MLB returns to a cornfield in Iowa for a baseball game and a tribute to the classic movie Field of Dreams and one of the film’s stars, Ray Liotta. After the first MLB at Field of Dreams Game between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox was a big hit, MLB and Fox are ready to release the sequel. The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds will emerge from the cornfield on Thursday, August 12, for a game taking place on land adjacent to where 1989’s Field of Dreams was filmed in Dyersville, Iowa. Kevin Burkhardt, David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez lead the pregame show at 6/5c, which will also pay tribute to Liotta, who died May 26, in a piece voiced by fellow castmate Kevin Costner. Dodgers play-by-play announcer Joe Davis has a new role at Fox Sports, that of lead play-by-play announcer for Fox Sports’ Major League Baseball (MLB) coverage.
“It’s been amazing to watch Joe’s continued growth over the years developing into one of the elite broadcasters in all of sports,” Brad Zager, president of production/operations and executive producer for Fox Sports, said in a statement. “As an integral part of our coverage over the last several years, his transition onto baseball’s biggest stage is a natural fit and we couldn’t be more excited to have him as the new voice of MLB on Fox.”
Davis has been calling Los Angeles Dodgers game since 2017, succeeding the legendary Vin Scully upon his retirement. Davis, who will still call local Dodgers telecasts on SportsNet LA, will also join John Smoltz in the lead booth, alongside reporters Tom Verducci and Ken Rosenthal.

The New York Post reported on Monday that Rosenthal, who also works for Fox Sports and as a writer for The Athletic, would not be brought back for next season on the league-owned network, and cited sources claiming it was due to Rosenthal’s frequent criticism of Manfred, particularly during the Covid-impacted season of 2020. The Raconteurs caught the beginning and end of Saturday night’s Washington Nationals game – and played a concert in between – after the contest between the Nationals and Milwaukee Brewers stretched to 14 innings.
According to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, White and his band mates attended the first three innings of the game and then left to perform their show at the Anthem, a venue that is roughly a mile away from Nationals Park.
When the concert ended, the Raconteurs checked the score and learned that the baseball game was tied and in extra innings.

The venture-capital funding spigot for many online publishers is dribbling a lot less cash these days, with one notable exception: sports.

I’d like to alert you to a medical condition I have made up called Obvious Sportscaster Syndrome (Oss), also known as Commentator Mouth. Movies that display symptoms of Commentator Mouth include broadcasters in sports movies delivering painfully obvious and exposition-laden dialogue during boxing matches, football games or the like. Oss most commonly affects genuinely talented, real-life sports journalists making cameos in otherwise good films. And the worst cases of Oss range from mildly irritating to completely taking you out of the moment. Not once has the presence of commentators actually added to a movie, and sadly, there is no cure. The latest to come down with the disease is “Creed II,” contracting it from the first “Creed” film and as far back as the “Rocky” sequels. If you or a movie you love suffers from Commentator Mouth, you may see it represented in the list below:
“Creed” and “Creed II...

One of the least likely places you'd expect to hear a Tea Party analogy is while listening to baseball reporting. Mlb Network sportswriter Ken Rosenthal fulfilled that void yesterday while discussing the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame's failure to nominate a single player for this year's induction.
