When Peter Alexander opens Saturday’s broadcast of “Today,” he will find himself opposite a new host — and a potential sparring partner.
Laura Jarrett, a relatively new arrival to NBC News, is taking over as his co-anchor on the weekend edition of the long-running morning program now that Kristen Welker is moving to host “Meet The Press.” As Alexander discovered during a rehearsal session on Thursday, he will have to be prepared.

Gayle King and Vlad Duthiers tested positive for Covid, forcing CBS Mornings to take a series of steps as a precaution.
At 7:30 Am, co-anchor Tony Dokoupil went to King, who was appearing from inside a van outside the studio.
“I never expected to be sitting in a van,” she said. “I came, ready to go to work. There was an exposure. I have had a test, and now we are waiting for the results of my test. So rather than take a chance and hurt anyone else, or somebody else would be affected, I am down in my van. Rather than isolating in her office, King said that she wanted to appear on the show to present her interview with the parents of Bakari Henderson. She said that she was “stunned” by the positive test, given that she has routinely tested negative.
Dokoupil later said that that King and Duthiers had tested positive.

CBS News is rebranding its streaming channels as CBS News Streaming Network, with a new slate of programming featuring more of the network’s broadcast talent, including a Person to Person series hosted by Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King tapped to anchor the first of new CBS Reports documentary projects.
Other shows include new weekly series featuring others from the CBS Mornings franchise, including Tony Dokoupil, Tracy Smith, Lee Cowan, Michelle Miller, Dana Jacobson and Jeff Glor, as well Steve Hartman and Ben Tracy. Live reports will come from a new 4,000-square-foot studio at the CBS Broadcast Center, with heavy use of LEDs and touchscreen monitors. There also will be new graphics and music for the line up.
Neeraj Khemlani and Wendy McMahon last year were named presidents and co-heads of a combined CBS News and Stations, and they have made a number of changes to bolster streaming across the divisions.

When Nate Burleson joins Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil as co-host of CBS’s morning show next month, the program will have a new look, theme and name: CBS Mornings.
The changes, to launch on Sept. 7, will connect all of the morning shows together with some of the elements of its long running CBS Sunday Morning, which has long topped its time period on weekends, including the use of the sun logo and trumpet music, Gottfried Reiche’s Abblasen.
The first hour of the weekday broadcast will still be devoted to hard news and conversation, while the second hour will feature expanded feature reporting, a central part of the Sunday show, as well as live interviews, arts and culture pieces from Anthony Mason, who recently was co-host, and Vlad Duthiers with the What to Watch segment.
In addition to Burleson’s debut, CBS Mornings will broadcast from a new Times Square studio,...

CBS News wants to spread some of its venerable newsmagazine “Sunday Morning” to other days of the week.
Starting September 7, the entire CBS morning schedule will be treated as a larger franchise, with weekdays and Saturdays featuring some of the in-depth and longform features for which the Sunday show — a TV-news institution — is best known.
The weekday program, which features Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and new co-host Nate Burleson, will be retitled “CBS Mornings,” and will be part of a lineup that includes “CBS Saturday Morning” and “CBS Sunday Morning.” Once known as “CBS This Morning,” the show will continue to highlight the breaking news of the day and the interactions of its hosts, but place new emphasis on longform stories in its second hour. The Saturday and Sunday shows, hosted by Jeff Glor, Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller and by Jane Pauley, respectively, will continue with the formats to which their viewers are accustomed.

This Saturday-morning news show is supposed to look like the ones that precede it Monday through Friday. It doesn’t.
Co-anchor Jeff Glor isn’t wearing a tie and his colleagues, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, often join him in a weekend outing that seems cut from different cloth than the weekday version to which it is tied. Brian Applegate, executive producer of CBS This Morning: Saturday,” sees no need to stitch everything together.
“What I really want to do is continue down the path of identifying this show as a unique broadcast that is unlike anything else at CBS News,’ says Applegate, in a recent interview. After years of being promoted lockstep on social media with the weekday program, he says, CBS News is set to launch a distinct social campaign for its Saturday effort.

In all things, Kobe Bryant was nothing if not exacting. He was driven, demanding and relentless in pursuit of greatness.
His tragic death in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26 at the age of 41, an accident that also took his 13-year-old daughter and seven others, means that the entertainment industry will never know what the legendary basketball player might have accomplished in the second chapter of his career.
With trademark focus, Bryant was clear about where he wanted to direct his energy after retiring from the NBA in April 2016 following 20 storied seasons and five NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bryant wanted to “impact lives through storytelling,” as he told CBS News’ Dana Jacobson in a podcast interview last November. “Nothing in the world happens without story.”
“Content to Kobe was a means to an end,” says filmmaker Gotham Chopra, who worked with Bryant on the 2015 Showtime documentary “Kobe Bryant’s Muse.

Jeff Glor is moving to morning news from evening news at CBS.
CBS News said Thursday that Glor, recently moved off a stint of “CBS Evening News,” would take up duties as co-host of the Saturday edition of “CBS This Morning” and also serve as a special correspondent.
He will start the new morning assignment on June 22, and will join co-hosts Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller.
The new duties keep Glor at CBS News in a time of transition. The anchor, who had called CBS News home for 12 years, was placed at “Evening News” under different management , and while his tenure was well received, the newscast fell further behind its NBC and ABC rivals. New CBS News President Susan Zirinsky has been in the midst of orchestrating a talent overhaul at the news division in an effort to make up ratings ground.

What’s the next best thing to live-streaming actual 2018 Ncaa March Madness Final Four games? For Twitter, it’s hosting a live video and chat hub with video commentary and real-time tweets for hoops fans to follow during the men’s college basketball championship.
Twitter, in partnership with Turner Sports, the Ncaa and CBS Sports, on Saturday is tipping off the 2018 Ncaa March Madness Men’s Final Four weekend with the launch of Final Four Watch Parties. The “live social-viewing experience” on Twitter, comprising analyst commentary, reactions and highlights from the games, will be produced by Turner Sports from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Former Espn anchor Dana Jacobson was inspired by the conclusion of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse trial to write candidly about her own experience as a victim of child molestation. Jacobson took to her blog on Monday to discuss her road to recovery.
"Like the young men who bravely took the stand in the Sandusky trial, I was molested as a child. That's still not easy for me to say, let alone write and share publicly, but if we've learned anything from the Sandusky scandal it's that the time for silence is over," she writes.
Jacobson, best known for anchoring "SportsCenter" and "Cold Pizza," left Espn when her contract expired in April. Now, she's making the news for revealing that when she was young, her male babysitter sexually abused her twice. She didn't acknowledge the abuse until she was in her 20s.
"It was inappropriate touching, fondling of genitalia.
