“It’s been a fantastic year for sound, and we look forward to celebrating the incredible work sound editors have performed for movies, television, games, documentaries and other creative media last year,” said Mpse president Mark Lanza. “We are excited this year to recognize Ron Howard with our Filmmaker Award and Chic Ciccolini as our Career Achievement recipient. Building on the success of our first-ever virtual ceremony last year, we are planning an even more spectacular night of fun, surprises and great achievements in sound.”

It was a clear victory for sci-fi sound editing Sunday night at the 65th annual Mpse Golden Reel Awards at the Westin Bonaventure. “War for the Planet of the Apes” was the surprise winner for Dialogue/Adr, splitting honors with “Blade Runner 2049,” which grabbed the Effects/Foley prize. The big loser was “Dunkirk” (which won the BAFTA sound award earlier Sunday). However, Christopher Nolan’s World War II survival epic took home the Music Score award and remains the sound editing Oscar favorite.

Hollywood’s sound pros nominated Birdman and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for three awards apiece as the Motion Picture Sound Editors unveiled nods for its 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, honoring the best feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment work of the year.
“2014 was a fantastic year for sound,” said Mpse president Frank Morrone. “The advent of new distribution channels, streaming services and gaming platforms is creating additional opportunities for sound artists to practice their craft beyond the traditional venues of film and television. "Avatar" won two trophies at the 57th annual Golden Reel Awards given by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (Mpse). James Cameron's game-changing sci-fi film took home Best Sound Editing of Music in a Feature Film award and Best Sound Effects and Foley in a Feature.
