Roku Media president Charles Collier has set a new leadership team as part of the company’s ongoing restructuring.
The streamer has named Alison Levin as head of global media revenue and Joe Franzetta as head of sports, promoted Kristina Shepard to vice president of global advertising sales and partnerships, and has given oversight of its Brand Studio segment to head of content David Eilenberg.
Levin and Eilenberg will continue to report directly to Collier. Meanwhile, Shepard will report to Levin and Franzetta will report to Eilenberg.
In addition, Julian Mintz, who works on Levin’s sales team, will lead ad sales for the Large Customer Sales (Lcs), Emerging, and Political teams as senior director of enterprise advertising sales.

As streaming becomes more and more focused on ad-supported opportunities, it was only a matter of time before video providers made those advertisements interactive. On Tuesday, Roku, the largest streaming platform in the United States, announced that it was launching a partnership with e-commerce giant Shopify to allow viewers to purchase products from Shopify merchants directly from their TV screens using only their remote controls.

The streaming service Paramount+ has secured some prime new real estate: its own “neighborhood” in Roku City, the virtual world that serves as a home screen for Roku devices.
Earlier this month Roku announced that it would be offering a new opportunity for advertisers to buy custom placement within Roku City. Paramount+ is the first entertainment company to take advantage of the offering.
Under the deal with Paramount+, the streaming service will get its own neighborhood in Roku City from May 25-29. And just as the classic Roku City featured recognizable characters and locations from films and TV shows, the Paramount+ neighborhood will incorporate people and places from films like Top Gun: Maverick and Transformers to TV shows like Star Trek and Paw Patrol. There will also be billboards in Roku City promoting shows and movies, enabling users to click once and be taken directly to the content.

Roku is jumping into the e-commerce space with Walmart.
On Thursday, shares in Roku jumped after company unveiled a partnership with Walmart to make TV streaming the next frontier in online shopping by closely tieing entertainment to an e-commerce store. Going beyond the Qr code, TV viewers will be able to use their remote device during a shoppable TV commercial to select a product and go directly to checkout using Roku Pay, Roku’s payments platform.
Walmart will be the exclusive retailer to allow streamers to shorten the time from inspiration to purchase, as products are fulfilled by Walmart directly on Roku’s streaming platform. By tapping “Ok” on the Walmart checkout page, the order will be instantly done and emailed details will follow with shipping, return and support information.

Ben Aaronovitch on Peter Grant, Cityreads, Doctor Who and Dolly Parton...
For many who read this site, our first exposure to the work of Ben Aaronovitch came with his pair of Doctor Who stories, Remembrance Of The Daleks and Battlefield. Or maybe you've followed his best-selling series of Peter Grant novels, which keep threatening to come to television? As he releases a new audio short to help raise money for Cityread, he spared us some time for a chat...
Can you tell us what you’re up to? You’ve done this book for Cityread: perhaps start with what that is?
Cityread is a charity that used to be London-based, but now they’re setting up in other cities around the UK. Our latest is Slough!
Slough?
Yeah! One of the upcoming detective stories we’re doing is going to be set in Slough. It’s got to be done!

Pertwee! Daleks! Quarries! Exclamation points! Classic Doctor Who. This would mark the last time that Jon Pertwee.s Doctor would encounter his greatest nemesis. Maybe not the best Dalek story, but certainly has its good points. The Doctor (Jon Pertwee) and Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) are traveling in the Tardis when it suffers an unexpected power failure and arrives on the planet Exxilon. They.re not the only ones stranded as they find a group of Marine Space Corps, Dan Galloway (Peter Lamont), Capt. Richard Railton (John Abineri), Peter Hamilton (Julian Fox), Jill Tarrant (Joy Harrison), and the wounded Commander Stewart (Neil Seiler), searching for a cure to a plague sweeping the galaxy. The mineral that will stop the...

I can only concur with Shadowlocked colleague John Bensalhia as regards the Jon Pertwee 1973 Doctor Who outing Death To The Daleks; in his review he says..
"Death To The Daleks does run, for the most part, on tried and tested lines. But it's still very enjoyable, and what’s more, does offer some interesting novelties."
Chief among which novelties are Daleks that can't exterminate. Well, not initially, anyway. When The Doctor and Sarah Jane (ah Liz, how empty the commentary room is without you!) get pulled into the energy-draining field of a savage planet that displays the remnants of an apparently dead but illustrious ex-civilisation, they find themselves far from lonely. Dodging mysterious bands of archers, our heroes are separated almost immediately for a first episode that, as the commentary notes, is extraordinarily light on dialogue and dark of picture.
Before too long it's clear that a huge and strangely...
