With most franchises, animated or otherwise, the well has run dry by the time the third episode is under consideration, which explains why so many second sequels fail to meet expectations. But I’m pleased to report that the third time is the charm for DreamWorks Animation’s hilarious installment of their Madagascar franchise. The first two films, aside from some entertaining psychotic penguins, were ho-hum children’s flicks but I have to say this new one is easily the best in the series and the funniest family film I’ve seen since The Muppets.
Opening where the second installment left off with zebra Marty (Chris Rock), lion Alex (Ben Stiller), hippo Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith) , and giraffe Melman (David Schwimmer) stuck in Africa, Madagascar Europe’S Most Wanted transports them to the south of France where they devise a scheme to make their way back to New York by joining a traveling circus.
