Won the pro-am competition 2004 Fürth Grand Prix beating his friend Matthew Stevens 4-2 in the final. After his death the tournament was renamed the Paul Hunter Classic.
Qualified for the World Championship for the first time in 1999 where he lost to the eventual winner Stephen Hendry in the first round.
His last ever match was his first round match at the 2006 World Championship in which he lost 10- to Neil Robertson.
Was good friend's with fellow pro Matthew Stevens who was a pallbearer at his funeral.
