When it comes to a “serial killer in the woods” film, you might think that if you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all. Watching movies like Wrong Turn or Just Before Dawn leads you to expect a group of people being warned to leave by a crazed local. Then they get lost in the woods and start dying off one by one. While each film has its different characters, death scenes and level of psychopathy, there tends to be a fairly conventional feel.
Don’t Let Him In attempts to break away from the pattern by bringing some twists and turns that, in theory, would be a much needed change for the subgenre. However, due to shallow characterization, sloppy pacing, and plot holes, all Don’t Let Him In can do is serve as a motivator for future films.

Be careful who you pick up on the highway while on holiday. Make sure you stop for a hot blonde but not a grizzled lout. Otherwise, your time away from work will be full of murder and prose of trees needing "to be fed." This is the lesson that Don't Let Him In teaches horror fans as Kelly Smith's first film is confined by its budget while still finding a way to use psychology to tragic effect. As well, a small cast, one primary setting and only a few camera tricks keep this picture in indie territory with the film slightly formulaic. The film is slightly conservative overall.

Faces in the Crowd is a thriller destined for a straight-to-video release in late October. This film stars actresses Milla Jovovich and Sarah Wayne Callies in a tale of prosopagnosia. What is prosopagnosia you ask? This is a condition caused by damage to the occipital or temporal lobe that leaves the affected with an inability to remember or identify faces. This is an interesting plot device that leaves Anna unable to point a finger at a killer, who she has just witnessed kill an innocent young woman. The rest of the film revolves around this device while the film bounces back and forth in genres, between thriller and romance. The end result is an average film that is remarkably ridiculous in the final moments.
Anna is walking home from a late night club when a pair of voices draw her attention.

British director Kelly Smith's Don’t Let Him In (2011) is a strange movie. Starting from the title, which echoes that of Matt Reeve's vampire horror-remake Let Me In (2010) – you’ll be forgiven for wondering whether this is a parody. However, Don't Let Him In transpires to be a serious and gore-packed horror film with lots of good intentions – but, also, lots of nonsensical moments which verge on the laughably absurd more often than not.
