Melissa Young is a multifaceted Producer/Writer/Director, who has more than 15 years of experience in the film industry. In 2023, Melissa served as Producer and Line Producer for "A La Carte Season 2", the streamer, AllBLK's highest-rated show. In 2022, Melissa served as Line Producer for the Bounce TV episodic series, Finding Happy and Johnsons, both of which went on to become two of the streamer's highest-rated shows. In 2021, Melissa served as Line Producer for the Lions Gate Features, "The Devil You Know" and "For the Love of Money". In 2020, Melissa began a short tenure as Production Supervisor for Tyler Perry's "Assisted Living", "House of Payne", "Sistas", The Oval, Ruthless, "All the Queens Men", and "Madea's Homecoming". While at Tyler Perry Studios, Melissa served as Production Supervisor for a total of 114 episodes of television. Between 2017 and 2018, Melissa took her skills to Nina Holiday Entertainment in Atlanta, GA, where she served as Line Producer/UPM for features Hip-Hop Holiday, OPEN, The Baby Proposal, and the BET Her Limited series The Waiting Room. While at Nina Holiday Entertainment, Melissa also served as Associate Producer for the TV One Feature, "Merry Wishmas". Melissa has served as Writer/Director for multiple short films, commercials, and music videos, throughout her career, including her short "Fireflies and Junebugs", which is a Paul Robeson award winner. She served as Producer for the HBO/Gordon Parks award winning short, "Money Matters" and the award winning short film Ariana. Her feature script "Good Noble" was an ABFF/ GMC Scriptwriting Competition Finalist.
Melissa first cut her teeth in production as a Producing Assistant to Emmy Award winning Executive Producer Bob T. Reid on shows "Shark Week Live" and "Twister Week" at The Discovery Channel.
Melissa is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she received one of only two prestigious Dean's Fellowships, and The Benjamin F Hooks Fellowship to pursue her M.F.A. in Motion Picture Directing. She received her B.A. at Howard University in Washington D.C., where she studied Film and Television Production with a minor in Acting and Musical Theater.
In 2023, Melissa wrote and directed the short "8", scheduled for release in 2024. In 2024 Melissa was named as a member of the Shondaland/Netflix Line Producer Initiative cohort.
