"I heard you had great abilities, sir." Kino Lorber has released an official US trailer for the strange Polish drama Never Gonna Snow Again, which first premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year. We ran a teaser and a full trailer last year in the fall. On a gray, foggy morning outside a large Polish city, a masseur apparently from Ukraine named Zhenia enters the lives of the wealthy residents of a gated community. With his hypnotic presence and quasi-magical abilities, he is able to get a residence permit and starts plying his trade. The well-to-do residents in their own cookie-cutter suburban homes seemingly have it all, but they all suffer from an inner sadness, some unexplained longing. The attractive and mysterious newcomer's hands heal, and Zhenia’s eyes seem to penetrate their souls. Starring Alec Utgoff, Maja Ostaszewska, Agata Kulesza, Weronika Rosati, Katarzyna Figura. I'd say that comparison...

Malgorzata Szumowska and Michal Englert’s “Never Gonna Snow Again,” one of the buzziest titles out of the Venice Film Festival, has found distribution in the U.K., Italy and Germany.
Following what’s understood to have been a competitive process with wide interest, Picturehouse Entertainment has swooped for U.K./Eire rights. I Wonder has bought the film for Italy, and Real Fiction are on board for Germany. The film is sold internationally by The Match Factory.
“Never Gonna Snow Again” world premiered in Venice on Sept. 7 to critical acclaim. The film tells the story of masseur Zhenia, who hails from the Ukrainian city of Pripyat, which was deeply affected by the nearby Chernobyl blast. Zhenia enters the lives of the rich but troubled residents of a bland, walled-off community in Poland, where he begins to heal them with his hands and companionship, and changes their lives for good.

How much healing can a good massage provide? A fast-fading hour or so of relaxation, or a more sustained sense of general well-being and peace with the world, so long as it’s topped up with repeat appointments? In “Never Gonna Snow Again,” a searching, cryptic satire of bourgeois insularity in modern Poland, the magic hands of an immigrant Ukrainian masseur are tasked with easing a litany of woes, from middle-class guilt to climate change anxiety to terminal cancer — though no one thinks to ask him about his own interior aches and pains. After last year’s moody but mildly received English-language diversion “The Other Lamb,” prolific Polish auteur Malgorzata Szumowska returns to home turf in this Venice competition entry, and the result is her most compelling and hauntingly realized film to date.

Malgorzata Szumowska, best director winner at the Berlin Film Festival for “Body,” has started shooting “Wonder Zenia,” starring “Stranger Things” actor Alec Utgoff, on location in and around Warsaw.
Utgoff, who played Alexei in the third season of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” and also appeared in “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” stars in the title role in “Wonder Zenia.” The film also stars Agata Kulesza, who played “Red Wanda” in Oscar-winner “Ida,” Maja Ostaszewska (“Body”), Weronika Rosati and Katarzyna Figura.
Zenia, the film’s protagonist, is an industrious Ukrainian migrant worker in Poland who makes house calls as a masseur to the needy and aspirational residents of a middle-class gated community near Warsaw. He is privy to all of their problems, anxieties and secrets – and something of an unwitting guru figure. Zenia’s grounded spirituality, apparent healing powers and broad shoulders make him an object of lust for many of the lost souls in the community.

Whether we actually needed an update of the classic Roman Polanski chiller Rosemary’s Baby is still unclear, but NBC is nevertheless sending one our way later this year. Starring Avatar actress Zoe Saldana in the lead role of a newlywed mother-to-be who begins to suspect that her husband and new neighbors may have dark plans for her unborn child, the four-hour miniseries, now filming in Paris, will find its way to the small screen this May.
We got our first look at Saldana in her role last week, and now NBC has unveiled the official poster for Rosemary’s Baby, which you can check out below.
With a sinister ambience and a direct but effective tagline, the poster promises an eerie update of a familiar story, while also highlighting what sets the miniseries apart from Polanski’s film: namely, its Paris setting. Like the original novel by Ira Levin,...

Sylvester Stallone's latest revenge focused flicked, Bullet to the Head, is coming to blu-ray this July, and Warner Bros. has just announced all the details that will be coming with the blu-ray and exactly when you'll be able to get your hands on it.
I didn't get a chance to see Bullet to the Head in theaters when it first came out. I enjoy Stallone, and his movies, despite them being of a single-purpose, but I never got around to checking this one out. Due to its mixed reviews, I decided it was probably best to wait until the film hit store shelves. Now we know when it's going to!

New 'Bullet To The Head' movie delivered great action, drama & more. Warner Bros. Pictures released their new action/thriller flick "Bullet To The Head" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and thought it was great, serving up major hardcore action along with a good plot. Sylvester Stallone can still bring the major pain in these action films. The movie stars: Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang, Sarah Shahi, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Christian Slater, Jon Seda, Weronika Rosati, and Jason Momoa. In the new flick, hitman Jimmy Bobo (Sylvester Stallone) and his partner Louis Blanchard (Jon Seda) take out a corrupt policeman, named Hank Greely, as part of a job. However, Jimmy and Louis get double-crossed by their employer when they send in a man named Keegan (Jason Momoa) to try and kill them. He successfully kills Louis, but Jimmy put up a mean fight and got away. From there,...

Title: Bullet to the Head Director: Walter Hill Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Sung Kang, Christian Slater, Sarah Shahi, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jon Seda, Weronika Rosati, Jason Momoa After dipping a toe into the pool of arthouse embrace and rejuvenation with James Mangold’s “Cop Land,” and finding the reception a bit chillier than he would’ve liked, Sylvester Stallone has mostly retreated back into his man-cave of 1980s-style actioners. This is not entirely a bad thing. His reasoned, surprisingly smart and moving “Rocky Balboa,” from 2006, stands as a compelling drama in its own right, and a worthy bookend to the original film. But this wounded mindset also begat 2008′s “Rambo,” a sloppy, nihilistic and near-pointless [ Read More ]

There’s no other way to start this review/recap without giving away a (possibly) Major Spoiler: poor, young Nathan Israel (Patrick J. Adams) took a glass ashtray to the head — twice nonetheless! — thanks to the anger and fury of one Michael “Mike” Smythe (Michael Gambon). When we last see young Nathan, he’s on the floor, inside Mike’s yacht, unconscious and bleeding profusely from his wounds. There is a good chance that he is dead (we’ll probably get a confirmation in Episode 8). The fact that he doesn’t check in with Ace (Dustin Hoffman) and Gus (Dennis Farina) the after his meeting with the evil big wigs worries them. They try to convince themselves that he’s probably enjoying the beautiful women in Mike’s harem but that scenario is way too good to be true.
Things went awry for Nathan because he kept his cool trying...

Written by Amanda Ferguson
Directed by Brian Kirk
Airs Sundays at 10pm Et on HBO
“Syntax!” In David Milch-land, words and language are king. They have power, but that power can be tragically misapplied. That’s a lesson poor Nathan Israel learns too late in “Episode Seven”‘s most memorable sequence, in which we get our first (human) casualty when Israel parrots one of Ace’s most oft-repeated observations (“answers a question with a question!”), thereby confirming Mike’s suspicion that Israel has not been performing his double-agent duties in good faith.
Last week I pronounced Joey as being just as messed-up as he was before his Magnolia-esque incident with a stray bullet. That prognosis is somewhat confirmed this week as it’s clear that his stutter remains, though it’s more pronounced around some characters than others. Joey, who this week seems to pick up Rosie as a client,...

In Darkness Trailer 1, Trailer 2. Agnieszka Holland‘s In Darkness (2011) movie trailer stars Robert Wieckiewicz, Benno Fürmann, Agnieszka Grochowska, Maria Schrader, and Kinga Preis. In Darkness‘ plot synopsis: “In Darkness is based on a true story. Leopold Socha, a sewer worker and petty thief in Lvov, a Nazi occupied city in Poland, one day encounters a group of Jews trying to escape the liquidation of the ghetto. He hides them for money in the labyrinth of the town’s sewers beneath the bustling activity of the city above.
What starts out as a straightforward and cynical business arrangement turns into something very unexpected, the unlikely alliance between Socha and the Jews as the enterprise seeps deeper into Socha’s conscience. The film is also an extraordinary story of survival as these men, women and children all try to outwit certain death during 14 months of ever increasing and intense danger.”
