While Netflix has expanded the type of programming it offers, most recently venturing into live sports and other events, co-ceo Ted Sarandos has indicated in a new interview that news is not for Netflix.
“We don’t do breaking news and that kind of thing, because I think there’s a lot of other outlets for it. People aren’t looking to us for that,” Sarandos told The New York Times in a wide-ranging interview that ran online on Saturday when asked what’s not right for Netflix, yet the executive, whose company a year ago launched an ad tier, in the same answer said he’s open to new things: I don’t think that there’s a clean answer because the best version of something may work really well for Netflix but just hasn’t worked to date.”

The recent Netflix roast of Tom Brady was full of laughs, but not everyone found the humor enjoyable. Gisele Bündchen, Brady’s ex-wife, reportedly didn’t appreciate the jesting aimed at her and their past relationship. According to a People magazine insider, Bündchen was deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show. The supermodel, who has been busy aiding flood victims in her home state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, is particularly sensitive about jokes involving her personal life and her children. As expected with most roasts, no topic is typically off-limits. Yet, in

Gary Oldman Opens Up On Regrets Playing Sirius Black ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Gary Oldman has a few regrets about playing Sirius Black in the “Harry Potter” film franchise. Oscar-winner Gary Oldman portrayed Harry’s fugitive godfather, Sirius Black, in four films, first appearing in the third Harry Potter movie, 2004’s “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” Gary Oldman later reprised his role in “Goblet of Fire” and “Order of the Phoenix.,” before making a final appearance in “Deathly Hallows — Part 2.”

Niki Glaser Reveals Reason Kim Kardashian Was Booed ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Comedian Nikki Glaser is finally setting the record straight on the Kim Kardashian Boos heard around the world. Providing a context to one of the most cringe-inducing moments of Tom Brady Comedy Roast special on Netflix, Glaser revealed the swifties were not to blame for the reality star’s embarrassing moment on stage.
On May 9, Kim Kardashian was booed by the whole arena after she got on Stage for the Tom Brady roast. As the reality star was recently embroiled in a Taylor Swift feud with the letter accusing her of perpetuating her takedown a few years ago, fans assumed the boos were a result of the ongoing beef.
However, one of the roast performers, Nikki Glaser defended the swifties, revealing the real reason Kim was briefly heckled on stage. During an appearance at the ‘Skinny But Not Fat’ podcast,...

Tom Brady’s Netflix roast included jokes about the end of his marriage to Gisele Bündchen, his alleged use of plastic surgery and the Deflategate scandal, but no comedian roasted the NFL icon for once kissing his son on the lips.
A 2018 documentary about Brady went viral that year for footage of Brady kissing his 11-year-old son Jack on the lips. Brady was mocked on social media as a result and the moment sparked a larger debate about parents’ affection for their children, especially because he asked for a second kiss from his son after saying the first one was just a “peck.” To some viewers’ surprise, the topic of Brady kissing his son never came up during the roast.
On a new “Comedy Bang Bang” episode, comedian and acclaimed Brady roaster Nikki Glaser revealed the group all made the collective decision not to crack jokes about Brady kissing his son.

Network executives once came to the upfronts on a mission to get advertisers excited about a handful of new series coming in the fall. This year, TV’s big players took a T-shirt cannon approach.
Every one of the major presentations during the May 13-15 sprint in midtown Manhattan — NBCUniversal, Fox, Disney, Amazon, Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix — emphasized the breadth of the company’s content offerings. Call it the everything-everywhere-all-at-once strategy for the streaming age.
As always, common themes emerged across the week. “Connections” was the buzziest of buzzwords used by executives pitching their hearts out from the stage. Without question, the song of Upfronts ’24, the one heard at most if not all events, was Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ’Em.”
After sorting through the firehose of shows and spin, here are a few trends that stood out this year.
1) Star-Power Surge
Last year, the writers strike kept boldface names from appearing at the upfronts.

Recently, Netflix released The Roast Of Tom Brady. While it was aired as a live stream, there have been edits since the original availability for viewers. One of the big edits was a booing session for the great Kim Kardashian. Although it took time away from the crude roast, it was clipped from the current version on the streaming service. Although everyone is aware there is an ongoing feud between Kim and Taylor Swift, some speculate the Swifties had a hand in the ousting. However, one of the feature roasters, Nikki Glaser, has the tea about whether it was a hijack by Swifties.

In the last week of March, NFL officials and team owners huddled at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando for the league’s annual winter meetings. The gathering is an important date on the NFL calendar, with changes often made to the rulebook and its media deals always a hot topic. This year, commissioner Roger Goodell revealed that with Christmas on a Wednesday in 2024, the league would be breaking out two games to play on the holiday, creating a new package that it could bring to market. It wasn’t long before Netflix reached out, according to Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s executive vp and COO of media.

Nikki Glaser has more thoughts on The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady, and this time, she’s defending Kim Kardashian.
Kardashian appeared on the Netflix comedy special and was booed when she took the stage. In a new podcast interview, Glaser said she had initially thought the booing was fueled by Taylor Swift fans, who had just released a new diss track titled “ThanK you aIMee,” which is believed to be about her feud with Kardashian.
However, on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, Glaser said she “ran into someone” the following night of the show who was with a “wild guy who’s a comedian” with a reputation of “starting sh**.”
“I don’t remember who it was,” the comedian added. “Apparently, he started the boo as just, like, a joke. He just probably had too many drinks or something, and he’s not affiliated with Swifties…...

“Bridgerton” Season 3 is off to a steamy hot start.
The third season of the Shondaland period drama drew 45.1 million views over its first four days of availability, according to Netflix, easily finishing first on the streamer’s Global Top 10 list. Take that, Tom Brady roast.
It was the biggest week — by quite a bit — for any series on Netflix since the streamer changed its core metric from hours viewed to views in mid-June 2023.
The first four “Bridgerton” Season 3 episodes reached number 1 in 78 countries and the Top 10 in 92, Netflix said. The next four episodes premiere on June 13; try not to obsess over the big cliffhanger between now and then.
The third season of “Bridgerton” also brought the first two back to (some semblance of) their former glory. “Bridgerton” Seasons 1 and 2 both returned to Netflix’s Top 10 TV (in any language) list in the week ahead of Season 3. They did even better during Season 3’s premiere week.

Nikki Glaser ripped on Ben Affleck for bombing at Netflix’s Tom Brady roast, telling Barstool Sports’ “KFC Radio” podcast that it was abundantly clear the Oscar winner came unprepared to the live taping. Affleck was one of the event’s surprise roasters.
“I haven’t watched it again, like how it looked, because I don’t like to watch people bomb,” Glaser said of Affleck’s roast set. “He didn’t prepare. Roasts can be brutal and humiliating. But we’re not talking about the spotlight celeb, we mean when somebody bombs hard. We’ve all seen it happen and there’s always one – and this time around, Ben Affleck was the bomb (and not in the Phantoms kind of way), delivering a viral rant during The Greatest Roast of All Time that spent less time sacking Tom Brady and more going in delirious circles.

Nikki Glaser is not done talking about The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady and is reflecting on Ben Affleck’s performance.
The comedian, who got a standing ovation after her set on the Netflix special roasting the NFL champion, says that Affleck bombed on stage.

When Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez tied the knot back in July 2022, they automatically became one of the most obvious power couples in Hollywood. One a former Batman, the other a multi-talented Queen of Dance, the two were seen by many to be obvious soulmates.
After all, even after calling off an engagement way back in 2004, they eventually found their way back to each other in April 2021. This was despite the fact that Affleck had married twice during their time apart, with Lopez also walking down the aisle with longtime friend Marc Anthony.

Following The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady, people are pitching in names to be featured in a potential new Netflix roast.
Sports journalist Stephen A. Smith recently said that New York Jets Qb Aaron Rodgers wouldn’t be a good subject for the comedy special.
“No, because it’s easy,” Smith told the Associated Press on May 14th during the Disney Upfront presentation in New York City after the reporter suggested Rodgers. “With Tom Brady, I mean, he’s the golden boy. With Aaron Rodgers, even though I love him, a lot of people don’t. Because of that, some people will find it funny [and] some people will be intentionally cruel.”
Smith said that during Brady’s roast, “everybody up there had nothing but reverence and respect” for the retired NFL star.
In the sports realm, Smith pitched basketball stars LeBron James and Steph Curry for a roast.

Welcome to the 259th episode of TV’s Top 5, The Hollywood Reporter’s TV podcast.
Every week, hosts Lesley Goldberg (West Coast TV editor) and Daniel Fienberg (chief TV critic) break down the latest TV news with context from the business and critical sides, welcome showrunners, executives and other guests, and provide a critical guide of what to watch (or skip, as the case may be).
Here’s how this week’s episode plays out:
1. Headlines
Will Ferrell, Anthony Mackie, Seth Meyers, The Other Black Girl and Not Dead Yet lead the week’s non-upfronts TV industry headlines.
2. Upfronts: Amazon, Netflix
The streamers officially made their first in-person pitches to Madison Avenue ad buyers and the strategy Amazon employed — a ton of news! — vs. Netflix’s approach (they’re the culture!) couldn’t be more different.

3. Upfronts: Legacy media companies (aka everyone else)

It used to be all about the trailers and the broadcast fall schedules. Now those are largely a thing of the past as the media sector’s upfront presentations to Madison Avenue ad buyers continue to evolve.
Following a week of spin and hard sales, here are eight central takeaways after Netflix, Amazon, NBCUniversal, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, YouTube and Fox made their pitches.
1. The Streaming Giants Came to Play Reese Witherspoon attends as Amazon debuts Inaugural Upfront Presentation at Pier 36 on May 14, 2024 in New York City.
This year was the first time that Netflix and Amazon had physical events in New York during upfronts week (YouTube is now in year three), and they clearly tried to make an impression, gunning for a piece of the $20 billion or so in upfront commitments that used to go exclusively to traditional entertainment companies. Nikki Glaser said during a recent interview on “Today With Hoda & Jenna” that it’s clear Tom Brady “maybe didn’t consider the backlash from his family and how it would affect them” when he signed up to get roasted in a Netflix live comedy event. Brady has admitted as much, saying on “The Pivot Podcast” that he probably would not do another roast because of how the jokes affected his children. Glaser was widely considered one of the best comedians to roast Brady during the event.
“I also think Tom Brady does not do anything without doing his research and knowing exactly what he’s getting into,” Glaser said, debating with herself over how much Brady knew what he was getting into.

The NFL’s annual schedule release, which features enticing playoff rematches, made waves with the announcement that its Christmas Day doubleheader will be streamed live on Netflix, marking the company’s biggest foray into live sports.
The league only has two games on the docket Christmas Day compared to its tripleheader last year—the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens head to Houston to face the Texans. Also, since Christmas falls on a Wednesday, that means that there will be NFL games on that day of the week for only the third time since 1946.
Clearly, the NFL was more than willing to buck convention and play on a Wednesday after seeing the massive out-of-home ratings from last year’s tripleheader. Yet the league also sees value in creating exclusive events for streamers as it’s done for Amazon’s Prime...

After knocking her set out of the park at last week’s roast of Tom Brady, comedian Nikki Glaser has been discussing the controversial live TV event, including new regrets from the former New England Patriots quarterback to the live ribbing marathon, and how she received a note from Kim Kardashian calling the experience a form of “abuse.”
Following the May 6 roast of The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady, Brady said on The Pivot Podcast that he enjoyed when comedians took humorous jabs about nearly all aspects of his life but that he didn’t care for the jabs aimed at his family, adding that the comments impacted his children, “the people [he] care[s] about most in the world.”
“I feel like maybe he didn’t consider the backlash from his family and how it would affect them, and I do understand that,” Glaser said on Wednesday’s Today with Hoda and Jenna.

After years of resisting any shift into live sports, Netflix has finally punted and will now stream two NFL games on Christmas Day beginning this year.
It’s a major coup for Netflix, even if the games are on a Wednesday — so get ready for Tbd announcers to read a lot of “Wednesday” promos. Netflix will also get at least one game around the holidays for both 2025 and 2026. There’s no way around it now: Netflix has live sports.
Netflix would never put it this way, but the money the streamer is spending on these games is something it would’ve previously spent elsewhere, perhaps on say…a movie?

The Green Lantern movie was eventually made in the DC Studios starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. It was a huge box office failure. NFL games on Netflix in a deal announced earlier today will each cost the streamer about the same as one mid-sized film, said Spencer Wang, VP Finance, Ir and Corporate Development.
The company, whi ch has been pushing into sports and live events, nabbed the rights to a doubleheader on Christmas day 2024 and will carry at least one holiday game over the next three years. Financial details weren’t disclosed. The Wjs said Netflix will pay about $75 million a game this year. “I would characterize each game as roughly the size of one of our medium-sized original films,” Wang said during a Q&a at MoffettNathanson’s annual media conference.
“I would say it’s a very manageable cost” that fits within the streamer’s exiting content spend, pegged at about $17 billion this year.

After being the subject of Netflix’s The Greatest Roast of All Time, Tom Brady is having some regrets as he said it affected his kids.

Tom Brady survived through his scorching Netflix roast, heralded as a major win for comedy.
The NFL legend was a good sport throughout the event, while comedians, including Nikki Glaser, Jeff Ross, and Tony Hinchcliffe, took a flamethrower to his personal life and career through the brilliance of comedic insults.
Some moments hit harder than any sack Brady likely experienced on the football field, and one instance featured Brady seemingly scolding a comedian about a joke that may have crossed the line.
And while the seven-time Super Bowl champion seemed to roll with the punches and even deliver a few of his own, he recently explained why he regretted his decision.
Speaking on his experience with the roast, Brady indicated he “loved” many of the jokes focused on him.

Tom Brady has revealed the reason he wouldn’t do another roast, more than a week after Netflix’s The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady premiered.
The football superstar made a recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast where he shared his takeaways from the roast, which saw friends, athletes and comedians taking humorous jabs about nearly all aspects of his life.
“I loved when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun,” Brady admitted. “I didn’t like the way that it affected my kids, so it’s the hardest part about like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world.”

Tom Brady appeared on “The Pivot Podcast” and admitted that some of the jokes made during his Netflix roast affected his children and he would not sign up to be roasted again as a result. The NFL icon has three children, one son with Bridget Moynahan and a son and a daughter with ex-wife Gisele Bündchen. While Brady did not specify which jokes upset his children during the Netflix roast, many of the comedians present took aim at his marriage and divorce to Bündchen.
“I liked when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way they affected my kids,” Brady admitted on the podcast. “It’s the hardest part about…like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of...

Tom Brady is the Greatest Of … Netflix’s TV chart.
The NFL star took a foray into live comedy alongside some standup legends for The Roast of Tom Brady. In its first full week after airing live on Netflix, the special racked up 13.8M views, nabbing the top spot among TV.
However, Netflix viewers must really love to honor Mother’s Day, Brooke Shields’ new comedy Mother of the Bride was the top title of the week — just like last year when Jennifer Lopez took over Netflix during the same weekend with her film The Mother.

Will Smith starred as Agent J in the sci-fi film franchise Men in Black. Based on the popular comics of the same name, the original trilogy was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and was executive-produced by Steven Spielberg. Smith starred along with Tommy Lee Jones in the lead roles in all three films, and it proved to be one of the actor’s breakout roles.
Despite the original film being a huge commercial success and developing a fanbase, the sequels have been regarded as unworthy successors and have been accused of being cash grabs. Filmmaker Sonnenfeld was also reportedly under such extreme pressure to deliver a commercial hit that he almost got a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital.

NBCUniversal may have kicked off TV’s upfront week with the Wicked trailer, Snoop Dogg, and adorable penguins, but it closed Monday with a more dedicated pitch to one of its marquee divisions: It’s Spanish-language business Telemundo.
Held inside The Shed’s eight-story glass-encased McCourt space, Telemundo focused its tight presentation on its recent ratings wins over arch-rival TelevisaUnivision, with some not so subtle jabs at its competitor.
“We constantly change and give our audiences what they want, while others continue to do the same thing, night after night, week after week, year after year,” Telemundo’s new chairman, Luis Fernandez, told the crowd.
“We are known for being innovators, and filling the void of content to represent Latinos from all walks of life,” added Cesar Conde, the head of the NBCU News Group who also oversees Telemundo. “No other media company can do that because we are the...
