical register that leads into two dozen more equally varied and original song choices over the course of an hour.

The sun is just beginning to set in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley and Miley Cyrus is busy “tweaking on some harmonies,” as she proudly puts it. She’s been holed up in her home studio all afternoon with producer Andrew Watt. Her new album, Plastic Hearts, has long been done, but the pair still have more tricks up their sleeves, like a cover of Metallica’s 1992 single “Nothing Else Matters” for an upcoming compilation. Cyrus has been belting the chorus for the past hour, in a growl that...

When Mötley Crüe announced their “Final Tour” in 2014, they knew they’d have to make a huge effort to convince people it wasn’t just an elaborate con, so they signed a “cessation of touring activity contract” at a press conference. They never actually shared the document with the public, but they claimed it meant they could never tour again. The enforcement mechanism was always a little vague since there’s no rock & roll police to stop them from just touring again anyway, but it seemed to work since it...

Why are we telling you this now? It’s not just to taunt you if you couldn’t make it. It’s because now we’re publishing an ebook of all the stories read that night. It features twelve short stories by twelve brilliant people – here’s the rundown:

Tough night for the Ukrainian pro on Dancing with the Stars: After a clip package on Monday showed Karina Smirnoff dropping the f-bomb more than she’d like her mom to see and hear, the pro broke down on camera after performing an impromptu high kick that brought her to her knees. Whether or not you'll enjoy "Rock of Ages" seems to come down to how much you enjoy metal, musicals and Tom Cruise. If you like all three, you'll be golden. If you like one of the three, it might depend which aspect you're drawn to the most. If you don't like any ... you should probably hit up "Prometheus" or "Madagascar 3" or something.
Here's what some of the critics thought of the movie musical that follows midwestern Sherrie (Julianne Hough) as she falls in love with rocker Drew (Diego Boneta) at a grimy rock club on the Sunset Strip in the late '80s.
Entertainment Weekly
Owen Gleiberman says the movie as a whole is C material, but there's one saving grace: "There is a reason to see 'Rock of Ages,' and that's Tom Cruise's funny, louche performance as Stacee Jaxx, the film's jaded and dissolute Axl Rose metal-god figure.

"Rock of Ages" will make you want to raise your arms...and then immediately plunge your fingers into your eyeballs for salvation (you can go back for seconds to rescue your ears). "Hairspray" helmer Adam Shankman directs this movie that will finally kill the '80s nostalgia that continues to plague us if we're lucky and will further root karaoke performances and bar jukeboxes in that hairspray-choked decade if we're not. We've had a sub-par version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " stuck in our head since we saw it, and we wouldn't wish this fate on anyone, except perhaps the development heads at Warner Bros. As much as everyone keeps trying to make Julianne Hough a star, Steve Perry she is not (though admittedly she is cuter).
Based on the hit Broadway musical, "Rock of Ages" follows small-town girl Sherrie Christian (Hough) as she leaves Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the bright lights of the Sunset Strip.

Originality is something of an elusive force nowadays. Whether it’s in literature, film, music, etc, it just seems like everything is repeating or being re-used, remade, or re-imagined. I have found a virtual gem of originality in Kagan McLeod’s “Infinite Kung Fu” (read my interview with Kagan McLeod). What is this “Infinite Kung Fu” I speak of you ask? Well it’s a tome of martial arts goodness, a volume of zombie madness, a text full of fun! That’s what it is! Come join me as I take you on a quick tour through the Martial World. Born of a love of all things kung fu, “Infinite Kung Fu” is a melting pot of kung fu pop culture references. It has Shaolin monks, Blaxsploitation Kung Fu, Poison Kung Fu masters, Supernatural Martial Arts, a bit of anime influence and last but certainly not least zombies. A mash-up...

Supernatural Review, Season 7, Episode 18: “Party on, Garth”
Written by Adam Glass
Directed by Phil Sgriccia
Airs Fridays at 9pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on Supernatural: Garth likes hot tubs, Sam likes self-delusion, and Dean likes microbrews.
When the ever-reliable DJ Qualls showed up for an earlier episode this season as Garth, he was utterly wasted. What a lovely surprise, then, to see him back this week reprising his role as Garth, and getting both more screen time and far more to do. As before, the writers team him up with Dean and comedy ensues. Qualls gives Garth an enjoyable goofiness which is refreshing after so many bitter, hardened Hunters. In fact, Garth seems by far the most well-adjusted of the Hunters we’ve met over the course of the series, though perhaps that’s why, as the “Previously On…”s remind us, even Bobby was surprised he’s still alive.

Supernatural 7.18 Review: An Ode to the Dangers/Benefits of Drinking...and Twist Endings
I don't know what it is about Supernatural lately, but the show has become an absolute master of misdirection. Every time you think you've got an episode figured out, it veers off in a completely unexpected direction. This first happened this season with the stellar "How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters" and continued with the so-so episode "Out with the Old". This week, "Party on Garth" started out as a light-hearted episode that promised the return of the very amusing DJ Qualls.
