Humanitas Prize nominee, Kellie R. Griffin, is a Howard University graduate, holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Social Work. Kellie, a Philadelphia native and a former Washington, D.C. foster care social worker, took a leap of faith, moved to the west coast, and changed careers to follow a more creative path in entertainment, which now spans 23 years.
Early in her career, Kellie worked on a number of films, stage plays, and television shows, including serving as Head Writer and Producer on Tyler Perry's "House of Payne," running two writers' rooms in both Atlanta and Los Angeles, simultaneously, for over 100 episodes, with an insane schedule of shooting three (3) episodes per week. Yes, you read that right.
Kellie has also served as Co-Executive Producer on Netflix's "Fuller House," as well as Consulting Producer on NBC's "Crowded," and she Created BET's "Reed Between the Lines," which premiered to 3.3 million viewers and starred Tracee Ellis Ross and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
More recently, Kellie has been working in the world of animation, writing on a number shows, including Emmy nominated "Karma's World," a musical children's series for Netflix created by rapper/actor Ludacris, plus Nickelodeon's "The Loud House," and two preschool series for Spin Master Entertainment, "Rubble & Crew" and "Vida the Vet."
Currently, Kellie is in development on several projects: an untitled hybrid animation/live action series with Rainshine Global, Inc. ("Young Captain Nemo); an untitled live action feature with Josephson Entertainment ("Disenchanted"), and an untitled live action sitcom with A Bird and A Bear Entertainment/Cedric the Entertainer ("The Soul Man").
Somewhere in between all of that and co-parenting a tween and a teen, both with high-functioning autism, Kellie is writing a few passion projects, including a sitcom loosely based on her life, and remakes of two popular movies.
Stay tuned. There's definitely A LOT more to come...
