Punk pioneers the Buzzcocks unveiled two new songs, “Gotta Get Better” and “Destination Zero,” marking their first tracks since the death of frontman Pete Shelley in 2018.
Since Shelley’s death, guitarist Steve Diggle has taken over lead vocal duties, and “Gotta Get Better” is actually a reworking of a solo track Diggle released back in 2014. In the Buzzcocks’ hands, “Gotta Get Better” is a nice bit of power-pop that finds Diggle driving home the song’s titular affirmation over a blast of guitars and breakneck drums. The song even boasts...

Anybody who laughs at Status Quo's musicianship (including the Radio 1 powers that be that unceremoniously threw them off the station's playlist) obviously haven't counted the 118 million albums the band have sold worldwide in their three decades as a band. Or remembered how they kickstarted Live Aid in 1985 with just the right amount of vroom to help ensure the enduring success of the day.
The Quo - still going strong
Now, like any self-respecting pillars of the rock establishment, the Quo have got a rockumentary all of their own, charting their success and with contributions from such like-minded luminaries as Brian May, Paul Weller, Sir Cliff, Thin Lizzy and Buzzcocks. The list goes on...

Now, with the release of the fly-on-the-wall documentary Hello Quo!, the boys are set to conquer yet another media outlet. Produced by well-known music filmmaker Alan G Parker, the documentary depicts the phenomenon that is Status Quo, combining behind-the-scenes, never before seen footage with fantastic interviews from Brian May, Paul Weller, Sir Cliff Richard, Thin Lizzy, Buzzcocks, Slade and Midge Ure (to name but a few).

Buzzcocks will reportedly play two special shows next March featuring different lineups from across their career. The current band - Pete Shelley, Steve Diggle, Chris Remmington and Danny Farrant - will start the shows, before Remmington and Farrant make way for Steve Garvey and John Maher to recreate the group's classic 1978-1979 lineup, Louder Than War reports. It is suggested that Garvey will then depart the stage and be replaced by founding frontman Howard Devoto. The band will then play tracks from their era-defining Spiral Scratch Ep and songs which later appeared in demo form on Times Up. It is thought that the shows will take place at the Manchester Apollo on May 25 and London's Brixton Academy on May 26. Devoto, real name Howard Trafford, and Shelley, real name Peter McNeish, founded Buzzcocks (more)...

Former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren has been laid to rest at a funeral service in North London. McLaren passed away earlier this month from rare cancer mesothelioma. He was 64. Dame Vivienne Westwood, Adam Ant, Tracey Emin, the Buzzcocks' Steve Diggle and Sir Bob Geldof attended the funeral of the man once called "the godfather of punk". His coffin, which featured the slogan "too fast to live, too young to die", was carried on a horse-drawn carriage. Mourners were transported to St Mary Magdalene's church in a green double decker bus emblazoned with the words: "Malcolm was here 1946-2010." The vehicle blasted Sid Vicious's version of 'My Way' while traveling through Camden. The 200 attendees also sang along to McLaren's version of the Max Bygraves song 'You Need Hands'. A white floral tribute spelled (more)...
