Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from the Season 20 finale of Bravo’s “Top Chef.”
Buddha Lo became the first ever “Top Chef: World All-Stars” winner Thursday, beating out his finale competition Sara Bradley and Gabri Rodriguez in the Paris-set “Top Chef” Season 20 finale.
But Lo’s win was historic beyond that special 20th anniversary season achievement, as he became the first “Top Chef” contestant to ever win two seasons back to back, having claimed victory in Season 19, “Top Chef: Houston.”
Adding another layer of prestige, Lo has the honor of being the final contestant to be declared winner by Padma Lakshmi before she exits the cooking competition after 19 seasons as host.
Needless to say, Lo had much to discuss following the finale, and Variety caught up with him the morning after the finale to break down his big win, saying goodbye to Lakshmi and why he “definitely” couldn’t...

Spoiler Alert: The 20th season of Top Chef is in the books, marking the first time the show has been filmed entirely abroad. Tonight’s finale was held in Paris after a season spent entirely in London. The milestone 20th season featured 16 of the greatest competitors from Top Chef iterations around the globe facing off.
But the joy of tonight’s winner was also tempered by the news that this is the last season to feature Padma Lakshmi as host.
”A lot of us grew up on this show,” Lakshmi said as the winner was toasted. “It’s been a long ride. 20 Seasons is quite an accomplishment.” She raised her champagne glass and added, “Thank you very much.”

[Warning: The below contains major spoilers for Bravo’s Top Chef: World All-Stars finale.] Bravo’s Top Chef served authentic international flavor for its milestone season 20 with Top Chef World All-Stars. In all, 16 of the top winners and finalists from numerous global versions of the show were welcomed to London. The pressure cooker of Quickfires and elimination challenges across the region led to a grand finale in Paris. It was there Buddha Lo (season 19 Bravo’s Top Chef: Houston winner), Sara Bradley (season 16 Bravo’s Top Chef: Kentucky finalist), and Gabri Rodriguez (season 2 Top Chef: Mexico winner) were tasked to cook a progressive four-course meal. They not only had to impress Padma Lakshmi, head judge Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons but guest judge Hélène Darroze and a table full of other culinary heavyweights. After deliberation, Lo, who had recently eliminated Ali Ghzawi as his sous-chef, was named the first Top Chef World All-Star. He won over the expert ...

She was down but not out. “Top Chef: World All-Stars” contestant Sara Bradley was eliminated from the competition in “Battle of the Wellingtons,” quite possibly the most difficult challenge of the season. But she wasn’t gone for long. In a two-part “Last Chance Kitchen” finale even she defeated Amar Santana and then Charbel Hayek to earn back her spot in the main competition. Can she complete her comeback by winning the whole competition?

It wouldn’t be unprecedented. Kristen Kish (season 10), Brooke Williamson (season 14), and Joseph Flamm (season 15) had to pack their knives and go in their respective seasons, battled back from “Lck,” and ultimately prevailed. That’s not a bad track record when you consider that “Lck” has only been around since season nine. And consider the rest of Bradley’s track record.

Season 20 of “Top Chef” has been a roller coaster for Gabri Rodriguez, with arguably more downs than ups. The “Top Chef Mexico” champion has struggled with consistency, but he has escaped culinary demise so many times his fellow contestants have taken to calling him “El Gato.” Can he still win the whole season, though? He made the finale, so he’s only one meal away from claiming the first ever “World All-Stars” championship.
No one in the competition, including those who have already packed their knives and gone, has been on the bottom more often than Rodriguez in Elimination Challenges. It started in the very first challenge of the season, “London Calling,” when his charred dish left a burnt taste in the mouth and he forgot to add his chicken emulsion entirely. He struggled again in the “Spurred Lines” challenge with his friends and teammates Begoña Rodrigo and Luciana Berry; after losing two rounds,...

“Of the top four, I’m the only one who didn’t win my season,” notes Sara at the start of “Top Chef: World All-Stars” episode 13, “Champions in Paris.” “They probably think I don’t cook as refined as them, but that’s my journey is realizing my self-worth.” All of the final four chefs set foot in France to prove something to themselves and the judges. So which of them advanced to the grand finale, and who had to pack their knives and go in this penultimate episode, “Champions in Paris”? Was it Ali Al Ghzawi (Middle East and North Africa), Sara Bradley (Kentucky), Buddha Lo (Houston), or Gabriel Rodriguez (Mexico)?

“Top Chef: World All-Stars” is down to its final four: Ali Al Ghzawi (Middle East and North Africa), Buddha Lo (Houston), Tom Goetter (Germany), and Gabriel Rodriguez (Mexico). But really it’s the final five, as Tom reminds Gabri at the start of episode 12, “Goodbye, London.” That’s because last week marked the finale of “Last Chance Kitchen,” which means one eliminated chef is coming back into the competition. But who will it be? Tom and Gabri speculate about Dale MacKay and Nicole Gomes, but fans who have kept up with “Lck” know that it’s really between last week‘s ousted chef Sara Bradley and “Street Food Fight‘s” eliminated contestant Charbel Hayek. So who is it?

By the time the ninth Wellington is served, an audible sigh of relief emerges from the six remaining Top Chef: World All-Stars contestants. The chefs, divided into three teams for the purpose of today’s elimination challenge, look exhausted, and deservedly so. Each team has just prepped, cooked, and delivered three different Wellington dishes — a fish Wellington, a meat Wellington, and a dessert Wellington — which require an incredible amount of technical precision, particularly when serving them to four judges and 20 diners.

“I’m sad, but I’m one of the seven chefs left and I’m here to win. With money I can make a culinary school in Africa. It’s not for me to buy lip gloss. No, I really want to help my people,” says Victoire at the start of “Top Chef: World All-Stars” episode 10, “Thali Time.” She just had to say goodbye to her friend Nicole Gomes at the end of “Restaurant Wars” in one of the season’s most emotional ousters. So the stakes are as high as ever.

Everyone starts “Top Chef: World All-Stars” episode nine, “Restaurant Wars,” with a bit of shellshock. They just said goodbye to Charbel Hayek, who won the “London Calling” challenge at the start of the season with a risky onion dish and had never been at the bottom in an Elimination Challenge but then all of a sudden was sent home in “Street Food Fight.” They raise a glass to “onion boy,” who joins “potato girl” Sylwia Stachyra on this season’s boot list.

“Restaurant Wars” is tonight on “Top Chef: World All-Stars,” and that always-grueling battle could yield yet another unexpected outcome. It comes one week after Charbel Hayek was shockingly sent home in his first time at the bottom, and one year after Jackson Kalb was eliminated in “Restaurant Wars” in his first time at the bottom. What could happen this time?
Hayek’s elimination surprised almost all fans who made their predictions here in our predictions center. Only a single user correctly predicted his ouster, and he’d actually just risen to the top of our odds for who would win the entire season. That was the very first time Hayek got low marks from the judges in an Elimination Challenge. Before that he won the “London Calling” season premiere challenge and finished near the top three times after that.

‘Top Chef’ 20 episode 8 recap: ‘Street Food Fight’ led to a ‘Fast and Furious’ Elimination Challenge
“When I make a bad dish, I know that it’s bad,” says Victoire, lamenting her disappointing cassava cannoli from “Top Chef: World All Stars” episode seven, “Hands Off.” Luckily for her it wasn’t the worst dish of the challenge. That was Dale MacKay‘s, so he was eliminated just one episode after returning to the competition from “Last Chance Kitchen.” So what happened in episode eight, “Street Food Fight,” when the competition suddenly got a lot more demanding — and a lot faster?

Last week’s episode of “Top Chef: World All-Stars,” “Top Chef is No Picnic,” started with 10 contestants, and it ended with … 10 contestants. But it wasn’t the same 10. “Top Chef Canada” alum Dale MacKay returned to the competition after fighting his way back through “Last Chance Kitchen,” and then “Top Chef Poland’s” Sylwia Stachyra was eliminated after a sandwich cookoff against Tom Goetter. We’re almost halfway through “Top Chef: World All-Stars,” so we’re getting a better and better idea of how the competition is shaping up. Some chefs have been all over the map, and some were eliminated suddenly after earlier rock-star culinary performances — pour one out for Begoña Rodrigo — but there are four who have never once landed at the bottom in an Elimination Challenge. Will one of them be the eventual winner?
The first lucky chef is Charbel Hayek. The “Top Chef Middle East and North Africa” alum actually won the very first challenge of the season, “London Calling.” He has been safe in every challenge since, and he aced the team battles in “Spurred Lines” and “Top Chef is No Picnic.”

The eliminated chefs from Bravo’s Top Chef: World All Stars have been battling it out in Last Chance Kitchen to return to the competition. However, it ends next week during episode six when one officially re-enters.
Luciana Berry was eliminated from ‘Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen’
Top Chef Spain Season 1 winner Begoña Rodrigo’s “leftover” stew sent her to Last Chance Kitchen to battle it out with Brasil Season 2 champ Luciana Berry and Canada Season 1 winner Dale MacKay for a final opportunity to return to the competition.
The chefs were tasked with creating a three-course meal, including a crunchy, creamy, and chewy dish. Begoña immediately claimed the chewy one, leaving Luciana with crunchy and Dale with creamy. Unknowingly, the Spain and Brasil winners chose to make squab, but Begoña’s dish stood out as the favorite as her sauce impressed judge Tom Colicchio.

Last week’s “Spurred Lines” team challenge on “Top Chef” was a tough one, ending with three friends having to face each other in a cookoff to decide the elimination. Luciana Berry from “Top Chef Brazil” was the unlucky contestant who ultimately had to pack her knives and go just one week after winning the “Cheeky Pints and Pub Bites” challenge. This game can be very unforgiving. So what happened in episode five, “Holiday Vacation”? Read on to find out.

For Top Chef Season 20, contestants who competed in international versions of the Bravo cooking competition show, including many who won or finished in the finals, returned for World All-Stars. By episode 3, four chefs have been eliminated from the main competition. However, they can win their way back into the game by competing in Last Chance Kitchen. Two chefs have already been officially eliminated.
Samuel Albert is the first officially eliminated from ‘Top Chef: World All-Stars’
Top Chef: France winner Samuel Albert was the first eliminated when he failed to deliver in the vegetable-forward dish challenge. He faced Top Chef: Portland finalist Dawn Burrell in the first episode of Last Chance Kitchen as her crispy rice cut her from the main competition.
The two were tasked with recreating their former winning dishes using the same protein in 30 minutes. Sam decided to incorporate his Japanese French fusion into the salmon-based dish, but the time constraint concerned him.

The chefs discuss the cultural experience they’re sharing, and Stachyra addresses the uncertainty in the world. “I’m from the city which is 80 kilometers from Ukraine,” she explains. “When the war started we cooked the food, we gave our furniture, our clothes, everything we had … I’m happy that I had the family who supported me. I always have a place to come back. This is amazing...

British pubs and the famous Harrods food hall served as inspiration for Bravo’s new season of “Top Chef.”
Award-winning production designer James Pearse Connelly, who has designed the show’s set for nearly a decade, wanted to capture the essence of British culture for his ninth kitchen. Says Connelly, “It was about how to bring London into the show with all-star chefs from around the world.”
Connelly started by looking at how pubs were designed. He says, “I started with wood paneling and that mystery, intimacy, intrigue and sparkle of what a British pub is.” Additionally, he brought in diamond pane glass and paid homage to London’s famous Big Ben with round, clock tower-inspired doors.
With former contestants Dawn Burrell, Buddha Lo, Sara Bradley and Amar Santana all competing, Connelly says he wanted to draw on that top-tier quality they were bringing to the show. He says, “There...
