Darren Lynn Bousman’s remake of Mother’s Day was expected to be released in the Us earlier this year, but we haven’t had a status update in quite some time. The film has been released in a number of other countries and is already available on Blu-ray/DVD in the UK. While Mother’s Day won’t see a 2011 release in the Us, we now have confirmation that Anchor Bay has acquired the film for Us distribution.
According to Deadline, Anchor Bay is looking to release the film on or near Mother’s Day in 2012, which falls on May 13th. Starring Rebecca De Mornay, Deborah Ann Woll, Shawn Ashmore, and Lisa Marcos, Mother’s Day is a remake of the 1980 Troma film:

I hope you're excited, because I am! Anonymously showing up in my inbox this morning was an exclusive leaked clip (probably in preperation for Efm this week) from Darren Lynn Bousman's hotly anticipated Mother's Day! The scene, which I like to cal "Show & Tell", features a tense moment between Mother (Rebecca De Mornay) and the tied up Daniel Sohapi (Frank Grillo). "Now its time for show and tell," exclaims Mornay. "I am gonna show, and you Are gonna tell." The moment continues as she pushes deep into Daniel's past, burning a photo of his dead son before giving a partygoer a little alcohol bath (yikes!) The clip then evolves into a montage of footage featuring stars Jaime King, Deborah Ann Woll, Briana Evigan, Alexa Vega, Shawn Ashmore, Matt O'Leary, Lyriq Bent, Lisa Marcos, Patrick Flueger, Aj Cook, J. Larose, and Warren Kole.

I guess that’s why we’re being subjected to so many remakes & reboots instead of new stuff. Darren Lynn Bousman’s (Saw II, III, IV) version of the 1980 Kaufman’s classic stars everyone’s favorite psycho chick with mom issues from the 90’s Rebecca De Mornay (The Hand That Rocks The Cradle) as, you guessed it, the psycho mother to three fugitives who come back home to the family home to hide out. Problem is, it’s no longer their house and the new occupants are in for a night of pure torture and terror. The film also stars Jaime King (My Bloody Valentine, Fanboys, The Tripper, Sin City), Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood), Briana Evigan (Sorority Row, Step Up 2), Alexa Vega (Repo! The Genetic Opera), Shawn Ashmore (Frozen, Hatchet II, The Ruins), Matt O’Leary (Sorority Row, American Bully, Live Free or Die Hard, Frailty), Lyriq Bent (Saw II,...

Rebecca De MornayMother's Day recently signed a distribution deal with Gigapix to show in up to 1500 theatres throughout 2011 (Uhm). The remake has been directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, who is best known for his work on the Saw series and the film will stay with the torturous themes. Have a look at two stills from the film until more news develops on this Twisted Pictures production.

Horror remakes are definitely the hot new trend in Hollywood and I had no idea just how many remakes were being planned until I sat down and drew up a list of as many as I could find. I stopped at 7 pages and needless to say it seems that just about every movie you can imagine is getting a remake-prequel or reboot into 3D.
Here is a pretty complete list of upcoming horror remakes as of today in alphabetical order. Note: There are a few on this list that are only in the early phases of discussion and in some cases I included franchise reboots as well.
13 Tzameti: Starting the list off 13 Tzameti is more thriller then horror but still worthy of making the list. The film which started filming in New York awhile back will star Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham. The original film is a tale of Russian roulette with gruesome outcomes.
