The councils are at war. If you pledge your loyalty to the Black Council, you can watch the Black Trailer. If you are a supporter of the Green Council, you can view the Green Trailer. Or if you’re just in excited anticipation of the new season of the Game of Thrones series, you can watch them both. HBO has just released two trailers, by way of Deadline, that tell of the upcoming civil conflict for the control of The Iron Throne. In October of 2022, the first season of House of the Dragon left audiences with a sense of impending war as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen found herself laced with rage and coming to a decision to battle for the throne. The second season suffered some delay due to last year’s dual union strikes, but wait no more. The Green and Black trailers showcase this season’s story from the...

House of the Dragon fans have been anxiously awaiting word on the release of season 2 of the fantasy series. It was previously reported that the series would debut sometime this summer, but that date has just been narrowed down a little more.
Warner Bros. Discovery streaming and gaming chief J.B. Perrette revealed (via Variety) that House of the Dragon season 2 will premiere on HBO in June but didn’t specify an exact date. The first season was a surprisingly big success for HBO, and I only say “surprisingly” because I honestly wasn’t sure if fans would be willing to return to Westeros after the disappointment following the Games of Thrones finale. Will the second season be able to keep the momentum going? HBO certainly hopes so, as they’re said to be actively developing seasons 3 and 4 of the series.

The creator behind the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon has given his verdict on the first two episodes of season two.
Writing on his Not a Blog website, George R.R. Martin related how he visited the set of what he termed “Hot D” for three days while it was being shot.
“All I have to say about that is… ohmigod! I am no stranger to film sets. I have worked off and on in television and film since 1986, where I joined the staff of the Twilight Zone revival at CBS. I still recall the rush where I saw them building Stonehenge on the sound stage behind my office, for an episode I’d written. And of course I visited the Game Of Thrones shoots in Belfast, Scotland, Morocco, and Malta. Those were incredible too.

The first trailer for the second season of House of the Dragon dropped over the weekend, but work is already underway on what will be seasons 3 and 4 of the HBO series.
George R.R. Martin took to his blog to write about a recent trip to London, which included a visit to the studio where House of the Dragon was shot. “I also spent two days locked in a room with Ryan Condal and his writing staff talking about the third and fourth seasons of House Of The Dragon,” Martin wrote. “They were lively, fun discussions, and we got some good work done… though two days was not nearly enough. There is so much ground to cover that I am not sure twenty days would have been enough.“

The Nevers was cancelled and pulled from HBO Max last year, but the second half of the first (and now only) season never aired. Thankfully, fans of the series will get the chance to watch those unseen episodes as The Nevers will soon be available to stream on Tubi.
Set in Victorian London, The Nevers follows a group of people, mostly women, known as the Touched, who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious and quick-fisted widow, and her best friend Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant inventor. The series was created by Joss Whedon, who departed halfway through its production and was replaced by Philippa Goslett.

The Nevers, one of the many shows pulled off HBO Max, has finally landed at its new home on Tubi, with all 12 episodes becoming available on the platform starting February 13. The episodes will release in a brief window during this time, and executive producer and showrunner Philippa Goslett divulged to TVLine some new information about six never-before-seen episodes that will premiere on Tubi the same day. The Nevers is set against the backdrop of Victorian London in August of 1896. During that time, a supernatural event rocks the city and leaves specific individuals bestowed with special abilities ranging from “wondrous to disturbing.” Their abilities are referred to as “turns,” and these gifted humans are pushed into a new underclass filled with danger. When it becomes clear this new class needs protection, widow Amalia True (Outlander‘s Laura Donnelly) and young inventor Penance Adair (Vikings‘ Ann Skelly) take it upon themselves. The Nevers also stars Olivia Williams,...

There are more shake-ups at HBO Max as Joss Whedon‘s The Nevers and Sam Boyd‘s Love Life are set to be pulled from the streamer, along with the recently canceled HBO series Westworld. Now fans are wondering if The Nevers, which was scheduled to air the second half of its first season on HBO in 2023, will broadcast its remaining episodes on another platform. The back half of Season 1 was completed under new showrunner Philippa Goslett, following the exit of Whedon, who left the show before it debuted in Spring 2021. Meanwhile, the Anna Kendrick-led Love Life will have both its seasons pulled from HBO Max. The anthology rom-com series aired its first season in May 2020, with Season 2 premiering in October 2021. It marks the second Lionsgate-produced series to be canceled by HBO Max this week, as the comedy series Minx was also axed despite previously being renewed for...

Despite its recent cancellation, you would expect that a series as acclaimed as Westworld would remain on HBO Max for future viewing, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Deadline has reported that Westworld, as well as The Nevers, will be removed from HBO Max. This seems to be yet another cost-cutting measure from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, but it likely won’t sit well with fans who expect to be able to watch HBO shows on the studio’s own streaming services.
Deadline hears that both Westworld and The Nevers are “likely to resurface on other company platforms” after they are removed from HBO Max. This also marks the official cancellation of The Nevers, which aired the first half of its debut season last year. The second half of the first season hasn’t been scheduled, but with the series being removed from HBO Max,...

“The Nevers” has been canceled halfway through its first season by HBO. The Joss Whedon-created sci-fi drama will be pulled from streaming on HBO Max, along with the recently canceled HBO series “Westworld,” Variety has confirmed.
The Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly-led “The Nevers,” which aired Part 1 of its first season in Spring 2021, was set to debut the back half of Season 1 next year on HBO. Sources close to the situation say it’s possible that the already finished batch of episodes — which were completed under new showrunner Philippa Goslett, who came on board following the exit of Whedon before the show even debuted — will air on another platform.
“Westworld” was canceled by HBO Nov. 4, just under three months after the series aired its Season 4 finale Aug. 14.

Production will begin on Part 2 of the first season of HBO’s “The Nevers” on Tuesday in the U.K., TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Season 1A of the Joss Whedon-created sci-fi series, which stars Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly, was shot last year, with a pandemic-forced shutdown hitting after Episode 6 was completed. New showrunner Philippa Goslett, who took over for Whedon in January following his exit from the show last fall, mapped out the back half of the first season of “The Nevers” with her writers’ room while Part 1 was premiering on HBO this spring.
Donnelly, Skelly and the rest of “The Nevers” cast are all returning for Part 2, which consists of six episodes that will pick up where the final episode of Part 1 left off when it aired on May 16. (Need a refresher? Head over here to find TheWrap’s interview with Donnelly and Skelly about the finale.

The following contains major spoilers for The Nevers episode 6.
The star of HBO sci-fi series The Nevers has never shied away from the fact that the show’s sixth episode would be a big one.
“Six is an extraordinary episode,” Donnelly (who plays Amalia True) told Den of Geek prior to the series premiere. “It provides a lot of the answers to the questions that the audience might have. It seemed like a very natural cut-off point.”
Whether episode 6, titled “True”, is a natural cut-off point remains to be seen. Due to the coronavirus pandemic suspending production, the show’s initial 10-episode first season order was shortened to six and “Part 2” (containing six more episodes for a total of 12) is set to arrive at a later date. It’s hard to argue though that episode 6 is anything but extraordinary.

The Nevers has gotten off to a great start for HBO. Sunday night’s premiere of the Victorian science fiction drama series drew just over 1.4 million viewers across linear telecasts and digital, including the best start for a new HBO Original on HBO Max, according to the premium cabler. The debut episode surpassed viewership for premieres of recent HBO dramas including Lovecraft Country and The Undoing, and viewership is expected to grow via additional telecasts and viewing across platforms, HBO said.

“The Nevers,” Joss Whedon’s steampunk brainchild and HBO’s latest original series, drew over 1.4 million viewers across linear telecasts and digital during its premiere on Sunday night. The show scored the best debut for a new original series on HBO Max and surpassed viewership for other popular shows on the streamer, including Misha Green’s horror drama “Lovecraft Country” and David E. Kelley’s psychological thriller “The Undoing.” This preliminary number will likely increase significantly as viewing across HBO’s platforms and additional telecasts are factored in.
Per the logline, the fantastical, sci-fi period drama set in Victorian London takes place after the supernatural events of August 1896, in which certain people — mostly women — are granted extraordinarily abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing. But, no matter their particular “turns” (aka powers), all who belong to this new underclass of “The Touched” are in grave danger. It all falls to mysterious,...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Sunday’s series premiere of HBO’s “The Nevers.”)
HBO’s “The Nevers” debuted Sunday with an episode that, in typical fantasy-series fashion, gave viewers many more questions than answers by its end. But not to worry, because Laura Donnelly, who stars on the Joss Whedon-created series as quick-fisted, future-seeing widow Amalia True, told TheWrap that all will be revealed in due time.
Actually, she promised the biggest explainers will come by Episode 6, which is the end of Part 1 of Season 1 of “The Nevers,” though it wasn’t initially intended to serve as any kind of finale.
“I can tell you that it certainly all gets explained. But the question is, what am I allowed to tell you?” Donnelly told TheWrap. “When it comes to these spoilers, there is no point in me telling you what happens in Episode 6, right? That has to be experienced.

When The Nevers‘ first footage dropped earlier this year, I distinctly remember thinking, “Ooh, it’s steampunk Buffy with corsets!” Now that the drama, created by Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s Joss Whedon, has released its first four episodes to the press, I can confirm: It is, indeed, steampunk Buffy with corsets — and for several reasons, that’s no longer an enticing concept.
For sure, The Nevers is of a piece with Whedon’s kickass-girl-power oeuvre, which includes Buffy and Dollhouse, as well as elements in Angel, Firefly and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The period drama, which premieres Sunday (HBO, 9/8c...

Joss Whedon’s fantasy series “The Nevers” premieres Sunday on HBO. The show, which Whedon exited for personal reasons after the first six episodes of Season 1 had wrapped production, stars Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly as the leaders of a group of people who have spontaneously developed supernatural abilities in Victorian England. Within the show’s universe, these outliers are referred to as “The Touched.”
So then why is the show called “The Nevers” — a term which you actually never hear used in the show’s first episode?
“Joss had said way back at the beginning, before we went into production, that it speaks to the concept of these people who should have never existed,” Donnelly, who plays Amalia True, a quick-fisted widow with the ability to see glimpses of the future, told TheWrap. “They are seen as an abomination in society and, therefore, they should have never been. It takes a minute for “The Nevers” to feel like something other than a steampunk “Doctor Who” interlude in Victorian London where, despite stubbornly buttoned-up appearances, things aren’t quite as they seem. The new HBO drama, which follows a group of women who have been “touched” by some mysterious power that grants them extraordinary abilities, unabashedly embraces its cross-section of genres. It’s a historical drama awash in lush costuming and production design. It’s a sci-fi epic unraveling the mysteries of the universe. It’s a screwball comedy and Harlequin romance starring quick-witted heroines, surly detectives and devastatingly handsome heirs. Even when it errs towards the silly, it’s fun and twisty enough to be an engaging page-turner of a show that should grow its own fanbase without much trouble.

The Nevers should be a triumphant TV homecoming for Joss Whedon. It’s the first series in more than a decade solely created by the man responsible for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly. (He co-created Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. back in 2013 with brother Jed Whedon and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen, and wasn’t really involved past the pilot episode.) It is his first dance with premium cable, after spending the earlier phase of his career working for broadcast networks with either low budgets or minimal faith in his ideas.

“The Nevers” star Laura Donnelly was cast as the lead in Joss Whedon’s supernatural drama in April 2019, which came nearly a year after it was ordered straight to series at HBO. Now, almost two years later, the “Outlander” alum is just weeks away from seeing the world Whedon created debut on screen.
And while Donnelly, her co-star Ann Skelly and the other “Nevers” cast members are still inhabitants of Whedon’s sci-fi Victorian England world, with the pandemic-delayed second half of Season 1 in the works, the architect himself decided to move out last fall.
“I found out the same way that everybody else did — well, HBO let us know. And I was gutted, because I had a wonderful experience working with him,” Donnelly told TheWrap on Wednesday of Whedon’s decision to exit “The Nevers” on Nov. 25. “And it was a real joy to go to work every day.

HBO released the trailer for its Joss Whedon-created drama series “The Nevers” on Tuesday, featuring stars Laura Donnelly and Ann Skelly as the leaders of a group of “touched” people in Victorian England who are feared by those without their abnormal gifts.
In the video, which you can view above, the mysterious Amalia True (Donnelly) and Penance Adair (Skelly) band together to protect their fellow supernatural people from those threatened by them. This includes the local authorities, who say they want “the wicked punished and the good protected” — but have a skewed idea of who is who.

HBO and HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys says there were “no complaints” about Joss Whedon before he exited his sci-fi series “The Nevers” last fall.
“No, we had no, no complaints or no reports of inappropriate behavior,” Bloys told TheWrap on Wednesday, hours after “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel” alum Charisma Carpenter accused Whedon of “hostile and toxic” behavior on the set of both WB shows, and voiced her support for “Justice League” star Ray Fisher in his own allegations against Whedon.
Representatives for Whedon declined to comment on Carpenter’s accusations Wednesday.
Whedon announced he was stepping down as showrunner on “The Nevers” on Nov. 25, 2020, a few months after Fisher accused Whedon of “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” behavior on the set of Warner Bros.’ 2017 film “Justice League,” which Whedon led reshoots on after original director Zack Snyder had to step away due to a family tragedy.

‘Mary Magdalene’
Thirteen months after Mary Magdalene perished at Australian cinemas, the Biblical saga directed by Garth Davis probably did not have a prayer of getting a warmer reception in the Us.
So it proved last weekend as the See-Saw Films production starring Rooney Mara, Joaquin Phoenix and Chiwetel Ejiofor was released on 62 screens by IFC Films.
Meanwhile Anthony Maras’ Hotel Mumbai continues to earn tidy sums in the Us for Bleecker Street/ShivHans Pictures. The thriller starring Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi, Anupam Kher, Jason Isaacs and Tilda Cobham-Hervey collected $863,000 in its third weekend wide, playing on 617 screens.
The film produced by Basil Iwanyk, Gary Hamilton, Mike Gabrawy, Julie Ryan, Andrew Ogilvie and Jomon Thomas has generated $8 million in the Us, outperforming Australia’s $3.1 million after five weekends, never having recovered from opening on the same weekend as the Christchurch massacre.

Philippa Goslett is the screenwriter of “Mary Magdalene,” the movie that looks at the life of Jesus from the perspective of his most famous contemporary female follower. The film stars Rooney Mara, Joaquin Phoenix, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tahar Rahim and is being released by IFC Films in the U.S. on Friday. Goslett’s previous work includes “Little Ashes,” with Robert Pattinson as Salvador Dali, and Neil Gaiman adaptation “How to Talk to Girls at Parties.” With severalnfilm and TV projects in the works, Goslett tells Variety about world-building and finding the viewpoint of the outsider.

There’s so much talent involved in the production of Mary Magdalene, you know it would only sit on the shelf for so long. Caught up in the dissolution of The Weinstein Company, it now hits theaters this week, a year or so after when it was figured to arrive. For some, this will be a must see curiosity. Unfortunately, for most it’ll just be a disappointment. Despite all of the talent that came together for the movie, they can’t grt it to engage with the audience. It remains stuck in neutral. Even after seeing it, you’ll almost certainly be left wondering what all the fuss once upon a time was about. The film is a biblical drama, telling the story of, you guessed it, Mary Magdalene (Rooney Mara). A woman unsure of her place in the world, she’s only sure that she wants more than...

Setting out to tell the story of Jesus’ last days from the point of view of the only woman among the apostles is the brave and interesting aim of Garth Davis’ “Mary Magdalene.”
At the film’s premiere in London last year — the film’s U.S. release was delayed due to the bankruptcy of its former distributor, The Weinstein Company — the Australian director claimed his film would “celebrate the remarkable spiritual contribution of Mary that has remained hidden for 2,000 years.” Again, a laudable ambition had it not been revealed a few minutes before that the National Gallery, the venue for the event, held no less than 50 painted images of Mary Magdalene on its walls. Maybe all of those representations have been wrong.

Davis, riding high on the success of his Oscar-nominated 2016 hit “Lion,” turns the camera on Rooney Mara as his Mary, a headstrong girl from the rock-strewn fishing village of Magdala,...

There is one compelling reason to see Mary Magdalene, Lion director Garth Davis’ long-delayed drama, a notorious casualty of the death of the Weinstein Company. It is not the work of the director, a talented filmmaker who has crafted a slow-moving Biblical epic that fails to engage. It is not the presence of Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Jesus of Nazareth as a loving but ever-pained martyr. Nor is it the typically strong work of Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays Peter with a fire Phoenix surprisingly lacks. And it is not the script by Helen Edmundson and Philippa Goslett, which succeeds in establishing the time and place but feels like a slog through an oft-dramatized story.
The reason, as may be clear, is Rooney Mara. As Mary of Magdala, the close follower of Jesus Christ and one of history’s most mischaracterized figures, Mara is simultaneously strong-willed, emotionally shattered, and spiritually enlightened.

“I will not be silent,” says the title character of Mary Magdalene at the end of this new trailer, and it’s as good a metaphor as any for the film itself. Recently acquired by IFC Films after getting mired in The Weinstein Company collapse for several years, Garth Davis’ film starring Rooney Mara in the title role now has a pre-Easter April 12 release date.
Mary Magdalene also stars Joaquin Phoenix and Chiwetel Ejiofor – as Jesus and Peter, respectively, and was written by Helen Edmundson and Philippa Goslett.
In a director’s statement, Davis (Lion) has said that, with so many versions of the Biblical story put on film over the decades, producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman sought to approach “a familiar story in a new and original way” and “from a different perspective.”
