Updated with closing stock price: AMC Entertainment shares fell more than 14% Thursday to close at $3.72 on jitters over the company’s financial health. The nation’s biggest theater chain said early in the day it might sell up to $250 million-worth of stock, citing a low first-quarter box office. Shares were down more than 16% before the opening bell.
The company said in an SEC filing it intends to use the net proceeds, if any, from the sale “to bolster liquidity, to repay, refinance, redeem or repurchase its existing indebtedness and for general corporate purposes.”
Reasons for the offering, it said, are to enhance “liquidity in light of the low first quarter box office, resulting in part as previously disclosed from” Hollywood strikes last year, as well as “increased seasonal working capital requirements, and the resulting cash burn the Company has experienced.”

Shares of Lionsgate are trading higher after Barrington Research issued an upgrade to overweight and set a price target of $12 for the Hollywood studio.
Analyst James Goss in a Monday investors note said Lionsgate after many delays unveiling plans to spin off its film and TV studio business from Starz via a Spac deal promises greater shareholder value for the studio and its TV streaming assets after the Hollywood major considered strategic alternatives.
Goss argued the Spac deal, expected to close in April, heralds “a publicly traded subset of the studio business that would provide both some public affirmation of value and create a focus on the studio identity, while also drawing somewhat of a line in the sand in terms of transaction timing.”
Also Monday, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer in an SEC filing disclosed he picked up 100,000 shares in the studio. Feltheimer acquired 50,000 class A share at an average...

“He’s saying you need to stop,” companion Donna Noble tells the Fourteenth Doctor after the Fifteenth Doctor lists off a litany of adventures from the first Doctor on. A pained expression covers Fourteen as he admits, “I don’t know how.”
That confession rings true for viewers, and not just because it comes from David Tennant, who is both a great actor and a frequent returnee to Doctor Who, most recently for the three 60th Anniversary Specials. And it’s not just because we know the Doctor as a person on the move. Ever since the character’s introduction in 1963, the Doctor has been defined by restlessness. Even when grounded on Earth, as was the case for the Third Doctor, or stuck defending a base under siege, the Doctor does not sit still. They search for answers, save the day, and then off...

Elijah Wood is not a fan.
Shortly after AMC Theatres announced that it would be charging moviegoers more money for a better view of the screen, the “Lord of the Rings” star unloaded on the cinema chain. “The movie theater is and always has been a sacred democratic space for all,” Wood wrote on Twitter. “This new initiative by AMC Theatres would essentially penalize people for lower income and reward for higher income.”
But whether or not movie theaters have historically lived up to the kind of lofty egalitarian ideal Wood espoused, the fact remains that in recent years, the hard-hit exhibition industry has been experimenting with different types of ticket prices as a way to reinvigorate sales. And no company in the sector has been more aggressive with trying new strategies to revive its balance sheet in the wake of Covid than AMC.

We might have only had one season, plus a couple of specials, of David Tennant and Catherine Tate’s amazing chemistry as the Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble on screen, but thankfully the two Doctor Who icons have been giving us new adventures for the duo over the past few years, since they started making audio dramas for Big Finish Productions.
Following a couple of boxsets of The Tenth Doctor Adventures, the latest release featuring the pair is Donna Noble: Kidnapped, a spinoff series focusing on Tate’s companion. Set following 2008’s “Forest of the Dead,” when Donna is taking a break from her time travels, Tate’s co-lead in this collection of four stories is her former The Catherine Tate Show co-star Niki Wardley. However, Tennant will pop up for a brief cameo in the final adventure.

It’s been nearly a decade since she last appeared on the show, but Catherine Tate hasn’t stayed away from the world of Doctor Who for good. Since 2016, she’s been reprising the role of Donna Noble opposite David Tennant in Big Finish Productions’ The Tenth Doctor Adventures audio drama series. In her next outing, however, Tate will be going at it alone, meaning Donna will be the star for once.
Big Finish has announced that a new boxset titled Donna Noble: Kidnapped! is on its way. The four stories will see the Doctor nowhere to be found with Donna left to pilot the Tardis by herself and go around saving the universe in his stead. She’ll even get her own companion in the form of Nat (Niky Wardley), who’s described as “everything Donna isn’t – a career woman, happily married, successful, and confident.”

The Tenth Doctor and Donna Noble are back in the Tardis for another round of adventures in space and time! It’s been almost 10 years since David Tennant and Catherine Tate both appeared on TV’s Doctor Who – in 2010’s New Year’s Day special “The End of Time: Part Two” – but the dynamic duo are side by side again for a new boxset of audio dramas from Big Finish Productions.
Tennant and Tate previously reunited for the first volume of The Tenth Doctor Adventures back in 2017, with the second release featuring Tennant alongside Billie Piper’s Rose Tyler instead. Tate’s back on board for volume three though, as is the whole of the Noble family, with Jacqueline King and fan favorite Bernard Cribbins reprising their roles as Donna’s mother Sylvia Noble and her granddad Wilfred Mott.
Producer David Richardson explained that the idea to bring back Wilf came from ex-showrunner,...

Over Doctor Who's long history, what prompted the decision to leave for those in the lead role?
All sorts of things have killed off the Doctor. In the last half century, Doctor Who's unique approach to recasting the lead character has seen him fettled by old age, as punishment, by radiation poisoning, falls big and small, dodgy operations and time itself. There are plenty of in-universe reasons for why the Doctor regenerates, and the outgoing Time Lord Peter Capaldi promises that his upcoming demise will be suitably timey-wimey, but what of the behind-the-scenes reasons that the Doctor has to go?
