KollywoodThe film begins with ‘Agila Ulaga Superstar’ Shiva’s voice-over and this is the only portion during the entire film that sounds mildly funny. Anjana ShekarCharlie Chaplin starring actors Prabhu Deva and Prabhu that released in 2002 became so popular that it was remade in Hindi, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali! Actor Prabhu, in fact, won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for his performance in this film. Can the same be said for Charlie Chaplin 2 that has just released? Not in a million years! Besides, it was not as though the 2002 film was a particularly great one either. Charlie Chaplin was inspired from the 1975 Tamil film Yarukku Maappillai Yaro, directed by Sp Muthuraman and starring Jaishankar, Jayachitra, Sreekanth and Fatafat Jayalaxmi. The plot-line of both the films revolved around a lying husband and his suspicious wife. In Charlie Chaplin, Prabhu and actor Abhirami played the husband and wife roles respectively.

While the expectation levels for this film is skyrocketing, at the pre-release event for the film’s Telugu version in Hyderabad, Rajinikanth said that he had watched the movie twice so far and can vouch that it has come out really well. According to a report in Toi, the actor said, “When it comes to Kaala, we don’t want to sing high praises about our own film and at the same time, we cannot reveal much about the story yet. It deals with characters living inside this slum and tells the story of how it affects people’s lives. Usually in many films, only the hero’s character is of importance and the others may not be as significant. The film’s teaser that was released on March 2 had several political subtexts, from Ambedkar to environmental activist Wangari Maathai. The release of the film’s single on May 1, which happens to be Labour Day, is also interesting. The film has a bevy of stars in the cast including Samuthirakani, Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil, Sukanya, Aravind Akash and Sayaji Shinde. The film also stars Nana Patekar as the main antagonist. Pa Ranjith’s previous collaboration with Rajinikanth and Santosh Narayayanan has been a great success. The songs from Kabali were seen as refreshing and powerful chartbusters. In Kabali, Rajinikanth played was a Tamil man in Malaysia who fights for the rights of his people. In Kaala, he is believed to play a gangster. In an interview, Pa Ranjith said that Kaala talks about the livelihood of a society, Dharavi in particular. It was recently announced that satellite rights of ‘Kaala’ have been reportedly bought by the leading network, Star group, for a whopping Rs 75 crore. The movie was supposed to hit screens on April 27 and was postponed owing to the Tfpc strike that recently concluded. Ranjith and Santosh have worked together previously in Atta Kathi and Madras.

Film: "Onbathula Guru"; Actors: Vinay Rai, Premgi Amaren, Lakshmi Rai, Aravind Akash, Sathyan, Jagan, Mantra, Roopashree and Sona Heiden; Director: P.T Selvakumar; Rating: *
Imagine and write down a list of things that could possibly make a bad, really bad film. Having made your list, carry it along and go to the nearest cinema hall to watch "Onbathula Guru", provided it's running. If not, save yourself the torture.
As you watch the film, you would be surprised to find that everything you have put down on the piece of paper is evident on screen. Now, there's no reason to pat your back because it's the sheer carelessness of the director that you could score a centum in this exercise.
If you plan on making a documentary.

Review: GoaCast: Jai, Vaibhav Reddy, Premji Amaran, Sneha, Piaa Bajpai, Melanie Marie, Aravind Akash, Sampath RajDirection: Venkat PrabhuRating: * Two-film old Venkat Prabhu calls his latest Goa (in Tamil) a holiday adventure set in the western State, whose traditional culture of feni, fun and a dash of Portugal have now given way to sheer notoriety. Just days before the movie’s opening on January 29 came the news of a nine-year-old Russian girl being molested on the beaches of Goa, one of a string of brutal incidents that included murder and rape of foreign women. So when the three friends ...

First let’s take off with the film’s verdict that should probably save your time from reading this review itself. Of course, we believe reading this complete review is itself a waste of time if you have already booked the tickets. But for those, who haven’t, there’s a big chance to escape from this annoying Venkat Prabhu holiday. This isn’t a Holiday actually, but a pestiferous show filled with lethargic moments.
‘Goa’ – it really makes us doubt whether Venkat Prabhu has really shot the film over there. Naturally, most of the sequences look to be canned on Ecr beaches. Pulling in bikini babes and projecting couple of montages doesn’t mean that it’s Goa.
