In Thursday night’s Jeffrey Donovan-centric episode of “Law & Order,” titled “Appraisal,” his character Frank Cosgrove and partner Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) suspect a gallery owner has been murdered but have no body to prove their case.
In a video clip exclusively shared with TheWrap of the episode, which you can watch at the top of this story, Cosgrove assures the missing woman’s brother that he’ll do everything he can to find her. He also tells the man, “Prepare yourself,” since he believes that the sister is dead, murdered like one of her artist friends who was at the opening night event the night before.
In photos from the episode, Cosgrove reluctantly celebrates his 50th birthday and questions a suspect.
“Appraisal” also features guest stars Nicholas Podany, Kate Jennings Grant, Christina Brucato, Patrick Mulvey Adam Smith Jr., Gina Daniels, Atticus Cain and Brenda Luz Orellana.

The first episode of “61st Street” lays the foundation for a story that’s become all too familiar on television and in reality alike. Over eight episodes, AMC’s new drama (executive produced by Michael B. Jordan) depicts the before, during, and frantic after of a Chicago drug bust that ends in two deaths: Rufus (Kevin Tre’von Patterson), a Black teen with deep roots in the community, and Offer Mike Rossi (Patrick Mulvey), who had been quietly investigating his precinct for corruption before this fateful day. While the cops call Rufus’ death an open and shut case of an officer defending himself, they pin Rossi’s on Moses Johnson (Tosin Cole), a promising track star caught in the wrong place at the wrong time while trying to get his brother Joshua (Bentley Green) home, before an accidental brush with Rossi sent the cop’s head into a protruding pipe, killing him almost instantly.

“61st Street” tracks the infamy of the Chicago criminal justice system as police, prosecutors, politicians, and defense attorneys investigate a deadly drug bust that threatens an enduring code of silence. It’s the latest entry in a spate of television series (and movies) — inspired by peak public outrage over unjustified police killings of Black men and women — that foregrounds the experiences of African Americans navigating historically prejudiced institutions. For that reason primarily, “61st Street’ will be familiar. It also doesn’t go out of its way to separate itself from its peers and predecessors. But thanks to convincing performances by a cast led by Emmy winner Courtney B. Vance, Emmy nominee Aunjanue Ellis, and Holt McCallany at maybe his most devious — complete with a propulsive pace — the AMC+ series mostly enthralls.
