“Parks and Recreation” debuted April 9, 2009, just three months after Barack Obama’s inauguration. A perfect alignment, one might think, considering how much the NBC sitcom embodied the 44’s “Yes we can” spirit. However, the tone of its much-neglected, much-derided first season was more akin to the Bush era: cynical, polarizing, and slightly clueless.
Subsequently, its opening six episodes have largely been consigned to history: the general advice to newcomers is skip them entirely and start with the sunnier second season. But while the show undoubtedly benefited from its course correction, its initial glimpse into the fictional Pawnee’s madcap P&r department isn’t the disaster often purported.
Much of the criticism inevitably focused on its similarities to “The Office.” The show was conceived as a spin-off from the corporate satire after all, and shares a creator (Greg Daniels), cast member (Rashida Jones), and mockumentary format. Its premiere was even...

Pawnee has taken on Hollywood, as cast members of Parks and Recreation teamed up to join the picket line amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. L’il Sebastian even helped the Parks and Rec team say (K)nope to the AMPTP!
Major Parks and Rec cast members included Adam Scott (Ben Wyatt), Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson), Aubrey Plaza (April Ludgate), Jim O’Heir (Jerry/Garry Gergich), Retta (Donna Meagle), and Ben Schwartz (Jean-Ralphio Saperstein), while those that played smaller characters – Alison Becker (Shauna Malwae-Tweep), Colton Dunn (Brett), Kirk Fox (Sewage Joe), Joe Mande (Morris Lerpiss), Susan Yeagley (Jessica Wicks), and Allan McLeod (Trodd Frankensteip) also turned up. Even Sam Elliott, who turned 79 just a couple days before and played Ron Swanson’s Eagleton rival in three episodes, made an appearance. Schwartz shared a few photos on social media:

Several members of the “Parks and Recreation” cast reunited this week — not for a reboot or TV special, but on the picket line as they join the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Ben Schwartz — who played the recurring role of Jean-Ralphio Saperstein on the beloved NBC sitcom — took to Instagram to share a series of photos in which he’s joined by fellow “Parks and Rec” alums, including Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Retta and Jim O’Heir.
Also pictured are “Parks and Recs” recurring guest stars Allan McLeod, Kirk Fox, Colton Dunn and Alison Becker, in addition with series writer Joe Mande, with everyone holding picket signs.

The cast of Parks and Recreation reunited on the picket line as the stars and crew members came together to fight for a better contract with the studios.
Amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, the cast of the NBC sitcom was seen outside the Amazon Studios in Culver City.
The picketers on the scene included Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Nick Offerman, Retta, Jim O’Heir, Ben Schwartz, Alison Becker, Kirk Fox, Joe Mande, Susan Yeagley, Allan McLeod and Colton Dunn.
Alongside the Parks and Recreation stars, Li’l Sebastian, Pawnee’s famous miniature horse, also made an appearance.
April Ludgate, the character that Plaza played in the comedy, famously had a feud with Rashida Jones’s Ann Perkins. Plaza made reference to that with her picket sign that read, “Ann Perkins works for the AMPTP.”

When Mouse Rat sang "Maybe someday we'll saddle up again," this must have been what they meant: famed "Parks and Recreation" mini horse Li'l Sebastian was spotted on the WGA and SAG-AFTRA picket line yesterday, despite having canonically passed away back in 2011. The sweet horsie's return came in the middle of a near-total cast reunion for the beloved NBC sitcom, and was captured for posterity on Jean-Ralphio actor Ben Schwartz's Instagram.
"Lil Sebastian made a rare public appearance to support the #sagaftrastrike #wgastrike alongside some people who understand how amazing he is," Schwartz wrote, sharing photos of a mini horse wearing with a pretty blond mane wearing a purple "#7 Lil Sebastian" jersey.

This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
One of the plot elements in the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "Trusted Sources," is that the U.S.S. Cerritos is going to be scrutinized by a visiting journalist named Victoria (Alison Becker). She is ready to interview crew members, and is always accompanied by a levitating camera. She is on the ship to write a story about a new initiative proposed by Captain Freeman that would direct Starfleet vessels to follow up on alien species that hadn't been heard from in years. The initiative is an excuse for "Lower Decks" to make sequels to any random episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" that they pleased under the storytelling auspices of standard operating procedure.
The episode they choose to revisit is "Symbiosis," an episode from NextGen's first season. That episode saw the U.

Exclusive: Glow star Kimmy Gatewood and Parks and Recreation actress Alison Becker have sold their comedy script, Girlworld, to Amazon Studios. The pic, described as a rowdy and surreal feminist comedy that takes place in an alternate universe, is being produced by Ben Stiller and Nicholas Weinstock’s Red Hour Films.
Gatewood and Becker developed the screenplay with Weinstock. The screenwriting duo met while performing comedy in New York City, where they honed their brand of comedy that tackles modern feminist issues. They have several projects in development, all comedies with a social commentary bend.
Gatewood recurs as Stacey Beswick (a.k.a Ozone) on Netflix’s professional female wrestling comedy Glow, which is returning for a fourth and final season. She’s also directed episodes for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Just Add Magic and The Babysitters Club. Gatewood, who is repped by Gersh, Kaplan Perrone, and Granderson Des Rochers, directed the...

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s work on 2016’s hit “Sausage Party” resulted in one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing adult-targeted animated films. Now, the duo is teaming up to adapt the “Bubble” podcast into an age-appropriate animated movie with Sony Pictures Animation.
Variety reported that Sony Pictures Animation is developing the project, based on the 2018 podcast, with Point Grey and Matt Tolmach (“Jumanji: The Next Level”) producing.
Kyle Hunter, Ariel Shaffir, James Weaver, and David Manpearl are attached as executive producers, while podcast production company Maximum Fun and Jordan Morris, who created the “Bubble” podcast, are attached as co-executive producers. Morris will also write the script, according to Variety. Hunter, Shaffir, Tolmach, and Point Grey previously worked together on Hulu’s “Future Man” comedy series.
Sources close to production confirmed Variety’s report with IndieWire.
Rogen and Goldberg’s upcoming adaptation will mark their second venture into animated adult projects.

Sausage Party producers and Point Grey principals Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have reteamed with Sony and producer Matt Tolmach (who worked with them on Hulu’s Future Man series) to develop an adult animated film based on the 2018 podcast, Bubble, which was created by Jordan Morris.
Morris will adapt the screenplay. The 10-episode scripted comedy series hails from Maximum Fun. It centered around an unlikely group of monster killers, brought together by an Uber-like app called Huntr, that struggle to make ends meet and find love in a nightmarish version of the gig economy.

The television space is more crowded than ever, and we may have our most surprising addition to the ever-expanding landscape: A brewery.
Yes, you read that correctly. Scotland-based craft brewery BrewDog, is launching its own streaming network, The BrewDog Network, that’ll cost $4.99 a month, or less than a pint of beer.
The network will be lead by James Watt and Martin Dickie, the brewery’s co-founders. Chris Burke and Jared Cotton, founders of Emmy-winning production company Redtail Media, will serve as general manager and head of creative. Redtail Media produced the duo’s “BrewDogs” TV series that aired on the now-defunct Esquire Network for three seasons between 2013 and 2015.

The U.S. is awash in subscription streaming networks, with more than 200 of them now jockeying for viewers. But the BrewDog Network, a $5-a-month service launching today, introduces a bit of a new wrinkle.

Rob Riggle doesn't think to fondly of web series. He and several other noted Hollywood comedians recently released a video through Conan's TeamCoco YouTube channel in support of their cause, Real Actors Against Web Videos. "In a way it's good that people can go out there and make their own thing," says former SNL actor Horatio Sanz in the mock PSA, "But also, most people are s**t." If you look back it really was inevitable that someone was going to take the title "The Hunger Games" literally, and lo and behold here it is.
Yahoo! is getting into the parody business with a weekly comedy series called "SketchY" (The "Y" is the Yahoo! "Y") and they've done a virtual shot-for-shot remake of the "Hunger Games" trailer with a tasty twist: it's an eating contest… to the death!
Lest you think that idea sub-mad Magazine juvenile, "Hungry Games" is actually a pretty clever parody of some of the more ludicrous aspects of the franchise-to-be, including the ridiculousness of Wes Bentley's curlicue beard and Elizabeth Banks' Dr. Seuss-like Effie Trinket.

"Life Unexpected" and "Roswell" star Shiri Appleby stars in the latest web series from Alloy Entertainment, the folks behind "Gossip Girl" and "Pretty Little Liars." Entertainment Weekly reports that "The Vampire Diaries" dearly departed Taylor Kinney will star alongside Appleby, as will "Pretty Little Liars" creepy cop Bryce Johnson. Mircea Monroe of "Episodes" and Alison Becker of "Parks & Recreation" will also co-star.

VH1 is a very giving network, but perhaps no other gift of theirs is greater than the gift of the Best Cruise Ever, a 5 day journey to Mexico where one finds themselves on board an ocean liner crammed with musicians and bliss. Last year, we took you on a journey of all the things we learned on the Best Cruise Ever. "The Sing-Off" on NBC
"Skating with the Stars" on ABC
"WWE: Raw" on USA
8:30pm: "Monday Night Football: Baltimore...
